classic 60s love pop?

does anyone have recommendations for classic 60s love pop in the vein of donovan's best moments (there is a mountain, sunshine superman, mellow yellow) but less well known? i'm thinking along the lines of early floyd, pretty things (maybe), the occasional USA song, silver apples possibly, beach boys except they're too popular for this usage (looking for obscurer things)... muchos gracias.

how about "and suddenly" by the left banke or "tell her no" by the zombies? two of my favourite sixties tunes.

What about the GROUP Love???
Billy Bragg
Nick Drake
The Zombies
Jefferson Airplane
You could use some OBSCURE beach boys songs like off Smilie Smile or whatever the hell that's called - I really like "Wonderful"
Nico

"wake the world" or "meant for you" would be a good beach boys choice.

The Box Tops leap to mind.

mark s (mark s), Thursday, 16 January 2003 01:39 (twenty-three years ago)

I feel it in my fingers, I feel it in my toes. (Avoid all cover versions like the plague.)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 16 January 2003 01:43 (twenty-three years ago)

Mmmm, Love. Listening to Alone Again Or now. Mmmmm.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Thursday, 16 January 2003 11:48 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh yeah! I just spotted 'Billy Bragg'. How the hell did he get in there?

N. (nickdastoor), Thursday, 16 January 2003 12:14 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm responsible for the Billy Bragg discussion. Some of his songs are very romantic, just in a very bitter sweet way I guess. Not very happy and lovey dovey sounding. Sorry. I take it back!

Sarah McLusky (coco), Thursday, 16 January 2003 13:44 (twenty-three years ago)

I think it was the '60s' thing we were puzzled by, Sarah.

N. (nickdastoor), Thursday, 16 January 2003 14:16 (twenty-three years ago)

ha ha
Forgot about that part of the thread title completely.
Feeling a bit scatter-brained lately.

Loves - Wonder, I do Wonder is classic 60's pop.

Chris V. (Chris V), Thursday, 16 January 2003 15:35 (twenty-three years ago)

"The coldest night of the year" by Twice as Much and Vashti, "On a Saturday" by Keith West and "Crimson and Clover" by Tommy James and the Shondells are three blissfully romantic 60s tunes that leap to mind.

Tag, Thursday, 16 January 2003 15:44 (twenty-three years ago)

"Younger Girl" by The Lovin' Spoonful and "A Groovy Kind of Love" by The Mindbenders.

Genevieve, Thursday, 16 January 2003 16:09 (twenty-three years ago)

The duke would be proud.

Tag, Thursday, 16 January 2003 16:10 (twenty-three years ago)

Err, Love aren't all that lovey-dovey either, yknow: "Sitting on a hillside, watching all the people die..."

Justyn Dillingham (Justyn Dillingham), Thursday, 16 January 2003 16:17 (twenty-three years ago)

Petula Clark?

Chris V. (Chris V), Thursday, 16 January 2003 16:23 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh Tag, I miss you!

And also: Chad & Jeremy, "A Summer Song". "Oh How Happy" by Shades of Blue is another great love song, but it's Motown.

Genevieve, Thursday, 16 January 2003 16:43 (twenty-three years ago)

Mushroom clouds are falling and sky is dark and gray

Ha ha

Maybe that's true about Love, but they SOUND lovey dovey I think.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Thursday, 16 January 2003 17:07 (twenty-three years ago)

Da Capo and self titled album aren't too lovey dovey. Forever Changes is more lovey than the others.

How about some shitty 70's love pop. Poco - Crazy Love

Chris V. (Chris V), Thursday, 16 January 2003 17:09 (twenty-three years ago)

I miss you too, Genevieve. Are you still in Scotland?
