When it's the mid-afternoon, and there's no-one else around... Arthur or Hey Arnold!?

Though obviously it's much more complex than that.

Hmmm, this is a hard one, I like Hey Arnold and Arthur. CBBC has Byker Grove and Grange Hill, and Blue Peter was good today (an idepth analysis of Stock, Aitken and Waterman and a live performance by Dead or Alive!!!!). CBBC loses points for Cavegirl, but gains some back for Basil Brush.

(God, I've revealed far too much about myself on this thread)

You mean Iceman and Firestar? That was on BBC.

''she just got the sack.''

b-but why? I demand an answer!

Back in the '80s, it had to be CBBC over CITV.

(nowadays, of course, I have no idea cos I have to go to work etc)

caitlin (caitlin), Saturday, 11 January 2003 16:40 (twenty-one years ago) link

Julio: it's coz she's working with Tarrant on Capital Radio, and the Beeb like their presenters to be exclusive.

damn! newsround women presenters always got me going after I got home from school. hopefully they'll find a 'good' replacement.

as far as the question goes: i haven't watched children's telly (apart from cartoons on sat aftrenoon) in a long while.

How II, George's Fabulous Watch, early-era The Ward

vs

Byker Grove, Grange Hill, Fairly Odd Parents, The Queen's Nose, early-era Rugrats, early-era Kenan & Kel

CBBC all the way.

zemko (bob), Sunday, 12 January 2003 20:55 (twenty-one years ago) link

also i have a weird urge to debase the horsey ting on blue peter

zemko (bob), Sunday, 12 January 2003 20:57 (twenty-one years ago) link

CBBC is best for the lovely Konnie Huq from Blue Peter. She is my celebrity crush.

fractal (fractal), Wednesday, 15 January 2003 02:11 (twenty-one years ago) link

nineteen years pass...

CBBC.

If I wished to cut channels from the state broadcaster I would simply begin by axing the children's service which secured the fanatical allegiance of parents by pivoting on a sixpence to keep their kids entertained and educated during a recent terrible two-year-long pandemic https://t.co/Njv264fxGP

...gone...I know the politics of the BBC don't leave it with much enthusiasm for it but there just won't be much of it left in a few years.

when I used to have a rear projection television 20 years ago, the Cbeebies logo was permanently image-burned onto the screen. It's fucking shit really because not everyone has internet access.

my theory is that there will be an outcry over this, and a successful campaign, then everyone will be so pleased with themselves that they won't mind so much that they are still getting rid of BBC4, Radio 4 Extra, etc. not sure if this strategy has a name, but seem to see it a lot.

it's a mixed bag is R4 Extra, but I do like it when they put old stuff on like the Vincent Price of Fear series from the 70's. But often when you put it on it's some tepid drama or NPR shite. But I still would miss it tbh.

calzino, Thursday, 26 May 2022 20:26 (one year ago) link

Yes, I can't see CBBC going without a fight.

Doodles Diamond (Tom D.), Thursday, 26 May 2022 20:29 (one year ago) link

xp it's much like BBC4 in terms of massively missed potential, given the incredible archive they apparently can't be bothered to dig into

Portrait Of A Dissolvi Ng Drea M (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Thursday, 26 May 2022 20:30 (one year ago) link

yes it's too much of the same popular comedy hits in rotation or just shit radio plays that no-one really cared much for in the first place. Like you say with such a deep and rich archive, it could have been beautiful and they still could have fitted in some of the "popular" stuff that seemingly not enough people are listening to anyway.
