Woolies Pick 'n' Mix C/D?

I’ve just been to Woolies to get a Pick 'n' Mix for the first time in ages, thought I'd treat myself, but the "grown up" sweeties were all pants. The chocolates are all really cheap own brand types and there wasn't much of a selection. Am I getting old? Was it always like this and it just seemed bigger and shinier when I was wee?

What's yer favourite pick 'n' mix sweetie?

Pick and mix is for sweets, not chocolates. Pick and mix chocolates is a rubby idea.

Get sweets.

I went to the kids section, it was much better, I got shrimps and cola cubes and jelly bears and fried eggs and.....

What's your take on Pick'n'Mix mini cans of drink Nick? Oh how small Graham giggled with joy at the sight.

Graham (graham), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 13:49 (twenty-three years ago)

when i wz wee pick'n'mix meant BEING GRATEFUL WITH WHAT YOU WERE GIVEN!! (= handful of dry beech nuts, some gorse prickles and half a dead bumblebee)

Did you live in a shoebox at the bottom of a lake mark?

smee (smee), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 13:55 (twenty-three years ago)

hangonhangonhangon: GROWN UP SWEETS! What sort of rub is that?

RickyT (RickyT), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 13:56 (twenty-three years ago)

I never saw the appeal of pick and mix airline size cans of pop. Maybe I was too old for it by the time they appeared.

N. (nickdastoor), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 13:57 (twenty-three years ago)

What other things should come 'pick n mix'?

N. (nickdastoor), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 13:58 (twenty-three years ago)

Well, there's a "Kid's Selection" so I'm assuming the others are just for grown ups....

Pick 'n' Mix condoms?

smee (smee), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 13:58 (twenty-three years ago)

Lava? You had Lava? Pure luxury!

smee (smee), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 14:02 (twenty-three years ago)

I didn't either Nick. I just thought it was neat and clever and envied the kids that had enough pocket money and thurst for three cans of drink at once.

Graham (graham), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 14:10 (twenty-three years ago)

The Woolies Pick n' Mix used to be a shoplifting initiation rite around my neck of the woods.

Lynskey (Lynskey), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 15:17 (twenty-three years ago)

Shame on you Lynskey, I blame you for it's deteriorated selection!

smee (smee), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 15:21 (twenty-three years ago)

chris (chris), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 15:22 (twenty-three years ago)

Not another Pic'n'mix thread where I mention pic'n'mix teeth at woolworths.

Pete (Pete), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 15:45 (twenty-three years ago)

Teeth?

smee (smee), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 15:46 (twenty-three years ago)

Haribo pick-n-mix is at every German street festival ever, and that is a very good thing.

Colin Meeder (Mert), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 16:29 (twenty-three years ago)

Smee: see this thread for a slightly more detailed explaination: I am going to Woolworths now

Pete (Pete), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 16:35 (twenty-three years ago)

There's no pick n mix like Woolworth new pick n mix

Ad Catchline (daveb), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 16:35 (twenty-three years ago)

smee (smee), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 17:25 (twenty-three years ago)

The Arsemonkey got some p'n'm shrimp yesterday. I had the fear, and therefore did not have any. Neither have I had pick and mix for yonks due to not bothering to go to Brixton even when I need to bcz I know I wd not spend money on things I need (shelvescleaningproduckslights) but on aforesaid pick and mix counter.

Sarah (starry), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 17:28 (twenty-three years ago)

five years pass...

I can't say I'm surprised or sad that Woolworth's has now gone to the wall. Nor MFI for that matter.

Become crap, cling like limpets to the old ways and fail to keep up, and as a business you deserve what's coming to you.

Reading Woolies was always packed, even recently.

I assume they're still open?

Mark G, Thursday, 27 November 2008 09:23 (seventeen years ago)

Shops are still open (though I noticed passing through Clapham Junction last weekend that the one there has been turned into a Waitrose) but I've no idea for how long and obviously with the administrators in any "new" stock is highly unlikely.

They were good for light bulbs, I'll give them that.
