My personal hated games are the hilarious "Knightmare" game for the Spectrum that contained a bug so you couldn't actually get passed the first two screens, the utter unplayable horror that was Tunnel B-1 and Metal Gear Solid. Great gameplay on the latter but a story so damn childish that I couldn't play it beyond a certain point as I was laughing so damn hard at the plot. You play a guy called "Solid Snake". I rest my case.

The Action 52 for NES would have to be the worst, especially for the people who bought it for the full $200 price.

(btw, TSR's NES archive is one of the best pages on the web, even if it is not updated anymore)

More like, has there ever been a good game based on a license? Most licensed games are just poor versions of whatever are the currently popular game archetypes, except w/ different, license-based graphics. The Simpsons arcade game was just the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles arcade game except with different graphics, which itself was a mediocre 3/4-view side scroller.
One exception is the obscure, Macross-based shooter games for the SNES.

A game I made called 'Dan Druff and the Invasion of the Greicans' was very poor, not least because it had a start-up screen using ASCII characters and had nothing else besides that screen.

that NES turtles game was like a horrible unresolved childhood anxiety. i even remember finally figuring out the underwater timebomb stuff only to realize the game kept going on... i was too exhausted to keep up. i liked how when you were about to die it played this awful haunting beeping noise.

#1: E.T.
Predating GTA in the "morally bankrupt" category is Custer's Revenge (surely this has been discussed on ILE before).
