It's good. Spielberg is a great filmmaker, I don't really get it when he is called "sentimental" because it is obvious that the sentinment comes from a very deep (dark?) place, and it doesn't seem crass at all. And it seems to miss the point to call his work immature.

I think it's a very good film. It might even be the only Spielberg film I unproblematically like. Spielberg plays to his strengths this time, as the Holocaust is the kind of subject that invites you to put the audience through an emotional wringer.

what about the end scene, where the survivors walk up to camera with the actors who played them? what did people think of that? I know it was widely criticised for sentimentality, but it was a good way of showing that the events in the film (or ones similar to them) happenned in real life to real people.

But I'm sensitive, I'm caring. Isn't Shinder's List a brilliant film?

twelve years pass...

I've just said this on facebook but it bears repeating. I was on the bus (a local city bus not a coach, ie not a long journey) and a man next to me was watching something on his phone (sans headphones, which is what initially drew my attention) and I looked across and he was watching Schindler's List!

This is my favorite caper film.

This and The Terminal are indictments of structural violence unrivalled by any American mainstream movie since the Reagan era.
