Watching all of those "i love 19......" i have seen an awful lot of screaming youth and scouts on rollercoasters. Who has been on the telly in a similar situation. I was on a program on cannabis - in the background at the annual london cannabis march.

james (james), Tuesday, 31 December 2002 13:45 (twenty-three years ago)

I've been on Canadian digital TV as a music expert type.

mark p (Mark P), Tuesday, 31 December 2002 14:03 (twenty-three years ago)

i'm on tv every day because i'm one of those people that works/cries/dies slowly in the studio behind the presenters at a news station - not for much longer though - hurrah!

Otherwise, the back of my head is visible on a Newman and Baddiel in Pieces video.

nickie (nickie), Tuesday, 31 December 2002 14:17 (twenty-three years ago)

i was on an edition of Horizon on BB2 in 1975 as an ickle baby, i took part in some sort of behavioural science experiment, still got the letters from the producer somewhere.

leigh (leigh), Tuesday, 31 December 2002 14:20 (twenty-three years ago)

Of course Tom E. rules this thread!

mark p (Mark P), Tuesday, 31 December 2002 14:26 (twenty-three years ago)

oops, BBC2 rather than Big Brother 2, doh!

leigh (leigh), Tuesday, 31 December 2002 14:46 (twenty-three years ago)

I've been on A&E for the past four years as part of the chorus in the Boston Pops' "Holiday at Pops" television program. I've also ended up in a fair amount of the promo material for it (a quarter of the shots of the chorus feature me).

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 31 December 2002 14:51 (twenty-three years ago)

i've been on Danish radio :)

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 31 December 2002 14:52 (twenty-three years ago)

Heh. Recently: occasional 'flashes' (hur hur) on C4 documentary on St Hilda's College. Couple of years ago: saying "frottage" (as [note: correct] answer to question on 'University Challenge'); Ages ago: back of head in audience on 'Fist of Fun'.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Tuesday, 31 December 2002 14:58 (twenty-three years ago)

You have a TV show called "Fist of Fun"????????

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 31 December 2002 15:02 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh yes. Not anymore, and it's not what you think it is. Comedy of a fairly good and perverse nature, one occasional character called Kurious Oranj after tha Fall song. One of Lee & Herring (the comedy duo involved) writes/performs plays now, the other is a music journalist, I think. Make of it what you will.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Tuesday, 31 December 2002 15:05 (twenty-three years ago)

My freind was on Road Rules.

Mike Hanle y (mike), Tuesday, 31 December 2002 15:08 (twenty-three years ago)

My school seemed vaguely popular with the local news crews (ie they came twice in fiave years). They were the first local school to ban beef re:BSE and I think I got in the background in the canteen for 2 seconds.

Also, if you live in the Manchester and Stockport area, you can see my name in the credits for this term's episodes of Channel M's Gloves Off, which you don't even need cable/satellite to get.

Graham (graham), Tuesday, 31 December 2002 15:16 (twenty-three years ago)

I've been on songs of praise. Although not recently, thank God. But not by the medium of song, obviously.

SittingPretty, Tuesday, 31 December 2002 15:19 (twenty-three years ago)

I loved Fist of Fun! I sent in some oven-shrunk crisp packets for their gallery, which Lee and Herring to say they would have used if they were doing another series. If only...

nickie (nickie), Tuesday, 31 December 2002 15:20 (twenty-three years ago)

Of course, I meant:

...wrote back to say that they would have used them if they were doing another series.

nickie (nickie), Tuesday, 31 December 2002 15:21 (twenty-three years ago)

I was on BBC Choice on Liquid News talking about the Newcastle Love Parade being cancelled (live in the studio, really frightening, but only for five minutes), I was on BBC2 talking about the impact of Asian influences on chill out culture and Tony Wilson (!) interviewed me by studio link up for Granada when Cream closed.

I have made an arse of myself every time, but not as bad as accidentally calling Stu*rt Mac*nnie and Simon M*yo 'old' on Radio Five. There was tense laughter. Also having nothing to say about the Moulin Rouge soundtrack because they hadn't sent it to me and it wasn't available in the shops, but not saying this, so as not to embarass them on air. So I looked (sounded) like an idiot instead.

