Weren't some of these by Art Spiegleman? I knew him! Well, I interviewed him at length in a nasty hotel just behind Harrod's. Previous interviewer was Edwin Pouncey, who I know one or two people here know too.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Friday, 31 January 2003 23:02 (twenty-three years ago)

Martin,
I am in Sunny California,I used to go to places where I would bump into 'famous' people and writers/singers many many MANY times,I also know people who are actually related to 'famous' people too, hell, I even know a few famous people,(I don't find it a big deal knowing these people either) It isn't uncommon to know people in that buisiness, especially in California,It's not necesarry for you to *think* I would doubt you...........If you did meet that person....well, good for you.I would give you a pat on the head if you were nearby....

My father wouldn't let me buy these cards when I was younger (but I did anyway.)

A Nairn (moretap), Saturday, 1 February 2003 01:42 (twenty-three years ago)

interviewing Art Speigelman rocks, Martin. Probably one of a select few 'famous' people i would actually care to chat with.

That 'pat on the head' offer is still open, Martin.....

I was mentioning it not as a very weak attempt at namedropping but because it amused me that the images used in a thread called 'The People I Know' were by a person I knew.

I found him pretty disappointing, to be honest. I understood having to go through a few minutes of testing - I've had to do that before, and he was at the peak of his celebrity then, and was undoubtedly interviewed by loads of people who knew little of his work or comics generally - but he was very irritable and arrogant at any questioning of artistic decisions, and very pompous in a dreary old-fashioned High Culture way at times.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Saturday, 1 February 2003 12:32 (twenty-three years ago)

Well, he does do illustrations for the New Yorker...which is about as dreary old-fashioned High Culture as you can get.
