Joining a "fraternal" organization: C/D?

I have been thinking about joining a group like Odd Fellows, mostly because I'm boring and unimaginative when it comes to helping others. Everyone I've ever talked to about this subject says joining groups like the Masons or Kiwanis or whatever is pretty silly or self-serving, as people who join them are mostly there to network. So what do you all think?

I want to join the Masons! I so want to. but they never ask me.

DV (dirtyvicar), Thursday, 16 January 2003 19:46 (twenty-three years ago)

Why? You want to get into the coffin with only one sock on, I'm guessing.

Bryan (Bryan), Thursday, 16 January 2003 20:59 (twenty-three years ago)

Always seemed like a frat thing for people who couldn't make excuses to get female college students drunk any more.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 16 January 2003 21:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Can anyone get me into the Masons?

DV (dirtyvicar), Thursday, 16 January 2003 23:37 (twenty-three years ago)

The Masons are cool from all I've heard- well, the branches that accept women are anyway.

Do you get free booze??

brg30 (brg30), Friday, 17 January 2003 00:21 (twenty-three years ago)

No, but they have their own web community. It's like ILM but without the Japanese psychedelia references.

The only one I approve of is the Trilateral Commission, since they secretly get to run the world and stuff.

Nicole (Nicole), Friday, 17 January 2003 13:21 (twenty-three years ago)

I read masons as mansons the first two times it was used.

RJG (RJG), Friday, 17 January 2003 13:40 (twenty-three years ago)

The Trilateral Commission are yesterday's news. These days the Bilderburg Group is where it's at.

Don Lucknowe, Friday, 17 January 2003 14:36 (twenty-three years ago)

Fuck that shit, The Omega Mu's is where its at.

Chris V. (Chris V), Friday, 17 January 2003 14:41 (twenty-three years ago)

Chris V rules.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 17 January 2003 14:49 (twenty-three years ago)

thanks.

Chris V. (Chris V), Friday, 17 January 2003 14:51 (twenty-three years ago)

Thanks for the assistance, everyone. I'll be reviving the Rhino Party instead of joining the Masons.

Bryan (Bryan), Friday, 17 January 2003 17:33 (twenty-three years ago)

What about the Shriners?

rosemary (rosemary), Friday, 17 January 2003 18:24 (twenty-three years ago)

As far as I know, you become a Shriner after a while of being a Mason. Takes a lot of time to be one (I have an ex whose father was a Mason and a Shriner and he didn't like it much), which is why a lot of them are retired, as well as a lot of money. I don't think I could fit into one of the little cars, either.

Bryan (Bryan), Saturday, 18 January 2003 22:21 (twenty-three years ago)

my granddad was a mason and my dad said no, they asked me and i said no. now i regret it

anthony easton (anthony), Saturday, 18 January 2003 22:43 (twenty-three years ago)

Definitely would've been an opportunity to fuck things up. I like the rings, and I'd like to have one of those shields for the trunk lid of my car.

Bryan (Bryan), Saturday, 18 January 2003 23:46 (twenty-three years ago)

fuck the Trilateral Commission, the Bilderburgers, and the Omega Mus. none of them have any power, that's all conspiratorial nonsense ...

... especially since everyone knows that it's the Skull and Bones that run everything. or 12 jewish families in Switzerland.

Steve Carlton (llamasfur), Sunday, 19 January 2003 00:27 (twenty-three years ago)

Fuck that shit. Joining a suicide cult, complete with the obligatory fearless leader, is obviously the way to go.

, Sunday, 19 January 2003 03:58 (twenty-three years ago)

You haff 2 options:

1. GO MORMON

2. ENLIST IN THE MARINES

You are wery velcome.

Tom Millar (Millar), Sunday, 19 January 2003 04:02 (twenty-three years ago)

Eh, the Mormons are hardly a suicide cult. Obnoxious as hell and lacking in fashion sense, though. Hey, somebody bust out some purple robes or something.

, Sunday, 19 January 2003 04:06 (twenty-three years ago)

Someone get me a hanky.