Anna (Anna), Tuesday, 31 December 2002 15:21 (twenty-three years ago)

Fist Of Fun was great but Kurious Oranj was later than that wasnt he...didnt he only appear in the Richard & Judy parody on Sunday mornings?

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 31 December 2002 15:33 (twenty-three years ago)

been on mtv canada in the background, in the local news disucssing how offensive i found the Canadian Blood Committes policy on anal sex, on a sort of kind of public acess/current affair show on the lds church.

anthony easton (anthony), Tuesday, 31 December 2002 15:37 (twenty-three years ago)

I must confess to being a meejah slag of the highest order.

Was on University Challenge (and got a letter in the Daily Telegraph salgging off my University for allowing people to read for a PhD in Detective Fiction. I was naturally only registered to qualify for said TV programme, appearing on which was a long held ambition). Also did 'Do I not know that', the extremely piss poor ITV Digital football quiz show. I knew they were doomed after seeing the appalling nature of their programming, their staff and their resources.

Loads of football related radio - best one was the Nicky Campbell Show on 5Live. Worst was BBC GMR where I was pissed when contacted by the station, and completely forgot, until my mum rang to say that I sounded quite 'vague' at which point I got a massive case of the fear.

Done News 24 and seen by 3 people, and several Sky sports news.tv.com extra (or whatever) and seen by 4 people. Did Breakfast News on BBC1 but at 6.30am (was due to be on at 8.30, but Kate Hoey had a hissy fit and pulled rank so I got the graveyard shift.) Bah.

Am available for all forms of spouting off at short notice.

Dave B (daveb), Tuesday, 31 December 2002 15:58 (twenty-three years ago)

i hosted two radioshows. and i have been on belgian and japanese telly several times. the last time on japanese television it was for a travel program, one of the most popular programs on tv!

nathalie (nathalie), Tuesday, 31 December 2002 16:00 (twenty-three years ago)

When I was younger, I was in a commercial for a mental and psychological hospital. I played a disturbed child, scribbling furiously on a piece of paper like a possessed angry autistic manimal-child. I wonder how much that says about me sometimes.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Tuesday, 31 December 2002 16:11 (twenty-three years ago)

CNN twice, Radio 2 once.

Tom (Groke), Tuesday, 31 December 2002 16:40 (twenty-three years ago)

regularly in the audience of Sky One's pisspoor "Games World" (computer games gameshow for teenagers). I was in charge of finding and administering the audience, so if we had a particularly small one/the kids didn't even turn up, I had to pad it out myself with as many of the non-essential studio staff I could find.

On the plus side, I got to play hours and hours of Gran Turismo on work time. And Bust-a-Move. Yum.

You can also hear my cheering the Wimbledon FC badge when it was in the picture round in University Challenge, where I had gone to support my mate on the Warwick team. I got a bollocking from the floor manager.

Mark C (Mark C), Tuesday, 31 December 2002 19:13 (twenty-three years ago)

I forgot: I am in the crowd of a DJ Visage video. I am also on the b-side of one of his singles in the form of crowd noise.

nickie (nickie), Tuesday, 31 December 2002 19:26 (twenty-three years ago)

Hah, I'm on one of the live "Satan" singles as crowd noise at an Orbital show in Boston.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 31 December 2002 19:38 (twenty-three years ago)

im on san fernando valley public access all the time.

chaki (chaki), Tuesday, 31 December 2002 19:56 (twenty-three years ago)

I was on CNN standing next to Jimmy Carter for approx. one-half second a few years ago

Curtis Stephens, Tuesday, 31 December 2002 20:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Nice try, Dan, but DJ Visage beats Orbital every time.

nickie (nickie), Tuesday, 31 December 2002 20:34 (twenty-three years ago)

My car was on the telly,I think it was a Men and Motors meets Max Power sort of thing.Arena Essex Raceway, couple of years ago.It was actually my other half that was filmed doing 'donuts' and smokin' out the tyres,I was in bed with the 'flu.Bollox.

