i.e. a week's time.

Pete and I decided tonight we should have one. Location TBA. If people can't make it it won't happen, oh well. If people can, grebt. Be prepared for a mystery FAP surprise.

Tom (Groke), Friday, 24 January 2003 01:24 (twenty-three years ago)

Hmmm, maybe I'll make it my debut...surprises do kind of scare me, though.

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Friday, 24 January 2003 07:32 (twenty-three years ago)

i can make this.

toby (tsg20), Friday, 24 January 2003 07:44 (twenty-three years ago)

Should be there.

Dr. C (Dr. C), Friday, 24 January 2003 08:12 (twenty-three years ago)

This is the bit where we speculate on the nature of the Mystery FAP Surprise.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 24 January 2003 09:43 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh, and STEVE BLUESKI TO THREAD!

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 24 January 2003 09:44 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm off to see Black Box Recorder(!) that evening, but hope to pop in at some point - centralish location, pl?

Andrew L (Andrew L), Friday, 24 January 2003 09:46 (twenty-three years ago)

If I get back from my meeting in Grantham in time then yes, I'm in.

chris (chris), Friday, 24 January 2003 09:51 (twenty-three years ago)

blueski to thread

zemko to thread

simeon bradshaw to thread

liza d*plyn to thread

gareth (gareth), Friday, 24 January 2003 09:56 (twenty-three years ago)

The location is central yes.

Tom (Groke), Friday, 24 January 2003 10:08 (twenty-three years ago)

Is it also *TOP SECRET*?

Lara (Lara), Friday, 24 January 2003 10:10 (twenty-three years ago)

excellent, I haven't had a mid-week proper drinking session for ages!

Vicky (Vicky), Friday, 24 January 2003 10:18 (twenty-three years ago)

Drinking on a schoolnight is a bad idea.

Sarah (starry), Friday, 24 January 2003 10:20 (twenty-three years ago)

Wasting all my time on ILE is a bad idea too but that's not stopping me.

Tom (Groke), Friday, 24 January 2003 10:24 (twenty-three years ago)

weekday FAPs are more preferrable. are you going to carry out yr idea of grouping ppl tom (heh)? (I can't which thread it was in which you proposed this)

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Friday, 24 January 2003 10:27 (twenty-three years ago)

Was that meant to be grouping or groping?

Lara (Lara), Friday, 24 January 2003 10:28 (twenty-three years ago)

If I had to speculate, I'd probably speculate a mystery guest IE international superstar J0hn Darn13ll3.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Friday, 24 January 2003 10:49 (twenty-three years ago)

I should quell that rumour now cos it's much better than the FAP surprise that is planned.

Numbers are important for this so no grouping. No groping either. Well not by me.

Tom (Groke), Friday, 24 January 2003 10:50 (twenty-three years ago)

Ha ha ha - hee hee hee. (Rubs hands with glee).

Pete (Pete), Friday, 24 January 2003 10:54 (twenty-three years ago)

I will attend if I am not ILL like wot I am today - real actual genuine illness combined with some drinking on a skool night has moidered me despite my guzzling of Benylin.

Sarah (starry), Friday, 24 January 2003 11:20 (twenty-three years ago)

is the surprise a water pistol?

zemko (bob), Friday, 24 January 2003 11:27 (twenty-three years ago)

Everyone should make soup to bring round to ailing Starry.

Lara (Lara), Friday, 24 January 2003 11:29 (twenty-three years ago)

That would be lovely. I am wilting badly in horrible office and think I'm going to have to go home. I wonder if I have carrots. If so I can make carrot and ginger soup which might rally me.

*faints*

Sarah (starry), Friday, 24 January 2003 11:36 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm meeting a friend for a drink in Putney, so it depends whether it's a quick one or turns into a long one.

Mark C (Mark C), Friday, 24 January 2003 11:42 (twenty-three years ago)

Go home and watch daytime teevee. I was home sick on Tuesday and the day *flew*.

Lara (Lara), Friday, 24 January 2003 11:43 (twenty-three years ago)

Clunk. Nearly fainted. Am getting timesheet signed and going home. Yuck.

Sarah (starry), Friday, 24 January 2003 11:46 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm now convinced that Starry gets evil nasty colds more than anyone else on ILE.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 24 January 2003 11:53 (twenty-three years ago)

SHe is a sickly child like Tiny Tim.

