Fucking goddamned MP3 audio problems (HELP)

OK, have you ever downloaded an MP3 and played it only to have these loud chirps and hiccups and squeaks and snaps constantly pop up in the middle of the song? For some reason I'm getting this problem when transferring MP3s onto a CD-R and listening to said CD-R on my MP3-compatible Discman. It doesn't happen with every file - just some of them, some of the folders, and indiscriminate when it comes to bitrates and such. What the hell is going on here?

(Huh. After listening to the CD-R on my computer, it appears that the problem may be with the discman. But why?)

try burning the discs at a slower speed

There's a thought. Time to test that theory.

(Good thing my 't' key is properly functioning.)

The original mp3s are corrupted.

How? I ripped some of them myself and they sound fine on my hard drive.

Could it be due to some ID3 tag weirdness?
