What I mean is - I've been futzing with my website recently, making a page w/ links to all the non-site stuff I've written, as well as reorganizing stuff I have @ my site. Tonight / this morning, suffering from mild insomnia (that is, I go to bed @ 4:30 in the morning), I've been reading old posts from my site, as well as popping over to NYLPM & Pitchfork & Fakejazz and checking out my wares. Now that I'm done - that is, now that I'm going to go to SLEEP, finally - I'm caught between experiencing that innocent spring-cleaning nostalgia (you know - dust & vacuum for 30 minutes, flip through old Highlights & Ranger Rick magazines for 4 hours) and the Prince-in-his-studio self-absorbed vibe.

So let's talk about our creative endeavors (however minor & shatty & inconsequential they may seem) & self-admiration. When you do it, why you do it, how it makes you feel, thoughts & opinions on the topic, and so forth.

I used to enjoy the process of doing things like painting, writing, recording songs...but recently, it's not enough, I want to be successful/make money from it. I really want to go back to the days where the results didn't matter and it was all about getting lost in things. That is why I am going to record a cover versions album, and probably start another ILX comp, and give trying to sell a painting one last shot.

Makin' movies-it's expensive, it's not a viable career option, stuf goes wrong, and I am the least technical person in the world. I have given up time and time again. I am currently doing GAWD-awful temp job just so that I can go back for a while to doing something that I cannot tear myself away from-equipment I've bought and hardly usd (my beloved super-8 cam), half-finished scripts that I lie about (to myself and others). But I'll read an article or see an incredible film, and I will be back in the trenches again like an idiot.

my creative endeavors have all sucked. well, not entirely, there's been some good websites i've designed. not stupendous, but good compared to the shit they were replacing.

the title of the thread amused me. so, do you have a tan now?