Pete (Pete), Friday, 24 January 2003 11:54 (twenty-three years ago)

I can come. Will the suprise involve anyone jumping out of a cake?

Graham (graham), Friday, 24 January 2003 12:07 (twenty-three years ago)

i'm only coming if Matt DC does...the rest of you terrify me.

(grabs the lot of you in a headlock and rubs you hair with my knuckles) - jus kiddin

stevem (blueski), Friday, 24 January 2003 12:09 (twenty-three years ago)

er, i mean to the one on the 30th - can't make tonight

how about an FAD (fancy a dance) at Buttoned Down Disco tomorrow or the following Saturday tho?

stevem (blueski), Friday, 24 January 2003 12:10 (twenty-three years ago)

is this so-called surprise related to the pub you were in last nite?

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Friday, 24 January 2003 12:30 (twenty-three years ago)

That would be telling Steve.
(Yes)

Pete (Pete), Friday, 24 January 2003 12:31 (twenty-three years ago)

Dancing girls!!

Lara (Lara), Friday, 24 January 2003 12:32 (twenty-three years ago)

also, what's on tonite?

(not that it really matters as i'm double-booked already, i'm just nosy innit)

i'm certain it's not that exciting lara...

i fear it may involve some sort of pub "game" or entertainment (of the make it yourself variety).

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Friday, 24 January 2003 12:33 (twenty-three years ago)

Mousey Mousey?!

Lara (Lara), Friday, 24 January 2003 12:35 (twenty-three years ago)

I'll come along, even though I know what the surprise is, and it scares me to the marrow.

alix (alix), Friday, 24 January 2003 12:37 (twenty-three years ago)

Steve - yep, I'll go. Although I've just realised that it will be my fourth night of midweek drinking in a row. RoXoR.

FAD the following weekend is a definite possibility as well, as the playlist looks cool, but I'm mildly worried that the place will be full of malnourished poseurs in eyeliner and wall-to-wall glitter girls.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 24 January 2003 12:39 (twenty-three years ago)

:)

gareth (gareth), Friday, 24 January 2003 12:44 (twenty-three years ago)

i'm sure it won't be anything LIKE Trash matt ;)

stevem (blueski), Friday, 24 January 2003 12:44 (twenty-three years ago)

LEAD ME TO THE MALNOURISHED POSEURS!

Lara (Lara), Friday, 24 January 2003 12:48 (twenty-three years ago)

Bagsy on the glitter girls.

Graham (graham), Friday, 24 January 2003 12:51 (twenty-three years ago)

I have a fantastic present for everyone, but unfortunately I've got a 'prior engagement'

dave q, Friday, 24 January 2003 12:51 (twenty-three years ago)

is either of them in your pants?

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Friday, 24 January 2003 13:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Please no picnics.

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Friday, 24 January 2003 13:17 (twenty-three years ago)

Please no ice-skating.

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Friday, 24 January 2003 13:18 (twenty-three years ago)

Please no Mongolian BBQ.

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Friday, 24 January 2003 13:18 (twenty-three years ago)

Bowling?

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Friday, 24 January 2003 13:18 (twenty-three years ago)

Any of those would be preferable to the nightmare I suspect TE has in store for you. Run away.

Tim (Tim), Friday, 24 January 2003 13:21 (twenty-three years ago)

Tell me tell me tell me tell me tell me tell me tell me tell me tell me tell me tell me tell me tell me tell me tell me tell me tell me tell me tell me tell me tell me tell me tell me tell me tell me tell me tell me tell me tell me tell me tell me. please

Alan (Alan), Friday, 24 January 2003 13:21 (twenty-three years ago)

i cannot make this. but i can make buttowneddowndisco on sat 1st feb...new thread?

gareth (gareth), Friday, 24 January 2003 13:25 (twenty-three years ago)

"I can hardly bear the sight of lipstick..."

Tim (Tim), Friday, 24 January 2003 13:33 (twenty-three years ago)

Elvis Costello to sing to you! Woohoo!

Oh, jebus, it's ILX Karaoke, isn't it?

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Friday, 24 January 2003 13:36 (twenty-three years ago)

Curse you Hopkins and Farrell!

