I'd stayed out all night in glasgow and was feeling sort of stale by morningtime and the first snow of the year had just fallen and I was walking to the station and coughing and then coughed up a bunch of blood into the snow. I was OK, though.

― bell_labs, Tuesday, 20 November 2007 19:09 (eighteen years ago)
about a mouthful of bloody phlegm every 30 mins, final twist in the nasty flu/virus ive been suffering from this past ten days.
have had sharp pain under the ribs on the right side since 4am, presumably whatever ive done/torn with the coughing is down there somewhere.
I'll survive, right......RIGHT?

I don't care if it's expensive, if you are coughing up blood, you SEE A DOCTOR
― Sara R-C, Saturday, 7 February 2015 15:57 (eleven years ago)
Sorry, I'm a pulm nurse and that is not normal or good.
I had a pt once in the hospital who was coughing up blood but didn't know it. I was busy that night and got to his room and saw his sputum and said, "wait, how long has this been pink?" He didn't know because he was color blind. ARGH
Contacted the medical service, don't know what happened after that because my shift was over. But I'm pretty sure he went to ICU after that.
It might not be terrible but it's *definitely* not something you just let go.
― Sara R-C, Saturday, 7 February 2015 15:59 (eleven years ago)

― local eire man (darraghmac), Saturday, 7 February 2015 16:02 (eleven years ago)
can't disregard that deems, unless you have been drinking blood recently
― anima corrective (nakhchivan), Saturday, 7 February 2015 16:03 (eleven years ago)
If you've been coughing a lot you could have a minor rib fracture. I and another person I know have gotten them when suffering from bronchitis. Never coughed up blood, though.
― SCOTTISH PEOPLE ONLY (I M Losted), Saturday, 7 February 2015 17:09 (eleven years ago)
Rib injuries are the worst, I tore an intercostal muscle a few years ago and it fucked me up for weeks. Still get slight chest pains when it's cold, and sometimes find myself grabbing my right breast whenever I sneeze as I had to when I was recovering to give the muscle support & prevent extra damage

Hey dm when it comes to Vonnegut I always found Cat's Cradle my choice comfort read, I read it 3 times and one of the times was when I shattered my ankle and was in hospital to get it pinned. After the operation I got cellulitus (sp? it's a blood infection) and was put in a room because they were concerned it might have been MRSA, I was really pissed when they sent me out into the pleb ward again!
