Are there any actors on ILX? Have you studied acting or done some acting work in the past? Do you think it is something that should be taught, or is it better to know less and be intuitive? Do you like acting?

yes.

RJG (RJG), Monday, 20 January 2003 16:01 (twenty-three years ago)

N. to thread!

Mark C (Mark C), Monday, 20 January 2003 17:31 (twenty-three years ago)

Yes, I love acting. The main problem is that many people who also love it are incredibly self-absorbed/solipsistic (not me me me of course) and that can be highly annoying. Also, never date an actress.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Monday, 20 January 2003 18:05 (twenty-three years ago)

Spencer is OTM, probably marking the first time he and I agree on anything

Millar (Millar), Monday, 20 January 2003 18:55 (twenty-three years ago)

I enjoy acting and do plays sometimes, and I'd like to do more. The writing/directing aspect is what really interests me though. Like anything else, I think it helps to study it, as that in turn increases your confidence. My problem is the university theatre students here really annoy me. They are very cliquish, loud and improv club obsessed. I've always found improv to be deeply unfunny, but for them it is a must.

I've acted quite a bit in the past, in fact I've had WAY more training as an actor than as a musician...however, I don't enjoy acting, hence, I haven't done any in something like 10 years.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Monday, 20 January 2003 19:28 (twenty-three years ago)

I was in a show on 42nd St, on "Theater Row"!! woooo hoo!! Of course that was 6 months ago. The eight people who saw my two perfs might have forgotten my face by now. It's a hustle I tells ya. Anyway yes you have to practice just like anything else (doing chemistry, shooting a gun, etc). Even terrible actors that you love to hate have had their share of training just to get to that minimum level of crapness.

one year passes...
Well it looks like I'm going to be playing a male anorexic for a film about a clinic.

HAHAHAHAH

And to think, it could have been Batman.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 22:47 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm finally getting into the voice-over thing, in earnest.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 23:15 (twenty-two years ago)

People are telling me I should do that, Spencer. Is it worth the effort?

luna (luna.c), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 23:34 (twenty-two years ago)

I'll let you know whenever the first check clears! Right now, I'm working up to a demo and then I'll be shopping it to agents.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 23:39 (twenty-two years ago)

and that should be when/if I get one that clears.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 23:40 (twenty-two years ago)

I say 'when'.

luna (luna.c), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 23:41 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm going to be in an opera at the beginning of March! HOORAY I AM A THESPIAN AGAIN.

With that voice, they'll prolly be falling all over themselves to take you on (male/female).

Woot! Got your fake mustache ready? Dust off the wigs and britches? Can we see it?

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 23:46 (twenty-two years ago)

Actually I will be in Red Army garb! I'm so psyched about this.

It's "Nixon In China" by John Adams and it's going to be performed the second weekend of March (I think... hmmm, maybe I should figure that out).

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 23:48 (twenty-two years ago)

It should be renamed 'Dan Perry's October Symphony'!

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 23:50 (twenty-two years ago)

Perry laying waste to the countryside, while warbling his tenor rumble? Pics better be had!

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 23:51 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm a lowly chorister, but hey; IT'S A PAID GIG!

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 11 February 2004 00:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Damn straight!

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Wednesday, 11 February 2004 00:01 (twenty-two years ago)

i love john adams, and would kill to be in a town that actually played that kind of opera.

Ah, I missed this! Yes, do report and tell people you know that you have these friends...

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 11 February 2004 06:11 (twenty-two years ago)

Actors: I admire their ability to be sociable to all (I can't quite do this), but the insularity, while entertaining in short bursts, was a drag to be honest.

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 11 February 2004 11:15 (twenty-two years ago)

one month passes...
revive.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Saturday, 3 April 2004 20:26 (twenty-two years ago)

I played "girl sitting alone at a table" as an extra in a student film two years ago. Even though the image of me, in the background, as the real actors act out there scene, is rather blurry and vague, I think if you pay really close attention it is glaringly obvious that I suck. I wasn't in the moment; I just kinda phoned it in.

jewelly (jewelly), Sunday, 4 April 2004 02:56 (twenty-two years ago)

i've just done a whole bunch!

s1ocki (slutsky), Sunday, 4 April 2004 02:59 (twenty-two years ago)

Of actors?

Trayce (trayce), Sunday, 4 April 2004 04:46 (twenty-two years ago)

seven years pass...

HAHAHAHAH

buzza, Monday, 19 March 2012 06:28 (fourteen years ago)

It certainly is something learned..

If one person in a set piece is being 'normal', and everyone else is 'acting', that means everyone else is projecting themselves in one direction, and the one person is probably not.