Tom (Groke), Friday, 24 January 2003 13:37 (twenty-three years ago)

Karaoke = no chance

chris (chris), Friday, 24 January 2003 13:40 (twenty-three years ago)

haha I was talking about buttondowndisco

Tim (Tim), Friday, 24 January 2003 13:45 (twenty-three years ago)

You said yes already Chris, you can't change your mind now.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Friday, 24 January 2003 13:46 (twenty-three years ago)

I can when sodding Karaoke is involved

chris (chris), Friday, 24 January 2003 13:48 (twenty-three years ago)

We did FAPK before though, and it was good as I recall.

Tim (Tim), Friday, 24 January 2003 13:50 (twenty-three years ago)

karaoke eh? right, dr c, one-two-three: "there's gold in the mountains/gold in the valleys..."

Marcello Carlin, Friday, 24 January 2003 13:50 (twenty-three years ago)

A shiny fully working Minidisc recorder arrived in the post this morning. I think I best leave it at home though.

Graham (graham), Friday, 24 January 2003 13:51 (twenty-three years ago)

But Chris its near enough my work to give you your dartboard.

Pete (Pete), Friday, 24 January 2003 13:52 (twenty-three years ago)

this is very tempting, but are you going to book somewhere "private" a la downstairs at the GHS to avoid getting broken into multiple pieces by impatient pub "regulars"?

Marcello Carlin, Friday, 24 January 2003 13:54 (twenty-three years ago)

I may be able to make this, actually.

J0hn Darn1elle (J0hn Darn1elle), Friday, 24 January 2003 13:56 (twenty-three years ago)

Ptee, that is tempting, I may have to control my curmudgeonliness in regards to karaoke. (why do I dislike it so?)

chris (chris), Friday, 24 January 2003 13:56 (twenty-three years ago)

HURRAY. Pint Pot?

Alan (Alan), Friday, 24 January 2003 13:59 (twenty-three years ago)

Yes Alan. No, we are crashing a public karaoke - but man alive if it hasn't got an even more comprehensive set of choices than the KoC even had. (Though this might be due to the Karaoke man playing all the songs on a cheap casio synth).

Karaoke doesn't really strt til 9 / 9.30-ish so you can always make a quick exit.

Pete (Pete), Friday, 24 January 2003 14:08 (twenty-three years ago)

ha ha Tom that was going to be a hell of a surprise. we can put Tim up to 'sing' some diamanda galas.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Friday, 24 January 2003 14:09 (twenty-three years ago)

Yes.

Disadvantages - pub is pretty awful. Layout of pub not ideal for karaoke.

Advantages - open late so no Spanish madness. Karaoke. With great choices. Layout of pub actually quite ideal for a large group of karaoke-ers cheering their mates on and preventing angry other punters from tearing said mates asunder. (This was what was happening last night with a bunch of American girls passing the mic).

Tom (Groke), Friday, 24 January 2003 14:12 (twenty-three years ago)

It's not really an 'angry other punters' sort of pub though is it?

(Admittedly the other punters hadn't been subjected to one of PB's 'voices' (cf D. Galas) when I was there.)

Tim (Tim), Friday, 24 January 2003 14:15 (twenty-three years ago)

karaoke eh? right, dr c, one-two-three: "there's gold in the mountains/gold in the valleys..."

Do you think they'll have the Joe Meek karaoke book? I fancy crack at 'Johnny Remember Me' (except the Soprano part)

Where is this pub?

Dr. C (Dr. C), Friday, 24 January 2003 14:25 (twenty-three years ago)

abt halfway up tottenham court rd.

hmmm - "angry other punters" - not so good.

Marcello Carlin, Friday, 24 January 2003 14:40 (twenty-three years ago)

oh WOW, i thought it was going to be something rubbidge like dual bar billiards table or such nonce-sense, i haven't karaokied in aaaaaaaaaaagges.

"karaoke man playing all the songs on a cheap casio synth"

hmm, is this a baran lie i see before me???

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Friday, 24 January 2003 16:45 (twenty-three years ago)

That's what it sounded like.

Pete (Pete), Friday, 24 January 2003 16:56 (twenty-three years ago)

Marcello dont worry there weren't really angry other punters - though as Tim says they weren't exactly being tested. There's quite an efficient bouncer too. All I meant is the linear pub shape means that the karaoke singer sees all their supportive mates in front of them, blocking the view of the howling, booing mob behind.

