Inspired, in part, by David's aside. How close is the nearest horse to you?

Lara (Lara), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 13:59 (twenty-three years ago)

in London you are never more than 4 miles from a tiger

Alan (Alan), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 14:00 (twenty-three years ago)

just around the corner. in bruges we have horse carriages which transport tourists around showing all the *interesting* places.

nathalie (nathalie), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 14:00 (twenty-three years ago)

That may well be true

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 14:00 (twenty-three years ago)

There used to be one in the room next door to me at work but now I have to walk 3 minutes down the road, which is annoying.

N. (nickdastoor), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 14:01 (twenty-three years ago)

about 20 feet, my office has two of them.

Chris V. (Chris V), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 14:02 (twenty-three years ago)

Unless someone has one in a private stable somewhere nearby I guess the nearest to me would be the Lea Bridge Riding Centre.

David (David), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 14:02 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm quite close to a school, where there's bound to be one of those horses you vault over.

and as we're at the edge of the business park, we're near some houses which undoubtably have clothes horses.

MarkH (MarkH), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 14:03 (twenty-three years ago)

A matter of cm beneath my crotch.

I remain, as ever, on horseback.

Horseback Boy (RickyT), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 14:03 (twenty-three years ago)

I suspect its a police horse, somewhere near Charing Cross station or therabouts.

in London you are never more than 4 miles from a tiger

Is this true? Is there a tiger in London zoo? It may well be true, but it just feels wrong.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 14:04 (twenty-three years ago)

In Oxford you're never far from a pint of Tiger. The white Hart and the Brickworks both sell it.

MarkH (MarkH), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 14:05 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm probably a mile from an equestrian centre (not sure if there are any horses at home). I'm close to a pub called the Horse and Hound though.

Lara (Lara), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 14:06 (twenty-three years ago)

The Horse and Hound doesn't serve Tiger because it doesn't exist.

Lara (Lara), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 14:07 (twenty-three years ago)

I could probably find one in about 10 minutes but it would def require driving.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 14:08 (twenty-three years ago)

Diving?

RSPCA to thread!

Lara (Lara), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 14:09 (twenty-three years ago)

The Horse and Hound doesn't serve Tiger because it doesn't exist.

Eh? what's this then?

That's Tiger Beer.

Lara (Lara), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 14:11 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm about a quarter of a mile from a Sea Horse:

Tim (Tim), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 14:11 (twenty-three years ago)

erm, did you mean the *pub* doesn't exist then Lara? I'm confused.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 14:14 (twenty-three years ago)

About 30 seconds away. Walking.

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 14:15 (twenty-three years ago)

Yes.

Lara (Lara), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 14:16 (twenty-three years ago)

"how far am I from a jackass" is a more pertinent question.

g.cannon (gcannon), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 14:21 (twenty-three years ago)

"being"

g.cannon (gcannon), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 14:22 (twenty-three years ago)

they used to have a few horses roaming around the back end of the fields near my house - maybe they still do, if so i'm only about 30 mins walk from a horse :)

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 14:24 (twenty-three years ago)

There's a horse dealers in Binsey, about 2 miles from here.

Graham (graham), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 14:27 (twenty-three years ago)

The police keep their horses about 30 minutes from here.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 14:50 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh my God, I really bothered to look that up.

Graham (graham), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 14:56 (twenty-three years ago)

There are horsies on Wimbledon Common and Richmond Park, so I'd say no more than 2 miles from me.

Mark C (Mark C), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 15:28 (twenty-three years ago)

just when I was abt to be impressed that you were acquainting yrself with the finer points of Oxford incredibly quickly, Graham.

I wonder if Wombles are afeared of horses.....

MarkH (MarkH), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 15:30 (twenty-three years ago)

Probably very close by...police horses ride past every morning and evening.

suzy (suzy), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 15:33 (twenty-three years ago)

There used to be a few horses out on the east side of the campus, but since the redevelopment I fear they are somewhere else or else in someone's Jello. Alas.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 15:53 (twenty-three years ago)

No more than a mile I would guess, though I do often see them going past my house. More pertinently I'm only about a mile from a buffalo farmer most of which are dairy, but I can recommend the buffalo burgers.

Another farmer within a mile has wallabies. How you milk a wallaby I'd hate to guess.

Billy Dods (Billy Dods), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 16:05 (twenty-three years ago)

There's a stable down the block and across the street from the building I live in. So, a stone's throw away, literally.

JD (JND), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 16:09 (twenty-three years ago)

(Note: I have never thrown a stone at a horse.)

JD (JND), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 16:21 (twenty-three years ago)

Quite a long way, sadly. I just don't measure up.

Mooro (Mooro), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 16:22 (twenty-three years ago)

There's a stable for mounted police's horses about a mile over in Rock Creek Park. But I see hoofprints when I go over to Glover Park, which means that Park Police on horseback must pass at least within a quarter of a mile from here.

j.lu (j.lu), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 16:23 (twenty-three years ago)

there is an arabian stud farm a few miles north, but tis been a bad winter and they might have sold.

anthony easton (anthony), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 16:51 (twenty-three years ago)

According to my wife, I'm not very far from a horse's ass. Thank you, I'm here all week.

Colin Meeder (Mert), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 16:51 (twenty-three years ago)

That's a strange bottle of beautiful Tiger beer, the bottles I am familiar with are different to that one. Also a PINT you say? Tiger on tap? Never saw that in Dublin, unsurprisingly.

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 16:54 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh, they sell it in the Horse and Hound.

Lara (Lara), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 18:34 (twenty-three years ago)

Just a few blocks down the street. Calvary cops patrolling the streets.

That Girl (thatgirl), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 18:46 (twenty-three years ago)

Well, there's a few in Central Park, and that's a couple miles away.

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 18:50 (twenty-three years ago)

I once saw one in what seemed to be the back garden of a house maybe 500 yards away. Don't know if it lives there.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 21:16 (twenty-three years ago)

There are two horses in the field next to my house. They lean over the hedge right by my kitchen window, stamping and snorting and demanding carrots and polo mints.

C J (C J), Thursday, 30 January 2003 07:00 (twenty-three years ago)

that's a wonderful image? Do you give in to such equine demands?

That's a strange bottle of beautiful Tiger beer, the bottles I am familiar with are different to that one.

ah yes, but remember there are two Tigers, Ronan. That bottle was of Tiger bitter, which is brewed by Everards of Leicester. Tiger lager comes from Singapore.

MarkH (MarkH), Thursday, 30 January 2003 08:53 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm on R, which now makes me a HOR, and I've got lousy aim, so I'd say I'm about two shots away from a HORSE.

Dan I. (Dan I.), Thursday, 30 January 2003 09:11 (twenty-three years ago)

This thread is really abt heroin, isn't it?

Andrew L (Andrew L), Thursday, 30 January 2003 09:51 (twenty-three years ago)

Nah, it's about chasing dragons.