(and to add to my misery, she actually won the donutting competition, bagging fifty quid and a trophy. And I had to buy new tyres.Double bollox.)

Eugene Speed (Eugene Speed), Tuesday, 31 December 2002 20:41 (twenty-three years ago)

when I was 12 I went on my friend Eric's uncle's early-AM kids' show, helping to prepare food. it wasn't terribly memorable.

M Matos (M Matos), Wednesday, 1 January 2003 01:40 (twenty-three years ago)

I was interviewed live on CBS News This Morning the day after the big 1993 Laguna Beach fire. I'm also in the video for INXS' "Devil Inside" (the one shot that pans quickly past a group of people standing in line - it was actually the line for the midnight showing of Rocky Horror at the Balboa Theater)

Chris Barrus (xibalba), Wednesday, 1 January 2003 08:16 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh yeah, I'm also briefly seen in the audience of the Penn And Teller "Phobophilia" TV special.

Chris Barrus (xibalba), Wednesday, 1 January 2003 08:16 (twenty-three years ago)

i was in footage from earthcore (an outdoor dance party) featured in a doco on australian dance music

minna (minna), Wednesday, 1 January 2003 08:42 (twenty-three years ago)

Been on the radio a couple of times being interviewed about comics, but not TV. My dad was on once - he was the local butcher when some fool was hanging small packets of meat in trees locally. Birds ate them. Local TV will cover any old rubbish. My dad had to say that no one was buying unusual quantities of meat, but since these packets were tiny, that approach was obviously a dead end.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Wednesday, 1 January 2003 21:23 (twenty-three years ago)

i can be seen all the time on the city tv special about madrid.
and i used to appear daily on rtve (spanish national television), but on the eastern regional programs. doing music and cinema reviews.

joan vich (joan vich), Thursday, 2 January 2003 14:09 (twenty-three years ago)

Madeleine's world cup sausages would own this thread, if they were on it.

Archel (Archel), Thursday, 2 January 2003 14:14 (twenty-three years ago)

I was on VH-1 once, talking about Skip Spence. I never actually saw the show in question, sadly.

Douglas (Douglas), Thursday, 2 January 2003 20:01 (twenty-three years ago)

I was interviewed on the local news about whether or not I could roll over my "box that rocks" Isuzu Trooper. I offered to try with the camerman riding shotgun, but he declined.

bnw (bnw), Thursday, 2 January 2003 20:11 (twenty-three years ago)

I've been on tv a few times, mostly just as audience member. And almost always when I needed a haircut really badly. Apparently it takes an embarrassing half-second appearance on national tv to convince me to get a haircut.

Chris P (Chris P), Friday, 3 January 2003 00:34 (twenty-three years ago)

I read a poem about Harold Washington on Chicago area network TV about 15 years ago. I was in 5th grade I think.

Amateurist (amateurist), Friday, 3 January 2003 00:36 (twenty-three years ago)

I was on a local public access kids' show when i was twelve. It was kind of like Zoom, but with no budget.

Jen (nstop), Friday, 3 January 2003 00:55 (twenty-three years ago)

I take as much care as I can to prevent people pointing cameras at me. So I've never knowingly been on the TV.

Tim (Tim), Friday, 3 January 2003 11:10 (twenty-three years ago)

My first television appearance was on the local kids' TV show in Minneapolis. As it was near my eighth birthday I had to stand up and give a wave but one of the presenters made a joke about my surname, so mid-wave I flipped him the bird.