Tom (Groke), Friday, 24 January 2003 17:36 (twenty-three years ago)

I'll probably come along, whether I sing or not is another question. It's best if I don't think about this as I'm more likely to wuss out that way, but I'd like to sing Guilty by Alice Cooper if poss.

Who wants to go BOWLING?

jel -- (jel), Friday, 24 January 2003 18:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I've told some of you this before. The only 'compliment' I have ever received on my singing was from Andrew L's former flatmate, comparing me to Andrew L by saying "At least it sounds as if you're aware that there are different notes."

Andrew L and I are both planning to come.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Friday, 24 January 2003 20:54 (twenty-three years ago)

i always want to go bowling jel...where's the best alley tho? bloody North Harrow for me, or the 24 hour one in Heathrow - no option for most ILXers i figure!

stevem (blueski), Friday, 24 January 2003 21:01 (twenty-three years ago)

why the hell do i keep using exclamation marks all the time now?

stevem (blueski), Friday, 24 January 2003 21:02 (twenty-three years ago)

have been bowling only once but i really enjoyed it. don't know whether i'll evah have the time evah tho'.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Friday, 24 January 2003 21:02 (twenty-three years ago)

stevem, I know that North Harrow place only too well. Where are you, if I may ask?

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Saturday, 25 January 2003 19:09 (twenty-three years ago)

The bowling alley at Park Royal would be accessible to ILXeRs, I reckon.

jel -- (jel), Saturday, 25 January 2003 20:37 (twenty-three years ago)

jel, they have a great DJ there sometimes. And glow in the dark stuff. I just drive up the North Circular.

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Saturday, 25 January 2003 20:46 (twenty-three years ago)

Isn't there one somewhere around Tottenham?

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Saturday, 25 January 2003 21:08 (twenty-three years ago)

oh yeh, totally forgot about Park Royal...its all just ammunition for everyone to say how shite West London is tho (i suppose theyre right, feh)

nordicskillz i am in the suburban 'hell' of ruislip, you?

stevem (blueski), Sunday, 26 January 2003 17:23 (twenty-three years ago)

park royal can be a bit terrifying! I saw this dude walking round with a baseball bat once.

jel -- (jel), Sunday, 26 January 2003 17:32 (twenty-three years ago)

I know Ruislip-I'm in the palatial Stanmore/Edgware area, also known as "birthplace of the dream".

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Sunday, 26 January 2003 18:24 (twenty-three years ago)

I still fully intend to come, but must be careful as competing for "big money prizes" (3 grand, apparently) the next day and need to stay sharp.

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Sunday, 26 January 2003 19:05 (twenty-three years ago)

wicked, i can meet you at the pub then watch you on telly next day! oh but i dont suppose its live eh? :(

stevem (blueski), Sunday, 26 January 2003 20:01 (twenty-three years ago)

maybe it is, I'm not saying...

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Sunday, 26 January 2003 20:35 (twenty-three years ago)

Nordicskillz - trust me, after one FAP you will know enough useless trivia to KICK THAT QUIZ's ARSE.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 27 January 2003 11:45 (twenty-three years ago)

Bowling = Rowan's at Finsbury Park - but we will leave that for another day.

Pete (Pete), Monday, 27 January 2003 12:09 (twenty-three years ago)

So, uhhhhh, where is it? What time?

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Tuesday, 28 January 2003 07:38 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh yeah. The Pub is The Pint Pot - middle of Tottenham Court Road (nearest tube Goodge Street but pretty close to Warren Street.

Timings I don't know - I won't get out of a seminar til 7:30. If you look young bring ID - the bouncer is ssstrict.

Pete (Pete), Tuesday, 28 January 2003 11:58 (twenty-three years ago)

I will start a new official thread Pete. I'll be there from 6 I think.

Tom (Groke), Tuesday, 28 January 2003 12:06 (twenty-three years ago)

''Timings I don't know - I won't get out of a seminar til 7:30. If you look young bring ID - the bouncer is ssstrict.''

I won't shave heh! (I have been barred before because of this)

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Tuesday, 28 January 2003 12:24 (twenty-three years ago)

Given how very, very close this is to me workplace, I'll be there about 5.02 (except I might go to eat first, in fact - depends if anyone else is liable to show before 6).

I have had flu since the end of last week, and won't be karaokeing unless I have recovered significantly.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Tuesday, 28 January 2003 18:41 (twenty-three years ago)
