A woman that everyone likes and everyone has seen

Perhaps easier than finding a man?

Who does everyone know and like on ILE? (people from Dunedin are not allowed).

Lady Miss Kier?

N. (nickdastoor), Thursday, 23 January 2003 17:24 (twenty-three years ago)

You have fallen at the first hurdle N, I don't like her.

Tom (Groke), Thursday, 23 January 2003 17:28 (twenty-three years ago)

Audrey Hepburn?

Justyn Dillingham (Justyn Dillingham), Thursday, 23 January 2003 17:28 (twenty-three years ago)

Do you mean like as in find attractive, or like as in think is a lovely person?

I heard Lady Miss Kier talk once, and was rather put off her.

DV (dirtyvicar), Thursday, 23 January 2003 17:29 (twenty-three years ago)

marilyn monroe

minna (minna), Thursday, 23 January 2003 17:30 (twenty-three years ago)

Joanna Lumley

Ben Mott (Ben Mott), Thursday, 23 January 2003 17:32 (twenty-three years ago)

In a more cynical mood I would say that this is harder than finding a man everyone likes, because women don't like (famous) women and men only like women if they're young and attractive. I don't think I will though.

Audrey is a good call, except there is the inevitable backlash to worry about.

Archel (Archel), Thursday, 23 January 2003 17:32 (twenty-three years ago)

I think for Brits at least: Kathy Burke.

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Thursday, 23 January 2003 17:33 (twenty-three years ago)

Well I didn't want to kill off my thread before it had started, Tom. I thought of Lady Miss Kier as being vaguely equivalent to Bob Carolgees.

Audrey Hepburn I find *really* annoying sometimes, though I have hardly seen her in films. But shortly before she died I saw her on TV at some lifetime award ceremony whinging on about some charity and still trying to be doe-eyed and winsome.

N. (nickdastoor), Thursday, 23 January 2003 17:34 (twenty-three years ago)

Grace Kelly

Ben Mott (Ben Mott), Thursday, 23 January 2003 17:36 (twenty-three years ago)

Mother Teresa possibly?

(I don't dislike her per se...)

mark p (Mark P), Thursday, 23 January 2003 17:36 (twenty-three years ago)

I *kind* of have a problem with Kathy Burke too. More in the way she is treated that the her herself I guess.

Anyone vetoing Joanna Lumley or Marilyn Monroe. I don't really fancy either madly by the way, but I do like them and that's what the thread's about, yes.

Grace Kelly was a slapper.

N. (nickdastoor), Thursday, 23 January 2003 17:36 (twenty-three years ago)

Mother Theresa I *really* have a problem with.

N. (nickdastoor), Thursday, 23 January 2003 17:37 (twenty-three years ago)

Mother Teresa possibly?

Christopher Hitchens to thread.

James Ball (James Ball), Thursday, 23 January 2003 17:37 (twenty-three years ago)

Hitchens shouldn't count! He hates everything.

mark p (Mark P), Thursday, 23 January 2003 17:38 (twenty-three years ago)

N. Do you hate charity?

Simeon (Simeon), Thursday, 23 January 2003 17:39 (twenty-three years ago)

That seems a little harsh on Audrey N. She was a much better goodwill ambadassor than Geri Halliwell, anyway. And maybe doe-eyed and winsome was her default public face, even with colon cancer.

I have gone off Kathy Burke.

Archel (Archel), Thursday, 23 January 2003 17:40 (twenty-three years ago)

Uma Thurman
Sigourney Weaver
Diana Rigg
Jenny Agutter
Jane Fonda
Susan Sarandon
Michelle Pfeiffer
Lee Remick

Ben Mott (Ben Mott), Thursday, 23 January 2003 17:41 (twenty-three years ago)

the little white girl in the "Work It" video

James Blount (James Blount), Thursday, 23 January 2003 17:41 (twenty-three years ago)

I haven't knowingly seen 3 of Ben's, and I don't like the rest.

Nick A. (Nick A.), Thursday, 23 January 2003 17:42 (twenty-three years ago)

Floela Benjamin.

