Throwtogether meals you're forced to make on the eve of moving out of your place

Just discovered that a chopped up potato, stir fried with salt and pepper, then mixed with hummus after served on a plate is actually very tasty!

What other accidental gems of cooking have you discovered when forced to throw odd things together on the days before you move from your place?

donut bitch (donut), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 00:06 (twenty-three years ago)

Pasta and some good pesto and nothing else.

Lara (Lara), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 00:08 (twenty-three years ago)

that potato concoction sounds inedible! pasta and pesto go together easy though.

Maria (Maria), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 00:09 (twenty-three years ago)

Hell, just pasta and oil is all you really need...

Mr. Diamond (diamond), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 00:11 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh, we're very posh round my way.

Yeah, that's my point. Huddah though... but I decided to take the risk with the leftover combo I had, and *bling* tasty dish.

one of my friends ate a bunch of styrofoam that was lying around once when he was hungry, he said it was pretty filling (i'm not making this up)

Crackers with pasta sauce. A real low of my student days.

DB for the Food Channel now.

I prefer ordering out.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 17:59 (twenty-three years ago)

Exactly. Who cooks when you can order out?

Mary (Mary), Thursday, 30 January 2003 01:31 (twenty-three years ago)

maybe DB felt bad about throwing out food and/or would rather save the $$$.

i made makeshift cereal out of tortilla chips and soy milk. it wasn't THAT bad...

gygax!, Thursday, 30 January 2003 01:35 (twenty-three years ago)

a few days ago i tried to fry onions with lemon juice and a bunch of completely random spices and some oil in a cast iron pan. i'm not sure why but it turned out incredibly vile. don't do it.

Maria (Maria), Thursday, 30 January 2003 03:42 (twenty-three years ago)

The more recent experience for me was: Food your ex concocts when you suddenly realize it's Christmas Day, no one's gone shopping in weeks, and every food-vending store withing walking distance is closed except 7-Eleven.

It involved rice, tomato sauce, Thai peanut sauce, corn, cheddar cheese, and Walla Walla asparagus. It was almost yummy -- maybe one less ingredient (tomato sauce, would be guess, or the cheddar) would have made it good.

Chris P (Chris P), Thursday, 30 January 2003 05:16 (twenty-three years ago)

Last night I had a toasted cheese sandwich with Honey and Mustard salad dressing on and half a bag of Haribo sour mix for dessert.

Lara (Lara), Thursday, 30 January 2003 10:01 (twenty-three years ago)

DB and I should have a cooking show called "Bling!" Emma can also co-host.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 30 January 2003 14:30 (twenty-three years ago)

Dan can be the comic relief and do his thing with a bag of cucumbers, bananas etc

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 30 January 2003 14:33 (twenty-three years ago)

My humor is much more urbane and varied than stupid dick jokes! (There are also stupid pussy jokes.)

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 30 January 2003 14:43 (twenty-three years ago)

DO NOT EAT DAN'S PIES.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 30 January 2003 19:35 (twenty-three years ago)

If you do, you BETTAH HAVE MY MONEY.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 30 January 2003 19:44 (twenty-three years ago)

In the future, all threads will end like this.

mark p (Mark P), Thursday, 30 January 2003 19:46 (twenty-three years ago)

Let us hope.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 30 January 2003 19:47 (twenty-three years ago)

all-canned-goods-in-the-pantry chili. Results may vary.

felicity (felicity), Thursday, 30 January 2003 22:04 (twenty-three years ago)

After reliving the thong threads, I misread that as "panty".

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 30 January 2003 22:08 (twenty-three years ago)

The results of all-canned-goods-in-the-panty chili may surprise you with their consistency.

felicity (felicity), Thursday, 30 January 2003 22:13 (twenty-three years ago)

Ha!

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 30 January 2003 22:36 (twenty-three years ago)

ROTFLMAO

hahaha, I was looking for a moving thread to sigh on or whatever about moving (and the possible horror it may be) tomorrow, but I think this one is the best. Yeah, what the hell am I going to eat tonight? I already ate the box of macaroni and cheese for lunch, so as to finish up the milk (save for a bit for coffee tomorrow morning) and the frozen green beans. Part of me is just, like, fuck it, pizza and beer, repeat tomorrow post-move. Another part of me wants a peanut butter and jam sandwich and some fruit. If only for the expense of the former, I will eat the latter.

Also: I have 40 boxes, 4 clothes/duvet-stuffed garbage bags + 4 bags, and 10 pieces of furniture, including a couch. How did this happen?! And will it all fit in the truck?!

rrrobyn (rrrobyn), Wednesday, 31 August 2005 21:50 (twenty years ago)

p.s. I am not eating the can of sardines I bought one day 2 years ago for no good reason.
