When was Miss Kier in your life?

And how long did you leave it to tell her that she would never have a second hit?

1990, same as everyone else I suppose. They did a single called "Power of Love" didn't they? I think so anyway. There were too many songs called that already.

How well did their album "World Clique" sell?

easily into triple figures.

the Russian guy did a really bad remix of New Order's Confusion as I recall.

A while ago I was in the pub with workmates and someone had one of those things which went WooooooooooooooooooOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOooooooooooooow, which reminded me of Deee-Lite.

In the mid-Eighties. I used to always see her at the Pyramid on Sunday (Whispers!-the drag night) with her little gang--David LaChapelle, Josh Jordan, Billy Beyond. They were always wearing Bodymap--they were a cute bunch. I was happy for her when they hit big and surprised it didn't last any longer. I blame grunge. Or maybe the second album really was that dreadful.

a studio engineer once played me the DAT of a song that he'd produced by Stock, Hausen & Walkman with Lady Miss Kier on vocals. it sounded ace! i've never heard it again or even know what its called.. or if it was ever released even. does anyone have any info?

I was just listening to them again while staying in Berlin, and it made me melancholy. That Daisy Age positivity, the idea of the 'world clique', the happy cultural relativism of 'depending on how you see a thing...', the globalism of their multi-racial line-up, all seem far, far away in the age of Bush and Bin Laden.

Checking out some Miss Kier websites, it looks like she's living in the UK now, DJing here and there, and having to shelf her solo album indefinitely.

Also depressing were the house piano sequencer lines people used back then.

Only Towa Tei is delivering on the promise of Deee-Lite (his Sweet Robots Against The Machine album of last year was pretty good), which is odd since he seems to have been a rather marginal member. It's a bit like Barry Adamson ending up the most famous member of Magazine.

Momus strikes a real chord with me for once! Maybe we are all getting old and fuzzy minded, though. 1990 was the year Iraq invaded Kuwait.

The 12" of 'Power of Love' has some great mixes on it. I loved that song. Preferred it to 'Groove in the Heart' usually. 'Deep Ending' is a great closer too - made me cry when I first heard it!

what about 'Picnic (or was it Party?) In The Summertime', 'Good Beat' and 'Runaway' - other MINOR Deee-Lite hits

Miss Kier went on to record a drum n' bass track with A Guy Called Gerald I think. The DJ Towa Tei continues to make quirky dance albums with heavy bossanova and jazz samples - i think he's done four solo albums now - some nice tracks on the first two.

I have it. Hurry To Go Easy on the 2000 album Essence. She's also on another D&B track I have, Accelerate on Jonny L's great 1998 album Magnetic (one of my three favourite D&B albums).
