I get about four to five hours sleep a night and so should be dead before February is out. Do you sleep much?

Lara (Lara), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 12:11 (twenty-three years ago)

i had bad insomnia last night - my head felt heavy or maybe the pillow was too hard i dunno, plus i have a really small bed which doesnt help...i spent hours thinking of trivial threads to start on ILX and ILM...eventually fell asleep about 3.30am while the bloody milkman could be heard trundling along outside in his little van

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 12:16 (twenty-three years ago)

From 4-5am til 1-3pm, yeah. I haven't been able to handle 4-5 hours a night since I turned 23 or so, I used to hardly even notice.

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 12:19 (twenty-three years ago)

I went to be before midnight last night for the first time in about two years. It was odd.

Graham (graham), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 12:32 (twenty-three years ago)

I sleep badly because I think of all things I have to do at work.

then at work I am too tired to do the things I have to do.

Repeat till my nervous breakdown.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 12:49 (twenty-three years ago)

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 12:51 (twenty-three years ago)

Usually a good seven at least. This week - three on Sunday night, five on Monday and three again last night.

N. (nickdastoor), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 12:58 (twenty-three years ago)

haha Gareth in that case I'm not surprised you haven't been sleeping much

Tim (Tim), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 13:02 (twenty-three years ago)

I went to be before midnight last night for the first time in about two years. It was odd.

Do you usually turn into a pumpkin?

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 13:44 (twenty-three years ago)

The title makes me think of the Enter Sandman video.

EXIT LIGHT! ENTER NIGHT!

I have been sleeping fine lately but I did have a few years of horrible nightmares a while back.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 13:52 (twenty-three years ago)

Metallica? This thread has hit rock bottom.

Lara (Lara), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 14:13 (twenty-three years ago)

Sorry. I was 14. I didn't know. And now it will be forever stuck in my brain.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 14:15 (twenty-three years ago)

You *need* to speak to a professional about this Sarah.

Lara (Lara), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 14:19 (twenty-three years ago)

Ahhhrhgh!! Snakes on the bed! Snakes on the bed!

Sarah McLusky (coco), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 14:22 (twenty-three years ago)

And soon.

Lara (Lara), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 15:26 (twenty-three years ago)

Pray the lord my soul to keep.

Graham (graham), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 15:30 (twenty-three years ago)

If I should die before I wake,

Sarah McLusky (coco), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 15:31 (twenty-three years ago)

I pray the Lord my soul to keep.

Lara (Lara), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 15:32 (twenty-three years ago)

[That was beautiful, guys]

Lara (Lara), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 15:33 (twenty-three years ago)

bloody biblebashers.

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 15:35 (twenty-three years ago)

That sounds violent, Ronan.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 15:37 (twenty-three years ago)

You need more Metallica in your life Ronan.

Graham (graham), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 15:38 (twenty-three years ago)

I pray the lord my soul to take.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 15:49 (twenty-three years ago)

That song is great and I don't care who complains. The video these days is el goofo.

Usually six to seven hours a night. Works for me!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 15:59 (twenty-three years ago)

That was my own take Andrew. He can keep it for a while but he's not having anything for nothing. Your strict Catholicism prevents you from taking this stance.

Lara (Lara), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 16:09 (twenty-three years ago)

I am getting a bit worried about this. It could be a medication thing (antibiotics? or antidepressants?) but I have been sleeping for about 10 hours every weeknight (always late for work) and about 14 hours Fri and Sat. Has anyone else had this? or ideas about what I can do about it?

isadora (isadora), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 19:48 (twenty-three years ago)

I usually sleep about 8 hours, and take an afternoon nap whenever possible.

jel -- (jel), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 19:55 (twenty-three years ago)

(metallica are cool, I like metallica, not as good the 'deth or slayer though)

jel -- (jel), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 19:56 (twenty-three years ago)

My problem is insomnia but enough of me! I very rarely suffer from real 'low' periods. I do sleep a lot when I am feeling down though. It usually takes me ages to get to sleep but once I do, I'm gone for hours and hours. I figure your problems must be borne in your body and mind's response to taxing times - you talk about anti-biotics and painkillers.

I had glandular fever when I was at university. At the time, I could hardly walk I was so weak and jaded. With regard to the sleep issues my doctor recommended that I go to bed at the same time every night and got up at the same time every morning (difficult, I know) so that my body might get used to the routine and I could gradually get myself back to 'normal'. Do you reckon something like this would work for you?

