i liked the met. but it is VAST. i blew through most of what i was keenly interested in during two 4-hour visits, but you could spend a lot of time in there, if you were so inclined

yeah, i'm kinda scared of doing one of the biggies since i don't have a ton of time

The Whitney was my favourite when I was there.

I like Mondo Kim's

THE FRICK.
small, intimate, in a nice building, with a good, well curated collection, esp. Chardin.

"you could spend a lot of time in there, if you were so inclined"

I had an extra day to kill, and spent 4 hours just in the pacific island area. And another hour staring at two Yves Tanguy paintings. That was fun.

Also the Hirshhorn is good

The hot Alain Delon movie at Film Forum! The teenage bedroom show somewhere in Chelsea maybe. Luomo at Piano's if you want to brush shoulders with fellow ILMers. 2nd Avenue Deli is really good but a bit on the pricier deli side. If you go there the pototo pancakes are yummy. Some like Katz's. Veselka is a good cheap deli.

Yaffa Cafe is neither a deli nor (especially) good.

The classic New York delis are the Carnegie Deli, Katz's and the Second Avenue Deli.

If you go to the Whitney (or the Met), the Viand "restaurant" on Madison between 78 and 79 is convenient for a turkey sandwich and local color (platinum, probably, as you're on the upper east side).

anthony easton (anthony), Thursday, 16 January 2003 06:51 (twenty-three years ago)

I second the Frick. And go for a walk in Central Park if it's not too cold.

Arthur (Arthur), Thursday, 16 January 2003 07:12 (twenty-three years ago)

mama's was my favorite thing in nyc. except of course all you wonderful nice people

ron (ron), Thursday, 16 January 2003 07:23 (twenty-three years ago)

i went to the whitney. i couldn't sell my companions on the frick. next time. i also had an egg cream at the gem spa, where the cover of the first ny dolls record is. the front of the building is all covered in scaffolding so it wasn't that impressive to antone but me.
