they were awful, yelling and screaming about killing fags, talking about "how they can suck my cock and then suck my baseball bats, how gods hates fags. i told them (all four) to fuck off. did i do the right thing

anthony easton (anthony), Tuesday, 31 December 2002 04:13 (twenty-three years ago)

Absolutely. They're going to be very embarrassed if they A) go to a halfway-liberal college/university; or B) come out in four years when they think back on this.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 31 December 2002 04:15 (twenty-three years ago)

anthony you did the right thing. don't boubt yourself for even one second.

Aaron Grossman (aajjgg), Tuesday, 31 December 2002 04:17 (twenty-three years ago)

Don't doubt yourself, either. (HAHAHAHA I AM AN ASS)

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 31 December 2002 04:19 (twenty-three years ago)

no i am a bad typist.

Aaron Grossman (aajjgg), Tuesday, 31 December 2002 04:21 (twenty-three years ago)

Anthony, you should have kicked their ass in the skyline car to boot.
This was VIA Rail right?

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Tuesday, 31 December 2002 05:37 (twenty-three years ago)

ant, you're lucky they didn't beat you. be careful around ignorant fucks.

That Girl (thatgirl), Tuesday, 31 December 2002 06:01 (twenty-three years ago)

erik, Tuesday, 31 December 2002 09:45 (twenty-three years ago)

That was very brave. Possibly foolhardy. But good on you.

Mark C (Mark C), Tuesday, 31 December 2002 11:26 (twenty-three years ago)

reminds me of when i were a lad, i never said or thought such things myself but its just the kind of thing (not that hatefully anyway) i'd hear from my peers now and then...think we'll ever get to the stage where kids just dont say things like that anymore? does it just come from their parents/siblings/friends' parents influence? when exactly do you get the idea into your head that homosexuality is 'wrong' and something to treat with disgust and hatred? i think by the time i read the bits in the Bible where it effectively says 'dont do that, God hates that' i'd already figured it was not something to feel threatened by or take offence to really....look forward to the time where its just not so obssessed about by people, for good or bad

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 31 December 2002 12:05 (twenty-three years ago)

at the moment it seems as if you could say such stupid things again openly in society again. in the six years i live here it sudenly happens that i get "faggot" yelled at on the streets.

prediction 2003: holland will slowly loose its image of most tolerant and open society in the world.

erik, Tuesday, 31 December 2002 12:14 (twenty-three years ago)

"think we'll ever get to the stage where kids just dont say things like that anymore?"

No, sadly. I think most of my friends knew from an early age that there is nothing wrong with homosexuality, but at the age of 13 none of us would have felt comfortable saying at. Chances are, if you say it's ok to be gay, at that age, you are going to get called "gay" a lot. And no-one wants the hassle when they're in their early teens. Hopefully, these kids will grow out of it.

weasel diesel (K1l14n), Tuesday, 31 December 2002 13:05 (twenty-three years ago)

A little bit foolhardy, in retrospect, but I think it's good that you did it, Anthony.

There were some teenage boys on the bus the other night in dublin, talking about getting pleasure out of rape and I really wanted to say something, but I didn't think I'd be able to remain calm enough to get my point across without screaming like a loon and teaching them nothing.

nickie (nickie), Tuesday, 31 December 2002 14:31 (twenty-three years ago)

i suppose part of it is just sheer attention-seeking, they want to be heard but dont care what it is they're saying in order to get heard....kinda like Craig Nicholls, heh

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 31 December 2002 14:54 (twenty-three years ago)

Morally right, tactically risky, but you saw the situation so I don't know how risky. Congratulations on taking the stand.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Tuesday, 31 December 2002 18:12 (twenty-three years ago)

Ismael Klata, Sunday, 7 June 2009 12:40 (seventeen years ago)

ice cr?m, Sunday, 7 June 2009 12:41 (seventeen years ago)

four months pass...

3 late teens/early 20s in front of my having wide-ranging discussion on topics including sufjan Stevens, the people they know in this months vice, their suicide attempts, what drugs they're on, gay dating habits ("twinks never, ever date other twinks"), the time they met "the guy who started pitchfork," the book the time trvellers wife ("its Roberts favorite book, and he's, like, a poet"), photography

Yah dude those were trolls. Even the most loathsome h-word doesn't hit all those bases that fast.

A+ job, btw.

ENERGY FOOD (en i see kay), Saturday, 10 October 2009 23:54 (sixteen years ago)

eh it took them about 40 minutes to cover all of those bases--some of the other topics incl. the "farm party" they were going to, how pretty one girl thought the other girl was, "dykes"--and this was the real bingo moment for me--BARD, NYU AND SARAH LAWRENCE (and how expensive they are)

fleetwood (max), Sunday, 11 October 2009 00:02 (sixteen years ago)

"Yes, dear, little Timmy's school is rather expensive, but don't you think it's worth it to get his douchebag ass out of the house?"

ian, Sunday, 11 October 2009 00:08 (sixteen years ago)

has anyone created the musical genre 'douchebag house' yet?

tehresa, Sunday, 11 October 2009 01:38 (sixteen years ago)

LYSOL HOOS (gbx), Sunday, 11 October 2009 03:16 (sixteen years ago)

The other night on the tram these 2 loud gypsy teen males got on the tram and sat behind me and after a couple minutes of annoying the shit out of me with their volume they just out of nowhere started singing (much more quietly) some very czech-ified a capella medley of old Jackson 5 songs that lasted for like 10 minutes.
As they were getting off at their stop the one with peach fuzz on his upper lip paused and looked around the tram and pumped his fist and yelled "Michael Jackson Forever!"
It made my night.

Fetchboy, Sunday, 11 October 2009 05:50 (sixteen years ago)