A few years ago when the book I edited came out, I was asked to appear on some show done by Paul Ross and apparently this was good - people were up watching it and one of my richest friends was drooling with jealousy over my amazing motorcycle trousers. Then on News 24 doing the papers with a hangover. Then doing arts commentating on news 24 for friend who is now Newsnight arts reporter.

suzy (suzy), Friday, 3 January 2003 11:20 (twenty-three years ago)

i have been a talking head about online romance and the communications decency act (remember that??). the CDA stuff was on nightline, the romance stuff on the metro channel in the ny area.

one of my resolutions for '03 is 'get media training' so i too can pontificate on how much i loved atari, strawberry shortcake and hypercolor. also i MUST find the person who waxes carrot top's eyebrows -- those arches are amazing!

maura (maura), Friday, 3 January 2003 15:59 (twenty-three years ago)

i was on the spud goodman show.

yeah, exactly

ron (ron), Friday, 3 January 2003 16:07 (twenty-three years ago)

I had/hogged a whole segment on Captain Kangaroo in 1982. This was because my sister was shy and didn't say anything. It was part of a regular feature about kids who did interesting things or whose parents did interesting things. My dad at the time commanded a nuclear submarine. This was deemed interesting. ;-) You see me and my sister clambering around the submarine as my dad describes locations. My fundamental boredom in the segment isn't merely due to the endless retakes, but to the fact that I'd been all over the submarine many times beforehand, including a trip from San Diego to the Bay Area.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 3 January 2003 16:21 (twenty-three years ago)

"I just don't like all this sex on the telly. I mean, I KEEP FALLING OFF!"

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 3 January 2003 21:11 (twenty-three years ago)

Back in high school I was president of my school's "It's Academic" (a local college bowl-type game show) team, and appeared on the show.

j.lu (j.lu), Friday, 3 January 2003 23:15 (twenty-three years ago)

Who is DJ Visage? Crossfade to Grey? (sorry, I'm so sorry)

Ronan (Ronan), Saturday, 4 January 2003 17:14 (twenty-three years ago)

GMTV filmed a pop video at my school for some girl who was doing Music GCSE. I can be seen chopping up apples in time to the music, whilst she mimed and danced around the Home Ec classroom.

Celeste (Celeste), Saturday, 4 January 2003 20:39 (twenty-three years ago)

Dan = recovering Python fan. Like me.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 5 January 2003 22:06 (twenty-three years ago)

I have never been on the telly. Yes, I know that's surprising, given my occupation, but I've never been on the telly. I've been on the radio loads, and I hate it. I imagine that going on the telly would be like a combination of two of my most hated things - being photographed, and talking on the radio - and therefore I've avoided this. I was videotaped once, as a very young child of about nine or so, and was so apalled by my onscreen presence - not to mention my *accent* - that I have no desire to ever repeat the exerience.

Maybe I should make a thing out of it, and try to build some legends around my reclusiveness or something... certainly explains why we've never made any videos or anything.

kate, Sunday, 5 January 2003 22:26 (twenty-three years ago)

two of my most hated things - being photographed

A word of advice - no offence intended - but you should try not smiling in photographs. In the ones I've seen of you you always have this slightly nervous smile which probably reflects your discomfort with the process but doesn't work terribly well. Pouting is the way to go - ask Momus.

David (David), Sunday, 5 January 2003 22:48 (twenty-three years ago)

sigh. my entire life I've been told to "smile" in photos. It's the part I hate worst about having to be photographed. Possibly. People don't want photos of a cute, perky pop group where they are scowling. I look even worse when I'm not smiling. I should just become more reclusive and play up on my "thing" that i don't like being photographed, ban cameras from shows and the like. Yeah, that's it.

kate, Sunday, 5 January 2003 22:53 (twenty-three years ago)

Not full-on scowl - that would be inappropriate as you say. Try bright-eyed with a hint of both wistfulness and attitude.

David (David), Sunday, 5 January 2003 23:02 (twenty-three years ago)

I imagine that going on the telly would be like a combination of two of my most hated things - being photographed, and talking on the radio - and therefore I've avoided this.

I can completely sympathize with this, which is why I've never had anything to do with any situation which might lead to being photographed or on television. It's no accident that I have never posted a picture to any of the old "what do you look like?" threads.*

*Plus, it helps me be stealthy if I ever see an ilxor that has pissed me off -- I could take them out with EXTREME PREJUIDICE without them catching on in time.

Nicole (Nicole), Sunday, 5 January 2003 23:13 (twenty-three years ago)

Here now, Nicole, DB took a very nice picture of you and Windy when he was on his round-the-country trip. But fret not, he hasn't posted it or anything.
