Okay, it's my time to say thank you to everyone who has made me feel so welcome:

To di, for being challenging and funny and welcoming
To luna_cee, for being adorable and supportive and friendly and for offering to be my personal shopper at Trader Joe's and for having such excellent tastes in grocery stores
To Becky, for raising some interesting topics and being willing to discuss intimate issues
To Martin, for the book advice and the praise and intelligent posts and being a wee bit twiseted just like myself and for continuing to say good things about me
To Tad, for understanding about the South and for reminding people that Bush does not speak for all American people
To Tag, for being willing to take my suggestions about reading material (and if you don't like it, well, then I need to re-evaluate whether or not you deserve to be listed on this thread)
To Momus/Nick for such controversial thread beginnings and contributions
To Ed, for being willing to argue with such vehemence
To Millar, for being so excellent at stating his opinions and not getting all that pissy when people disagree with him and also explaning who Ron Livingston is
To M Matos for making me feel, intitally, so welcome and for forgiving (I hope) for having such different taste in music
To duane, for saying that I am "choice" (though that makes me think of a side of beef, for some reason - but I am trying to think of it in more attractive terms
To Ned Raggett who keeps saying all sorts of nice things about me and makes some really funny posts
To j.lu for reminding me about the truffles at Trader Joe's
To Julio, who says I am "grebt," which I assume is a compliment
To everyone from Minnesota, 'cause I love that state and most of my relatives live there, too
To Sarah McLusky, for saying nice things about me and having an awesome name
To Mark C for saying that I look cuter than Kathleen Turner
To stolenbus for giving me a really unique compliment and making me laughTo Dan for showing me all of those links to threads that I'd missed
To Aaron Grossman, James Blount, fletrejet, gareth, and Stuart for saying such logical (or illogical, as the case may be) and fascinating things on the political threads
And, of course, to Tom and Graham, for ofering all of us such a cool place to hang-out and talk.

And, well, thank you and hello to everyone else, too. And if I have left you out, just throw a pillow at my head and I'll duly apologize and extend a personal "thank you" to you *grinning*

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Friday, 31 January 2003 23:26 (twenty-three years ago)

I want to thank Laura for all of her wise contributions to ile. Her posts are probably some of the most compassionate and thoughtful I have read here, and that's saying a lot.

Nicole (Nicole), Friday, 31 January 2003 23:26 (twenty-three years ago)

yes, ''grebt'' is a compliment. It means GRATE.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Friday, 31 January 2003 23:32 (twenty-three years ago)

:) :) :)

stolenbus (stolenbus), Friday, 31 January 2003 23:53 (twenty-three years ago)

Hi jel *smile* And no, I am sorry, but I'm not the same MsLaura that's on your distribution list - and I apologize to whoever that MsLaura is and offer to withdraw this name so they can have sole use of it - just let me know :) And jel, it's a pleasure to meet you :)

I'm Passing Open Windows (Ms Laura), Saturday, 1 February 2003 00:38 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh, Melissa, Melissa, Melissa - can you ever forgive me for my momentary memory lapse, that resulted in you being overlooked on the list? (Though, really, I didn't list you 'cause I thought that you deserved your very own, separate acknowlegement of your wit, beauty, and other glorious attributes too numerous to mention here :) ) But, here I am, grovelling like the pathetic worm that I am *sniff* I do hope that you can find room in your generous heart to accept me back into your good graces. If not, I shall spend the rest of my days in a meaningless fog of sadness.

I'm Passing Open Windows (Ms Laura), Saturday, 1 February 2003 00:39 (twenty-three years ago)

You're very much most welcome, luna - and I do thank you, too *grin*

You know, I think we should all form a mutual admiration society on here, and just give each other warm fuzzies all day. (Oh, and trade sex stories and book recommendations, too. And funny pictures.)

I'm Passing Open Windows (Ms Laura), Saturday, 1 February 2003 00:41 (twenty-three years ago)

You are most very welcome, Martin *smile* I think you and I have more in common than might first appear on the surface - we really need to start talking books (what did you think I was referring to?!)

I'm Passing Open Windows (Ms Laura), Saturday, 1 February 2003 00:42 (twenty-three years ago)

You've a very sweet emoticon smile, Ned Raggett. (And I adore your name, too. It's moanable. And that's a good thing.)

I'm Passing Open Windows (Ms Laura), Saturday, 1 February 2003 00:43 (twenty-three years ago)

Awww...shucks.

Tag, Saturday, 1 February 2003 00:43 (twenty-three years ago)

Hmmm...but do you feel fuzzy as well as warm, Julio? If not, then I've not heaped enough praise upon you. (And, um, thanks for the explanation of "grebt" - that's too funny!)

