I tried amyl nitrate once. I was living in a hostel in Earl's Court; one night I came back from the pub blind drunk, and as I stumbled up the stairs this Asian girl appeared out another door, held out a little nail polish-sized bottle and told me to inhale.

My recollection of that evening ends with a faint rememberance of me crawling up the stairs, presumably in search of my mislaid motor skills.