Cartesian Dualists can stay away from this thread.

Lara (Lara), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 19:56 (twenty-three years ago)

Where do you stand on the Quireboys?

Lara (Lara), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 19:57 (twenty-three years ago)

I sleep 12am - 8am usually. Add in a 2pm-4pm, and that's like a perfect day.

jel -- (jel), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 19:57 (twenty-three years ago)

I go to bed at 12am and get up at 5:30 M-F. I have a problem with sleep.

Chris V. (Chris V), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 19:59 (twenty-three years ago)

(I saw the quireboys supporting the Beach Boys and Status Quo in 2001, they were a bit rub, what was that song they had?)(I have a signed album cover of the Little Angel's Jam, it's just the cover as I didn't want to but the record)

jel -- (jel), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 20:02 (twenty-three years ago)

You didn't want to 'but' the record? You're no Becky Lucas...

Lara (Lara), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 20:04 (twenty-three years ago)

I think I may have been bitten by a Tetse (please don't misread this, I beg of you) fly as I sleep at least 8.5 hours a night and 10 hours on the weekends.

lawrence kansas (lawrence kansas), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 20:16 (twenty-three years ago)

Hey Lawrence. Did you mean Tse Tse? Do they inject you with Nyquil (?) when they bite or what?

Lara (Lara), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 20:18 (twenty-three years ago)

I am almost always sleepy, even though I get my solid 8.

Most I ever slept was at the start of my senior year of high school. I was really depressed so I just slept all the time. Doctor said it was MONO. Whatevs. I missed 2 weeks straight of school.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 20:21 (twenty-three years ago)

yes I meant tse tse. I thought they caused sleeping sickness or maybe it caused the inability to spell their name correctly thus throwing physicians off their trail.

lawrence kansas (lawrence kansas), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 20:23 (twenty-three years ago)

My longest sleep was about eight years ago when I arrived home one Sunday morning (after a BIG Saturday night) and went to bed... to eventually wake up on Tuesay afternoon.

Apparently my flat mate checked a couple of time to see if I was still breathing.

Lara (Lara), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 20:24 (twenty-three years ago)

Maybe they do cause sleeping sickness - I think I remember something about them in Kipling's Kim. On the whole, I am very ignorant when it comes to flies though.

Lara (Lara), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 20:26 (twenty-three years ago)

I had mono/glandular fever in 8th grade and managed to spin it out into a whole semester of gym avoidance ('Ms Sickels, the infection spread to my spleen - if I go in that water and have a relapse, on your head be it').

I got mono in 8th grade because I was staying up until 2am to write and waking up at 5.30am so I could have another hour or so before school.

suzy (suzy), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 20:28 (twenty-three years ago)

It wasn't Kim. It was either Songs of Enchantment or The Famished Road.

What were we talking about again?

Lara (Lara), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 20:28 (twenty-three years ago)

I got it because I am unlucky.

Lara (Lara), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 20:29 (twenty-three years ago)

Now I lay me down to sleep,
I pray the lord my soul to keep,
If I should die before I wake
I pray the lord my toys to break
So none of the other kids can use them.
Amen.

"Prayer of a Selfish Child" - Shel Silverstein

I'm Passing Open Windows (Ms Laura), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 23:06 (twenty-three years ago)

Part of the reason my day is going to miserably is due to sleep deprivation.

Nicole (Nicole), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 23:09 (twenty-three years ago)

So I was right! Andrew Farrell is in for a double-dose of kicking.

[I'll be giving it welly]

Lara (Lara), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 23:11 (twenty-three years ago)

I can't sleep worth a damn lately - usually about 3-4 hours a night, except on Friday nights when my mom babysits - then I can sleep for 10 hours at a stretch.

luna (luna.c), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 23:12 (twenty-three years ago)

I tend to stay up until 2 or 3 AM every week night. I stay up even after I've become so exhausted that I can't even cook without nodding off. Something to do with not feeling productive during the day, and having horrible fears coursing through my brain once I place my head on a pillow. I am always tired and I think my lack of notable achievements in the past few years is a result of my horrible sleep patterns. Now I learn I will die young too boot, great.

Amateurist (amateurist), Thursday, 30 January 2003 03:52 (twenty-three years ago)

I should add that I wake up around 7:30, so that's about 4 or 5 hours a night. I make it up (sometimes) on the weekend, but that's not good for me either, it seems.
