The land so.

mark p (Mark P), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 16:32 (twenty-three years ago)

mark come on! if you're going to use it you could at least use it right! don't make me turn this nice fite thread into a fite thread.

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 16:33 (twenty-three years ago)

a giant fite clud!

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 16:40 (twenty-three years ago)

I see Andrew and Lara are still in their dressing room trying to put on their dressing gowns over the big gloves. Fools.

Pete (Pete), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 16:40 (twenty-three years ago)

What music will the respective protagonists be walking out to?

Any Southpaws?

Dave B (daveb), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 16:41 (twenty-three years ago)

They're waiting for the announcer and loud drum roll.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 16:41 (twenty-three years ago)

LETS GET READYYYYYY TO GRUMBLE!

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 16:41 (twenty-three years ago)

There's nothing to see here....this bout has not been licensed by the State Authorities. Fuck off to Atlantic City wontcha.

Nevada Gaming Commission (daveb), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 16:46 (twenty-three years ago)

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 16:49 (twenty-three years ago)

Right so...

suzy (suzy), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 16:53 (twenty-three years ago)

Ah sure isn't that more like it!

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 16:56 (twenty-three years ago)

DV (dirtyvicar), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 17:15 (twenty-three years ago)

I was wondering.

Andrew (enneff), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 17:30 (twenty-three years ago)

Andrew Farrell you fools.

I've just stolen his glasses and kicked his school-bag into a puddle. This is going to get nasty. But not until after I've had my tea.

Lara (Lara), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 18:21 (twenty-three years ago)

A giant fite cloud?

jel -- (jel), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 18:29 (twenty-three years ago)

coz if it is a giant fite cloud, then that is the greatest thing ever!

jel -- (jel), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 18:30 (twenty-three years ago)

NB I am off ILX for 36 hours from... now!

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 19:17 (twenty-three years ago)

Chicken.

Lara (Lara), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 19:20 (twenty-three years ago)

You should be giving it loads. (Ronan?)

Cozen (Cozen), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 20:33 (twenty-three years ago)

Crappest. Fight. Ever.

mark p (Mark P), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 20:36 (twenty-three years ago)

He ran away!!

Lara (Lara), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 20:37 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm still trying to find a context for "You should be giving it loads. (Ronan?)" that isn't sex-ridden doom.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 20:37 (twenty-three years ago)

I couldn't grasp a comfortable context for that either.

Lara (Lara), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 20:45 (twenty-three years ago)

This is like all the "heads vs. preps" fights we had a middle school. Or DIDn'T have. Because everyone would show up in the breezeway or whatever at a set time and all the teachers would already be there shooing everyone away.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 20:49 (twenty-three years ago)

Haha, Ronan was talking about "giving it loads" the other day, and I wasn't sure exactly what he meant; I had to ask.

The "Ronan?" above was a plea to the Man Himself as to whether my use of his term was correct. < /boring explanation of a potentially interesting mystery>

Cozen (Cozen), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 20:49 (twenty-three years ago)

'Giving it loads' is a common expression in Dublin (other places too maybe? It means 'Going at it hard/Making a big effort/Goign for it' etc. The country people say 'Giving it welly'.

Lara (Lara), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 21:28 (twenty-three years ago)

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 21:30 (twenty-three years ago)

PUT IT FROM YOUR MIND.

Lara (Lara), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 21:33 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm trying to give it welly!

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 21:40 (twenty-three years ago)

Over here we say 'give it some welly.

Bush was called a chickenhawk in the headlines the other day. I had never heard this expression before and for a moment I thought I was dreaming.

N. (nickdastoor), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 23:40 (twenty-three years ago)

Bush was called a chickenhawk in the headlines the other day.

TOO FUCKING CLASSIC!

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 23:42 (twenty-three years ago)

you mean you've never seen the foghorn leghorn cartoons with the chickenhawk in?

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 23:47 (twenty-three years ago)

They were too busy reading about the Chickenbear in the National Enquirer.

Lara (Lara), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 23:49 (twenty-three years ago)

It seems to be a slippery beast to pin down

N. (nickdastoor), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 23:51 (twenty-three years ago)

Some people scoff at its very existence.

N. (nickdastoor), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 23:54 (twenty-three years ago)

"Chickenhawk is slang for a homosexual man who preys on younger men."

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 23:56 (twenty-three years ago)

Bush does that?

N. (nickdastoor), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 23:57 (twenty-three years ago)

Does it matter?

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 23:58 (twenty-three years ago)

Well it depends. Are you trying to make me a gaybasher?

N. (nickdastoor), Wednesday, 29 January 2003 23:59 (twenty-three years ago)

No, I'm laughing at all of these people with their allegedly brand-new phrase which has this seedy, completely wrong undercurrent shot all through it.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 30 January 2003 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I was away gathering support (the millions of people at the FAP with whom I am sworn blood brothers) and more importantly financing (I have the money Mark C owes you, so we'll hear no more of this).

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Friday, 31 January 2003 11:33 (twenty-three years ago)

I owe the money to Nick now. Can you bring it back over with you next time?

Lara (Lara), Friday, 31 January 2003 11:35 (twenty-three years ago)

B-but I was led to believe that no payment would change hands?!

N. (nickdastoor), Friday, 31 January 2003 19:21 (twenty-three years ago)

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 31 January 2003 19:29 (twenty-three years ago)

Chickenhawk.

N. (nickdastoor), Friday, 31 January 2003 19:36 (twenty-three years ago)

Chickenhawk is it kosher?

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Friday, 31 January 2003 19:59 (twenty-three years ago)

Dude has a record out. I'd like to hear the full versions of these, "The Castle" sounds extremely creepy.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Friday, 23 December 2005 14:49 (twenty years ago)

Sorry, that was meant to be posted to this thread:
