No one’s like Fitzgerald! But maybe try Dawn Powell’s A Time to be Born, or Two Serious Ladies, or the Go-Between, or I Capture The Castle, or Denton Welch, or JL Carr’s A Month in the Country, or William Maxwell, or even The Long Goodbye. They’re all exquisite, smart, fun, not middle-of-the-road.
