Was the world ready for a Michael Jackson video screen waitron with a Max Headroom voice?

Wasn't there a Ronald Reagan Max Headroom as well? If so, definitely prescient.

die9o (dhadis), Tuesday, 31 December 2002 16:25 (twenty-three years ago)

(I mean in the cafe of course.)

die9o (dhadis), Tuesday, 31 December 2002 16:26 (twenty-three years ago)

Yep.

Back to the Future is great, I saw the first film just now.

so did I.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Tuesday, 31 December 2002 18:36 (twenty-three years ago)

They just showed part 2 on the Starz network (their theme song is "We Are All Made of Stars").

Jody Beth Rosen (Jody Beth Rosen), Tuesday, 31 December 2002 18:42 (twenty-three years ago)

I liked it better when their theme song was "movies movies movies movies movies movies movies" to the tune of Beethoven's Ode to Joy.

Jody Beth Rosen (Jody Beth Rosen), Tuesday, 31 December 2002 18:43 (twenty-three years ago)

I need to see part 2 now, as all I can remember from it is some futuristic skateboard.

jel -- (jel), Tuesday, 31 December 2002 18:45 (twenty-three years ago)

Prescient. In Earth's distant future, when humans have gone extinct and the electronic/information-based life forms we spawn are the prominent society on Earth, Max Headroom will be their Jesus, and Back to the Future 2 will be their Bible.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Tuesday, 31 December 2002 18:49 (twenty-three years ago)

shoot me now.

The Cafe '80s was (I presume) a comment on '50s-nostalgia theme diners, which were very popular in the '80s. BTTF2 came out in 1989, a year that seems to be a little too late in the decade to be celebrated as nostalgically as, say, 1985 (the year the first BTTF was in theaters), so we don't think of the sequel that often. BTTF1 plays a big part in present-day '80s revivalism, though. The Cafe '80s in the sequel would have been complete if it had something BTTF-related, and it did: Michael J. Fox himself, who wasn't yet a nostalgia item, but who would become one in the future.

I'm still waiting for Cafe 80's.

Or do you think they'll work on the self-adjusting tennis shoes first?

JBR is OTM

the pinefox, Thursday, 2 January 2003 18:33 (twenty-three years ago)

late-80s nostalgia is going to be weird. all i can remember from that time is Paula Abdul.

Aaron Grossman (aajjgg), Thursday, 2 January 2003 18:40 (twenty-three years ago)

jel -- (jel), Thursday, 2 January 2003 18:42 (twenty-three years ago)

Aaron Grossman (aajjgg), Thursday, 2 January 2003 18:43 (twenty-three years ago)

Little Known Fact:
Elijah Wood is the kid playing Duck hunt in Cafe 80s.
Thank you Nardwuar, it makes my life that much closer to complete.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Friday, 3 January 2003 20:23 (twenty-three years ago)

Nardwuar: How much running did you do for ‘Run Lola Run’? Did you prepare a lot, did you run a lot?
Elijah's gf: No.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Friday, 3 January 2003 20:52 (twenty-three years ago)

one month passes...
My favorite dud moment is the crappy 'YOU'RE FIRED!!!" fax. I mean they could at least have made it look a bit snazzier, even if the 'no paper' thing was a leap too far.

N. (nickdastoor), Thursday, 13 February 2003 02:04 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm still waiting for Cafe 80's.

They do. It's called New York City.