Lynskey (Lynskey), Thursday, 23 January 2003 17:42 (twenty-three years ago)

Racist - what's wrong with the black girls? Huh? Huh?

Nick A. (Nick A.), Thursday, 23 January 2003 17:43 (twenty-three years ago)

James = OTM

mark p (Mark P), Thursday, 23 January 2003 17:44 (twenty-three years ago)

they don't kick it like that little white girl does

James Blount (James Blount), Thursday, 23 January 2003 17:44 (twenty-three years ago)

How come this thread is only about actresses and Mother Teresa?

N. (nickdastoor), Thursday, 23 January 2003 17:45 (twenty-three years ago)

How about Kate Adie then?

Simeon (Simeon), Thursday, 23 January 2003 17:46 (twenty-three years ago)

The Man is keeping them down.

...

And that man is R. Kelly.

(my new ILX persona = bad standup comedian)

Nick A. (Nick A.), Thursday, 23 January 2003 17:46 (twenty-three years ago)

Betty Boothroyd? (Actually only UKers will have seen her probably.)

Archel (Archel), Thursday, 23 January 2003 17:47 (twenty-three years ago)

Eleanor Roosevelt?

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Thursday, 23 January 2003 17:47 (twenty-three years ago)

I don't like Kate Aidie. She's all show and bluster and get out of my way usual correspondent, I'm award-winning.

I knew someone was about to post Betty Boothroyd! I don't like her either. I'll have to get my Dad to remind me why. She seems 'hey - cool' but when you've got beyond that there's bad things about her.

N. (nickdastoor), Thursday, 23 January 2003 17:48 (twenty-three years ago)

Eleanor Roosevelt is a good call and has reminded me of Katherine Hepburn.

N. (nickdastoor), Thursday, 23 January 2003 17:49 (twenty-three years ago)

Kate Winslet? If someone disagrees, I'll lose a lot of faith in ILX...

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Thursday, 23 January 2003 17:50 (twenty-three years ago)

no way Eleanor Roosevelt - she fucked her cousin!

Kate Winslet ROWR!

James Blount (James Blount), Thursday, 23 January 2003 17:50 (twenty-three years ago)

Charo. Toni Collette.

I hate Audrey Hepburn, too.

Arthur (Arthur), Thursday, 23 January 2003 17:51 (twenty-three years ago)

EVERYONE has 'seen' Kate Winslet!

James Blount (James Blount), Thursday, 23 January 2003 17:51 (twenty-three years ago)

Surely everyone likes Missy Eliot.

Kate WInslett has been a bad girl recently. She has nipples the size of saucers though.

Pete (Pete), Thursday, 23 January 2003 17:51 (twenty-three years ago)

I hate Elizabeth Roosevelt because she was the female president of America on Civ II, despite her never actually holding a position of power. It just made the game look dumb.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Thursday, 23 January 2003 17:52 (twenty-three years ago)

Kate WInslett has been a bad girl recently. She has nipples the size of saucers though.

And, man, does the positive outweight the negative in that sentence.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Thursday, 23 January 2003 17:52 (twenty-three years ago)

Hilary Clinton?

Ben Mott (Ben Mott), Thursday, 23 January 2003 17:53 (twenty-three years ago)

No way - she's a Yalie

James Blount (James Blount), Thursday, 23 January 2003 17:55 (twenty-three years ago)

Hilary from The Fresh Prince Of Bel Aire?

mark p (Mark P), Thursday, 23 January 2003 17:56 (twenty-three years ago)

Karyn Parsons is FOINE

James Blount (James Blount), Thursday, 23 January 2003 17:57 (twenty-three years ago)

Exactly.

mark p (Mark P), Thursday, 23 January 2003 17:58 (twenty-three years ago)

Winslet annoys me.

I think Lynskey was OTM!

