If only I fit one of these stereotypes I wouldn't have to flail about on the internet looking for kindred spirits.

Anyway, Tracer Hand should be a cowboy since he rides horses, right?

Sean (Sean), Sunday, 29 December 2002 17:39 (twenty-three years ago)

Maybe with a bit of a makeover anthony easton could do construction worker?

My ex once told me I'd look hot in a cop's uniform. I really wonder where he was coming from with that.

Just as a reminder of what they all look like ......

yep tracer as the cowboy, anthony as the cop, h anley as the construction worker, sean you are the army guy, ned can be the indian and i am lost for the biker. maybe um........momus?
hahaha, since i have no idea what anyone looks like apart from ned, these are obviously blind stabs in the dark.

I'm sure that's Mr Perry over there on the left, wearing the Officer And A Gentleman hat.

C J (C J), Sunday, 29 December 2002 17:59 (twenty-three years ago)

What's kind of interesting is that these guys were concieved and packaged by a svengali manager boy band-style. But how could these ludicrous (albeit completely accurate) gay stereotypes ever gotten off the drawing board as a real concept? Who would try out for such a band? I mean sure they ended up successful with hit records and all, but in the beginning how did this concept get sold? I mean how did middle America, erm, swallow this, erm, package?

Unlike say LIberace or Boy George, who were being themselves for the most part, these guys willingly played an act. Were any of them really gay?

Sean (Sean), Sunday, 29 December 2002 18:03 (twenty-three years ago)

One of the Village People lives in my neighborhood.

rosemary (rosemary), Sunday, 29 December 2002 18:04 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm pretty sure the Red Indian guy was gay..don't think the others were tho.

Yeah, I never quite got how they seem to have slipped by ppl for a while, "Can't Stop the Music" is over the top in throwing out blatant gay references. (incidentally the film was directed by Nancy Walker, of the MTM show and the Bounty ads)

More surprising is the use of "In the Navy" BY the US Navy as a marketing tool, for ads etc with the participation of the Village People. Were ppl really that oblivious?

H (Heruy), Sunday, 29 December 2002 18:13 (twenty-three years ago)

Nice one, H. btw, I saw "Can't Stop the Music", and it had far less gay references than one would expect (I thought). It's mind-numbingly bad, and essential viewing.

Sean (Sean), Sunday, 29 December 2002 18:19 (twenty-three years ago)

essential viewing indeed. showed that for a film series i ran in college in appl were howling throughout. btw, just tried you on AIM but couldn't get thru. send a msg "H in Addis"

H (Heruy), Sunday, 29 December 2002 18:22 (twenty-three years ago)

I think the YMCA tried to sue them for besmirching their name, yet went on to use the song to advertise their hostels. Hmm.

The Construction Worker guy was definitely straight. In fact I think they all were apart from the Red Indian, as H said above. (Are you H from Steps, btw??)

C J (C J), Sunday, 29 December 2002 18:22 (twenty-three years ago)

Which one lives near you, Rosemary???

C J (C J), Sunday, 29 December 2002 18:23 (twenty-three years ago)

nope, not H from Steps. was actually asked that on another thread recently.

H (Heruy), Sunday, 29 December 2002 18:27 (twenty-three years ago)

And H I'm IMing you with no response as well; perhaps the network is f*cked up. Anyway, wussup? (I can't believe I just typed it like that)

Sean (Sean), Sunday, 29 December 2002 18:29 (twenty-three years ago)

I think the Indian.

rosemary (rosemary), Sunday, 29 December 2002 19:56 (twenty-three years ago)

yes, the Indian was the only one who was gay. and i know what town he lives in (which i won't reveal unless rosemary doesn't mind?)

Tad (llamasfur), Sunday, 29 December 2002 21:47 (twenty-three years ago)

oh yeah, the Indian would be either Momus or Chaki. (not that either one is gay, but they are the most "Indian"-esque of the ILxor crew IMHO).

Tad (llamasfur), Sunday, 29 December 2002 21:49 (twenty-three years ago)

Martin = Construction Worker (since there's no Urban Fisherman)

C J (C J), Sunday, 29 December 2002 21:51 (twenty-three years ago)

No no, I don't resemble any of them, but since I commonly wear black jeans, t-shirt and biker-style leather jacket, there is only one that I can portray.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Monday, 30 December 2002 00:36 (twenty-three years ago)

Well, I did some research, and now it seems the Indian lives in Richmond!

rosemary (rosemary), Monday, 30 December 2002 02:01 (twenty-three years ago)

Surrey??

C J (C J), Monday, 30 December 2002 11:11 (twenty-three years ago)

HA, I was going to put a "note to our British readers, that's Richmond, Virginia" line in my last post.

rosemary (rosemary), Monday, 30 December 2002 15:03 (twenty-three years ago)
