what sizes is it? what's on the floor? on the walls? is there a lot of furniture in it? is it spartan or just one big mess?

what colours are there in your room?

A queen-size bed in the center of the room, a dresser for clothes, 15 CD racks of various shapes and sizes, and white walls. Yay?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 19 January 2003 17:17 (twenty-three years ago)

A big picture I took of a frozen traffic light in NYC, a bunch of records, a bed without a mattress on it, and a big pile of health insurance paperwork. I sleep upstairs now.

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Sunday, 19 January 2003 17:19 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh, and it's yellow. Yellow with chinese lettering scrawled all over it. I like my bamboo blind, tho'.

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Sunday, 19 January 2003 17:20 (twenty-three years ago)

My room's walls are a yellow that's a tiny bit too dark and a tiny bit too sickly. I have a red shelf abouve my computer desk, a mirror bext to it, and lots of IKEA furniture, which together proves extremely well that you get what you pay for. Hrumph.

I have a wicker chair that occasionally features about 50% of my entire wardrobe. There's a baseball bat by my door, for those moments where I just *have* to pretend I'm in Bugsy Malone.

My ceiling is white, and during the night it has scary shadows and flecks of light on it, which give me nightmares.

My bed is big and comfy and, for the next few months at least, empty apart from me.

Well this room (I have a big three-bedroomed house here, and I'm not going to describe every word) is quite big (25'x12'). I'm at one end at the computer. Down the left hand wall is shelving for videos, records, CDs and cassettes, plus the hifi, currently playing 'DJ Culture' by the Pet Shop Boys. The TV/video/digital box are near the far left corner, by the big windows. The right hand wall has the sofa, phone and its table, door to the hall, then a couple of bookcases stacked with cassettes. On the wall behind me, besides a door into the kitchen and a windown leading into the alleged conservatory, is another bookcase stuffed with art and reference books (most books are in the library, logically). The one thing that omits is my easy chair and coffee table, this side of the centre. The videos, CDs and tapes are stacked to my maximum reach in places (say 7'), so the place is cluttered, even if there weren't piles of mags (When Saturday Comes plus dance music), the papers (yesterday's Guardian, today's Sunday Indy), some art books that are my current reading, my work bag, a stack of comics to sell, a pile of Krazy Kat collections and related material for a big intended article.

I don't much notice colours, but the carpet is a deep red, as are the curtains, and the walls are cream, except the wall behind me which has red rag rolling over white, a legacy of my ex-wife.

The walls and ceiling are painted "china blue" and the door, window ledges and skirting board "antique satin" for elegant, tranquil, Feng-Shui friendly effect.

Large pine wardrobe & chest of drawers. Futon sofa-bed.

Desk with leather chair for my PC & CD player with my bookcase next to it.

CD rack and table by the bed. Boxes with loads of old magazines shunted into the right corner.

Still very much resembles a student's bedroom.

Like a file cabinet burst open (I have a lot of cleaning to do).

kinda like this:

Except now I have a new swivel chair, that painting has been swapped with a Kandinsky one, that little table has been folded up to make room for my IKEA CD holder and bookcase (both a very nice dark blue colour).

ILE Picture thread: show me your room
ILX Cribs

Mine is low-ceilinged, because it's in the basement. I'm actually sort of suspiciously surprised that I haven't had any slug dramas yet.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Sunday, 19 January 2003 20:05 (twenty-three years ago)

its huge, has a logburner, a liquor cabinet, a balcony, (ah i love dunedin and its super cheap rent) and presently not much stuff as i am still in the process of moving into it. by midday it will have a double bed, a desk, a piano, and many many boxes to unpack.

di smith (lucylurex), Sunday, 19 January 2003 21:10 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm sitting here with my cds and comfy pilows right now -

If I'm gonna be productive on a Sunday, I might as well be comfortable doing it.

If this means bedroom, well I live in a studio, but one of my closets is so huge I have room for a queen-sized bed, bookshelf, nighttable (is that a word?) and all my hanging up clothes and shelves with videos and shirts and shoes and other stuff. I guess I could post a picture, but my living room is more interesting.

