The comic = classic, though the many spin-offs have rather taken the bloom off the rose.
The animated series = classic also.
The live action show = ??? Though it has Patrick Warburton, so I can well believe that it rocks at least partly.

so, aside from that, i never saw the cartoon version of this, only the live action (which was awesome). is the cartoon funny in a non-kiddie-conversion way?
― John Justen, Wednesday, 6 February 2008 18:34 (eighteen years ago)
by cartoon, i mean animated series, obv.
The cartoon is funny.
― Abbott, Wednesday, 6 February 2008 18:35 (eighteen years ago)
The cartoon captures the spirit of the book very well, I thought.
― HI DERE, Wednesday, 6 February 2008 18:36 (eighteen years ago)
Arthur is one of my favorite characters ever.
― Abbott, Wednesday, 6 February 2008 18:36 (eighteen years ago)
I liked Die Fledermaus in the animated series more than Batmanuel in the live action series, but Nestor Carbonell is a pretty underrated comic talent.
― Alex in Baltimore, Wednesday, 6 February 2008 18:37 (eighteen years ago)

Finally watching the live-action Tick on Hulu (still there). It has its problems- really static direction, a lot of the production design and costumes are just ugly as sin, but when it worked it worked. Superhero/sidekick gay jokes- been done. Superhero/sidekick gay jokes with Ron Perlman and proto Venture-Bros. dialogue ("Mandingo, how I grok your mouth-music!")- much better.
A lot of jokes from Venture Bros. seem to have gotten a dry run on this show, like the episode where Rusty and the Pirate Captain keep using band names as exclamations of surprise ("Ladysmith Black Mambazo!"/"Jesus Jones!"/etc, "Bachman Turner Overdrive!" here).

― oder doch?, Monday, 4 September 2017 13:32 (eight years ago)
Total newbie to this. I didn't realise that the new series was based on an existing comic book. How much of The Tick is based on the comic book and how much is Peter Serafinowicz as it plays to his strengths fantastically.
― Dan Worsley, Monday, 4 September 2017 14:30 (eight years ago)
i haven't seen the new amazon adaptation but the comic-book/animated-series version of the character is a self-important, borderline-delusional blowhard, which seems v much in serafinowicz's wheelhouse
― Wesley Shackleton explained "look at that beast." (bizarro gazzara), Monday, 4 September 2017 15:04 (eight years ago)
He is fully delusional in the Amazon version. But also kind-hearted and indestructible.
― oder doch?, Monday, 4 September 2017 15:08 (eight years ago)
yeah he is really kind-hearted to Arthur, pretty nice to see he's like a kinder batman
