Late night/early morning tv limbo

So how many of you start watching tv at ungodly hours and though there's nothing good on just flick through channels constantly and don't get out of the seat to go to bed. Following this I usually read in bed for as long as possible. Is this just ritual you fall into, not wanting the day to be over, or what? Or in the case of the morning refusing to accept the day has begun?

Happens to me sometimes... But then I accidentally flick past a discovery channel heart operation or something and decide I better go to bed.

GOD YES. those late night films that start at 12.30 and... oh the ruin. i have seen so many poor tv movies.

Have you seen the one with that Sabrina the Teenage Witch except she gets her boyfriend to kill their parents?

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 31 January 2003 14:36 (twenty-three years ago)

er...her parents, they arent brother and sister

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 31 January 2003 14:36 (twenty-three years ago)

If I do it, it's because I get the night fears and just don't want to be lying there in the dark with all the crap I repress during the day streaming through my mind. I thought this was common, but I am befuddled that Ronan never wants the day to end. I wish I felt like that more often.

aw, that movie sounded good til you took the incest out of the equation. now it sounds weak.

I think it's a clubbing thing in my mind to be honest, like the constant warning sign that's like "no something fun might still happen, stay awake" coupled with the lack of motivation "when you go to sleep you'll just wake up to another boring day".

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 31 January 2003 14:39 (twenty-three years ago)

I can't go to before midnight partly because I sleep so badly that it would pointless and partly because I feel cheated if I don't get a certain amount out of the day. It's false economy - for every night I've stayed up until 4am watching otter tosh, there's a wretched day after.

I also do this after coming home from a night out, ITV has this weird music after the close that sounds too weird and ambient to not have been composed by someone but at the same time too cheap to be an actual artist's work.

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 31 January 2003 14:41 (twenty-three years ago)

After far too many nights huddled under a duvet watching crap TV (too cold/too much effort to actually move to the bed) I TOOK CONTROL last night and deliberately covered up the TV as soon as I got home. It made the room feel much more like a 'living' room and less like a space around the TV. I did chores, read and listened to music instead (well, apart from a Buffy break , obviously).

That reminds me, I read the other day that they're bringing back the classic 'After Hours'. For anyone non-UK or who doesn't remember it, it was an open-ended discussion programme that ran from about midnight to 3 in the morning. There were some great debates and some classic telly moments. The one everyone remembers is when a drunk Oliver Reed tried to kiss Kate Millett. But it worked better as a forum for interesting discussion than a freak show.

Can't see myself staying awake for it now, though. Usually way too knackered by that time.

I used to take a lot of solace in infomercials ("I admit I was skeptical at first..." "proven by an actual medical doctor DO YOU SEE!" "But wait, there's more!" "...a whopping"; now they just depress the living shit out of me.