Sean (Sean), Monday, 20 January 2003 01:28 (twenty-three years ago)

piles of clothes on the floor, untidy shelves full of toys, videos and books, clutter clutter clutter, a bed with the best pacman sheets, good posters on the walls, window seat covered with more clutter and multicoloured ugly carpet which is perfect for covering up stains left by spilt drinks. I like my room but I hardly spend any time in it.

Elisabeth (Elisabeth), Monday, 20 January 2003 01:33 (twenty-three years ago)

covered in books CDs, cassettes and vinyl. big queen sized bed. Random stray posters from high school (I'm housesitting back at home for a year while my mom's on sabbatical). As they fall down I don't replace them, but I will NOT take down this hysterical photo collage I made in high school of indie rockers. It's like a kid's N'SYNC collage except its fuckin' Lou Barlow, Greg Dulli, Peter Buck, Ira Kaplan, etc. Cracks me up and keeps me humble.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Monday, 20 January 2003 01:39 (twenty-three years ago)

papers all over floor, CDs all over table, modest bookshelf, computer on desk next to plain bed, blank walls, semi-lit most of the time, it's actually the living room of the apartment.

Honda (Honda), Monday, 20 January 2003 02:06 (twenty-three years ago)

My room has green walls with beatrix potter transfers on them. It contains a double bed, a lamp, a few books, a fruit bowl and lots of clothes. Oh, and a cat and a dog at the moment, lazy buggers.

toraneko (toraneko), Monday, 20 January 2003 02:10 (twenty-three years ago)

one year passes...
This is my room. Pretty much all you see is everything I have here, except on the wall behind me are some stacks of cds, an alarm clock, and some other things.

My room looks like a Salvation Army truck threw up in it.

kirsten (kirsten), Friday, 12 March 2004 01:03 (twenty-two years ago)

My room is quite small. Clothes all over the floor. Looks out onto tropically courtyard. Queen sized bed, black doona cover, pink and orange sheets and pillow cases. Pink mosquito net over bed. Whatever was I thinking?

ipsofacto (ipsofacto), Friday, 12 March 2004 01:07 (twenty-two years ago)

Ah, I have a new room now to describe, in my nice big new flat. The living room is about 18x13. I'm almost at one end at the computer, on an old dining table. Behind me to the right is a walk-in storage cupboard, with my videos on shelves at one end. Behind to the left is one bookcase full of cartoon books and another full of cassettes. Down the left hand wall is the door to the hall, the a bookcase full of art and reference books, then the door to the kitchen, then two more bookcases full of cassettes. In the far left corner is the TV, video and Sky digibox, with a Simpsons clock on top of the TV. Next to it is the sofabed, and in the other corner the telephone table. The right hand wall is all music: two bookcases of CDs, a small case of more cassettes, then the records, with the hifi itself just to my right. The only stuff omitted is the easy chair, in front of the computer table, and a couple of coffee tables. It's a lot of stuff (seven full size bookcases!), but there's still a fair bit of space. Carpet is beige-brown, walls cream - I've not got round to putting anything on them yet.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Friday, 12 March 2004 13:18 (twenty-two years ago)

My room's big with high ceilings and wooden flooring. It's painted white and has wide cornicing and a ceiling rose in the shape of an ostrich feather fan. In the middle is my bed - superkingsize from IKEA in the Malm style with oak veneer. My bedlinen is white. I have two bedside cabinets, a chest of drawers and a tall triple wardrobe, also IKEA/oak veneer. Behind my bed, on what used to be the chimney breast, I have stuck a sample of a green and leafy William Morris wallpaper, which I'll use to cover that section of wall so it makes a kind of extended headboard. I can't do it yet because the flat is full of rising damp and sometime in the next six months workmen will be ripping down chunks of wall.

I have one big, south facing window. When I get around to making curtains they will be dark green and 3 metres long so they touch the floor. At the moment, when I get undressed at night, I am shielded from my neighbours' view (at least I hope I am) by a skanky net curtain and an overgrown fuchsia bush in the garden.

On top of my chest of drawers I have a Swedish glass candle holder, a dark green silk jewellery box with beaded dragonflies, 3 spiced fig candles and a japanese fan. By my bed i have a small stereo, a pile of books, lots of perfume and a faux art deco mirror.
