i looked him up on google but about ten millions orgs have named themselves after him plus it's all in german anyway

This is the Czech educator? I just looked him up in Chamber's Biolgraphical. It's a reasonable length entry. Not much about ideas, just "a pioneer of new language teaching methods" and "planning a Baconian College of all the sciences". It says 'Orbis Sensualium Pictus' was the first foreign language textbook to use pictures as a visual aid.

(Will Eisner often talked about the US military doing a study on how to teach and train, and finding that comics were best. Looks like Comenius was ahead of them.)
