getting felt up by your GP: is this normal?

I just started a new medical plan and today was my first visit to their doctor. The checkup was pretty routine: eyes, ears, throat, blood pressure, same as every other checkup I've had done. But then he told me to lie back and lift up my bra. I felt kinda weird about it. I didn't realize breast exams were part of the standard package now.

I have never been 'felt up' by my GP but when I went for my last smear test I forgot that I had done something 'interesting' with my pubic hair and was shocked when my (male) doctor exclaimed 'Oooh!' na his face turned red.

I think he should have warned you and explained what it was for. It probably wasn't perverted - doctors can be just a bit useless at realising that it's not just 'another human body' to the patient.

What, did you rig it up so it sprayed Tabasco sauce?

*blank stare*

What what was for?

Lara (Lara), Monday, 27 January 2003 23:25 (twenty-three years ago)

I think the doctor was a little shocked at the "Eat at Joe's -->" neon sign she had.

"it" = your pubic hair. You said you did something interesting with it, I was just taking a guess as to what would turn someone's face red. (You don't have to say what you actually did, natch.)

If you get felt up by your dentist, that's not good. (I learned this on Golden Girls.)

Breast exams are part of the standard physical/checkup, so no need to worry!

i avoid male doctors like the plague. i don't think i would mind much if a female doctor felt me up.

di smith (lucylurex), Monday, 27 January 2003 23:47 (twenty-three years ago)

Male doctors are gentle in a way that female doctors never are.

Lara (Lara), Monday, 27 January 2003 23:49 (twenty-three years ago)

...something 'interesting' with my pubic hair...

I still have nightmares/fantasies from when an ex did the "heart" shaped second haircut for Valentine's Day.

"Oooh" indeed!

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Tuesday, 28 January 2003 00:11 (twenty-three years ago)

I AM NOT YOUR EX!

TACK-EEEE!!

Lara (Lara), Tuesday, 28 January 2003 00:12 (twenty-three years ago)

Don't keep us guessing, Lara.

Paul Eater (eater), Tuesday, 28 January 2003 00:16 (twenty-three years ago)

oddly, in public life, she was not tacky at all, in fact she was quite the opposite, very prim/tailored etc. (I found the heart a bit tacky myself).

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Tuesday, 28 January 2003 00:18 (twenty-three years ago)

I tried to make a public/pubic italic text-joke there, but it didn't really work. please carry on.

I am 'a creature like no other', mysterious and I play by THE RULES.
