Being an ungrateful wretch: C or D

So as I'm just moving off my parents health plan I get one more discounted set of glasses, and while visiting them I went for a checkup and picked the frames etc. But the frame dude wasn't in so I wrote the model # for my mom. But grrr... she LOST the model number and ordered another pair which aren't the same at all -- the others were plastic coated and these are wireframes (which always get all icky in the nosebits and get bent out of shape if i'm not careful and grrr) AND she went and got anti-reflective coating which makes them real hard to take care of.

And I know I should totally be grateful coz she went out of her way to get me the glasses (and the anti-reflective coating cost extra), and the frames she ordered aren't that bad even if they're not what I wanted (I feel so thin and wispy with them on, like I'll just float away in a haze of effete yuppiedom while the ones I had picked were thicker and more solid, so I felt like a stockbroker -- a hardass yuppie rather than a literary one [nb: i am neither]). But somehow there's this 15 yr. old in me screaming "you got me the wrong glasses! these are so uncool! i hate you! you're ruining my life!"

what's wrong with me?

you didn't get the face furniture you wanted this is what's wrong with you.

I think you are a very polite, unselfish guy to realize how selfish your whine might be. But I also think your unhappiness is justified. Glasses are an essential part of your overall charcater. ::adjusts cateyes)::

Aw, just embrace the yuppie within you, at least until you've broken in the new frames a bit - I usually find that bent ear pieces and a few scratches on the lenses make one appear less yuppish. I'd be glad to perform the modification for you, if you please.

I *wanted* to be a yuppie -- just more of a Michael Douglass in Falling Down type not a Michael Douglass in Wonderboys type.

Dude, for some reason I can totally see you flipping out over this.

...and the road to Hell is still paved with good intentions.

Hmmmm....I kinda liked Michael Douglas in *both* roles (but then again I fancy myself to be a Francis McDormand kind of woman, and I loved her characted in Wonder Boys). So how many levels of "yuppie-dom" are there? (And does this mean I don't get to screw-up you new glasses? *pout*)

Any chance you could call them and say hey, the frames are wrong, I'd like these lenses put in the other ones, how big a hassle would that be? and um, these give me a headache...or something.

Uh yeah the lenses are custom cut for the frame so no.