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Thursday, 23 January 2003 18:03 (twenty-three years ago)

Julie Walters

Ben Mott (Ben Mott), Thursday, 23 January 2003 18:04 (twenty-three years ago)

mark p (Mark P), Thursday, 23 January 2003 18:05 (twenty-three years ago)

James Blount (James Blount), Thursday, 23 January 2003 18:05 (twenty-three years ago)

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 23 January 2003 22:35 (twenty-three years ago)

My vote is Jane Horrocks

The most sensible thing anyone has wrote on this thread.

Nicole (Nicole), Thursday, 23 January 2003 22:40 (twenty-three years ago)

It can't be Alyson Hannigan because she has sex with the Humanclick guy. Emma Caulfield is a good choice though.

Nicole (Nicole), Thursday, 23 January 2003 22:42 (twenty-three years ago)

Who is Jane Horrocks (and can we eat her)?

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 23 January 2003 22:42 (twenty-three years ago)

We'd have to ask her husband's premission.

Lara (Lara), Thursday, 23 January 2003 22:45 (twenty-three years ago)

PERMISSION. GRRR.

Lara (Lara), Thursday, 23 January 2003 22:46 (twenty-three years ago)

Persimmon?

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 23 January 2003 22:47 (twenty-three years ago)

Jane Horrocks? She's got wierd eyes, and she's virtually see through.

Celeste (Celeste), Thursday, 23 January 2003 22:49 (twenty-three years ago)

But what about her husband's persimmon? Can we eat that, at least?

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 23 January 2003 22:50 (twenty-three years ago)

Stop taking the piss. I AM TIRED!

Lara (Lara), Thursday, 23 January 2003 22:51 (twenty-three years ago)

Natalie Portman?

Girolamo Savonarola, Thursday, 23 January 2003 22:54 (twenty-three years ago)

Yeah, Natalie Portman seemed really natural and sweet when I saw her on Letterman.

I don't trust Jane Horrocks.

N. (nickdastoor), Thursday, 23 January 2003 22:56 (twenty-three years ago)

Natalie Portman = Worst actress ever

Comic book guy (Nicole), Thursday, 23 January 2003 22:56 (twenty-three years ago)

Yeah, but do you like her?

Oh, and Star Wars doesn't count. George Lucas = worst screenwriter ever.

Girolamo Savonarola, Thursday, 23 January 2003 22:58 (twenty-three years ago)

I don't like Missy Eliot.

Mary (Mary), Thursday, 23 January 2003 22:59 (twenty-three years ago)

Can you elaborate?

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 24 January 2003 00:29 (twenty-three years ago)

N, saying "people from dunedin are not allowed" is like saying, "dunedin, get here now!"

di smith (lucylurex), Friday, 24 January 2003 00:29 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh you're allowed on the thread I just meant you're not allowed to be nominated cause that would be too easy.

Kiwi, Friday, 24 January 2003 01:19 (twenty-three years ago)

Andrew I'm so glad you posted that Girl From Record Store thing. I have been obsessed with trying to find that, but it's not archived any more. I think I too have a crush on Danielle Meltzer, of the kind you have on your friend's older sister in high school. I also want to be her. Yet she is fictional *sigh*.

Anna (Anna), Friday, 24 January 2003 01:25 (twenty-three years ago)

I LOVE HER!!!!!!!!!!

I was about to say, Dan. To not know Bubble would have been a sign that you are a stranger to me.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 24 January 2003 01:51 (twenty-three years ago)

i used to be able to do the bubble voice and my mum made me put it on the answering machine and everything... how embarrassment

but anyway i really answered this thread because jel mentioned margarita pracatan! i'd totally forgotten about her but she's ace! prrraccataaaaan!

minna (minna), Friday, 24 January 2003 02:33 (twenty-three years ago)

To not know Bubble would have been a sign that you are a stranger to me.

Whew! Talk about a crisis averted...a Dan/Ned divorce would be traumatic for ile.

Nicole (Nicole), Friday, 24 January 2003 04:29 (twenty-three years ago)

Only true and obvious answer: Valerie Solanas

Justyn Dillingham (Justyn Dillingham), Friday, 24 January 2003 06:14 (twenty-three years ago)
