What songs should I cover? What songs would you cover?

I was thinking this morning, I really want to record a covers album. So far the definites are Here I Go Again by Whitesnake and Bat Out of Hell by Meatloaf, I need at least 10 more. Oh, and when I say cover version, I mean me intoning or screeching the lyrics over a backing of radio static, keyboard drones and bad guitar playing.

And yeah, what would you cover? or what songs have you covered?

I heard the McCoy's "Hang on Snoopy" this morning, so I might do that one as well.

Would somebody please record a grunge version of "Wouldn't it be Good" by Nik Kershaw. I am pretty certain this would be the best record ever made.

Mike Hanle y, Sunday, 19 January 2003 15:51 (twenty-three years ago)

"End Of The World As We Know It" by REM, or "Eberneezer Goode" by the Shamen. A must for the radio static treatment.

Al Ewing (Al Ewing), Sunday, 19 January 2003 16:09 (twenty-three years ago)

If I ever get around to forming a rock band, songs I've considered covering include "Another Rainy Night" by Queensryche and "Limelight" or "A Farewell to Kings" by Rush.

sundar subramanian (sundar), Sunday, 19 January 2003 16:24 (twenty-three years ago)

"Keeping the Dream Alive" by Munchener Freiheit. I think I've said that before.

At work, I decided to also cover "under pressure".

jel -- (jel), Monday, 20 January 2003 18:45 (twenty-three years ago)

You can't go wrong with "Total Eclipse of the Heart". I'd cover Ringo's "Back Off Boogaloo". Or the leper's song from Jesus Christ Superstar.

Arthur (Arthur), Monday, 20 January 2003 19:08 (twenty-three years ago)

'Sugar Me' Lynsey de Paul?

kayT (kaytee), Monday, 20 January 2003 23:05 (twenty-three years ago)

Boots Randolph - "Yakety Sax"

Curtis Stephens, Tuesday, 21 January 2003 00:33 (twenty-three years ago)

Wichita Linesman - just to piss people off
Beach Boys - something off of Love You - maybe Airplane
Daft Punk - Digital Love (on acoustic guitar would be nice)

dog latin (dog latin), Tuesday, 21 January 2003 01:29 (twenty-three years ago)

di smith (lucylurex), Tuesday, 21 January 2003 01:43 (twenty-three years ago)

Wipe Out, or Chop Suey

A Nairn (moretap), Tuesday, 21 January 2003 03:24 (twenty-three years ago)

"I mean me intoning or screeching the lyrics over a backing of radio static, keyboard drones and bad guitar playing."

Oh, i didn't read this part, for the two I mentioned above it would have to be really precise skillful playing.

A Nairn (moretap), Tuesday, 21 January 2003 03:25 (twenty-three years ago)

He could do an a capella version of Wipeout.

Curtis Stephens, Tuesday, 21 January 2003 03:28 (twenty-three years ago)

I want to be in a Bruce Springsteen-covering punk band. All Boss, all really fast so that his words spill at you even faster.

might have to get that micromachine man from galoob to sing vocals.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Tuesday, 21 January 2003 03:37 (twenty-three years ago)

na na na na na naaaa na wipe out!

A Nairn (moretap), Tuesday, 21 January 2003 03:48 (twenty-three years ago)

turbonegro!

Tad (llamasfur), Saturday, 25 January 2003 04:51 (twenty-three years ago)

Yeah, definitely "Wichita Lineman." Or the Carpenters' "Superstar." I long to be a hammy lounge singer.

Jody Beth Rosen (Jody Beth Rosen), Saturday, 25 January 2003 04:58 (twenty-three years ago)

Devo.

Or something by Neal Diamond - "Forever in Blue Jeans"? (I'm ducking after this post.)

I'm Passing Open Windows (Ms Laura), Saturday, 25 January 2003 05:42 (twenty-three years ago)

"Forever in Blue Jeans"

if not jel, or jel doing FIBJ a la Turbonegro, then definitely that's a song crying out for a Turbonegro cover!

Tad (llamasfur), Saturday, 25 January 2003 05:43 (twenty-three years ago)

*laughing* Too true.

I'm Passing Open Windows (Ms Laura), Saturday, 25 January 2003 05:45 (twenty-three years ago)

John Denver's "Annie's Song," Loggins and Messina's "Danny's Song," and so forth - basically any song whose title consists of a person's name and then "song." I can't decide if Elton John's "Your Song" should count or not.

I once heard a techno cover of "House at Pooh Corner," - positively brilliant! (Or I was too drunk to accurately assess the artistic qualities of said cover.)

I'm Passing Open Windows (Ms Laura), Saturday, 25 January 2003 06:09 (twenty-three years ago)

And how about "Ode to Billy Joe"? One of my favorites to sing, operatically, in the shower.

I'm Passing Open Windows (Ms Laura), Saturday, 25 January 2003 06:33 (twenty-three years ago)

eleven years pass...

I was thinking about this today. Here are some of the songs I'd cover if I knew how to sing or make music.

In Spanish
Pedro Guerra - Contaminame
Ivan - Fotonovela
Mecano - Hawaii Bombaii
Manzanita - Ramito de Violetas (based on the Banda el Mexicano cumbia cover rather than Manzanita's original)

In English

Alan Parsons Project - Games People Play
Dwight Twilley - Looking for the Magic
Tommy Roe - Sweet Pea
Royal Teens - Short Shorts
Liquido - Narcotic
The Beatles - You Know My Name
