Name and discuss your favorite De Laurentiis production, and explain why you think he is so underrated.

Dune. I underrate too much nepotism.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Saturday, 25 January 2003 02:54 (twenty-three years ago)

It would have been amusing if this had stayed in the 'unanswered questions' file. (Sorry, I know someone said this before in another thread but I can't remember who)

Justyn Dillingham (Justyn Dillingham), Saturday, 25 January 2003 03:35 (twenty-three years ago)

Right, and now that someone's answered it, all the humor has just completely faded. Whatever. Fuck you people. Conan the Barbarian.

He's underrated because they never got around to making a third Conan film.

Blue Velvet

Many, many great (and not-so-great) productions.

I almost forgot: back in the day he produced Fellini's Nights of Cabiria and later Michael Mann's Manhunter. So far as I can tell those are distinct exceptions to the rule.

Oh, just noticed that link. Thank you.

Flash Gordon!

Ben Mott (Ben Mott), Saturday, 25 January 2003 19:17 (twenty-three years ago)

The Dead Zone, by default. Though I have a soft spot for some of his other films, like the unusually quirky Assassins. There's a lot of other movies where his name shows up in the credits (thanks to companies named after him that he sold). Like Kuffs, for instance. Like Kuffs.

"to crush your enemies, to see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentations of the women"

that line only achieves its true power when spoken by arnold s.

RIP, many great films owe their existence to him, King Kong (1976) not being among their number admittedly.

A Dino De Laurentiis produced film was a sure sign of quality when I was a kid. Loved pretty much every one I saw.

RIP - thanks for Dune, Flash Gordon and Barbarella!

Took a look at his filmography, and my two favorite are The Dead Zone for sure, and probably Serpico after that. Whose disaster films were better, his or Irwin Allen's?