I'm Passing Open Windows (Ms Laura), Saturday, 1 February 2003 00:44 (twenty-three years ago)

Wow - three smiles from stolenbus. *swoon* (Next time send me a wink with the smiles and then I'll swoon AND say flirtatious things at the same time *grinning from a swooning position*)

I'm Passing Open Windows (Ms Laura), Saturday, 1 February 2003 00:45 (twenty-three years ago)

mslaura, that is so kind.

di smith (lucylurex), Saturday, 1 February 2003 00:46 (twenty-three years ago)

So are you shrugging in embarassment, Tag, and kicking at the ground and all, like a little schoolboy? *laughing* (And you need to let me know what you bought - oh, and I finished Confederates in the Attic this morning - lots of interesting insight into the Southern U.S. and some really funny anecdotes, but also disturbing and educational - all at the same time.

I'm Passing Open Windows (Ms Laura), Saturday, 1 February 2003 00:49 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh, no no no, di. This is the thread where I say nice things about *other* people. And you're one of them. And I love how spunky you are in your posts *grin*

I'm Passing Open Windows (Ms Laura), Saturday, 1 February 2003 00:50 (twenty-three years ago)

*blush*, thanks.

di smith (lucylurex), Saturday, 1 February 2003 00:52 (twenty-three years ago)

You're new?

Wow, I'm certainly observant.

Curtis Stephens, Saturday, 1 February 2003 00:54 (twenty-three years ago)

*smile* Thank you ever so mcuh, Nicole. But really, here is where I say nice things about *you guys*. And Nicole, you're wonderful about paying sincere compliments and you never make typos. *chuckle*

Seriously, thank you for your kind words :)

I'm Passing Open Windows (Ms Laura), Saturday, 1 February 2003 01:23 (twenty-three years ago)

OOohhhh...I made di blush! I wonder if I can make her squirm, too?

di, m'dear, you've a lovely way of conveying all of your warm and friendly postings, you make intelligent contributions to oddball threads, and when you're in a bad mood you don't keep it bottled-up inside of you *ducking* And I respect you for all of that. And I also like the fact that you decided not to hate men and women all of the time *smile*

I'm Passing Open Windows (Ms Laura), Saturday, 1 February 2003 01:25 (twenty-three years ago)

Hi Curtis - yeah, I'm kinda new - well, I've been lurking for some while and just recently decided to start giving into my desires to communicate with others and indulge in my verbal drooling addiction. So it's a pleasure to meet you and all :) And since this is where I say nice things about people, then, "Curtis, you've a wonderful name and I really like how quickly you realized that I was new and came forward to announce your observation skills. I do hope that you'll share those skills with me in the future, as I have none whatsoever and am constantly making a fool of myself, and not in a cute and precocious way."

I'm Passing Open Windows (Ms Laura), Saturday, 1 February 2003 01:28 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm nice.

RJG (RJG), Saturday, 1 February 2003 01:33 (twenty-three years ago)

*grin* You're nice and funny and witty and are given to making posts that encourage the reader to ponder new concepts, RJG. Those are all excellent attibutes and I envy you for posessing them.

I'm Passing Open Windows (Ms Laura), Saturday, 1 February 2003 01:39 (twenty-three years ago)

: /

RJG (RJG), Saturday, 1 February 2003 01:43 (twenty-three years ago)

i haven't introduced myself yet as i'm something of a less social poster, but hello. you've said some very smart and compassionate things in the last few days and i'm glad you're here.

Maria (Maria), Saturday, 1 February 2003 02:29 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm glad Mslaura is here, too. I hope she is here for a long time.

Christine "Green Leafy Dragon" Indigo (cindigo), Saturday, 1 February 2003 02:49 (twenty-three years ago)

Aw, RJG - give me one of those charming smiles that I know you are capable of expressing, please?

I'm Passing Open Windows (Ms Laura), Saturday, 1 February 2003 02:54 (twenty-three years ago)

*smile* Thank you for your kind words, Maria - it's a pleasure to meet you - though I do believe I've seen your name pop-up once or twice *grin* And I am tickled pink to be here.

I'm Passing Open Windows (Ms Laura), Saturday, 1 February 2003 02:55 (twenty-three years ago)

Well thank you too, Christine *smile* I am now tickled pinker - so is that magenta? It's an interesting shade, to say the least. Anyway, I appreciate your welcome and warm words and wish that I hang around for a bit - I believe I shall :)

I'm Passing Open Windows (Ms Laura), Saturday, 1 February 2003 02:56 (twenty-three years ago)

Ah-hem. Isn't this where I am supposed to be saying nice things about everyone else?!

Actually, I think someone should start a daily thread thing whereby one regular poster is "icely roasted" for a day - kinda like an early funeral thing, where everyone says the nice things about them that would be said at their funeral, but instead say it while they're alive and can hear the words and blush and feel uncomfortable and all loved and adored. But not me - someone else needs to step in and take the reins on this project *grin* (I LOVE delegating things!)

I'm Passing Open Windows (Ms Laura), Saturday, 1 February 2003 02:59 (twenty-three years ago)

*CHARMING SMILE*

RJG (RJG), Saturday, 1 February 2003 03:03 (twenty-three years ago)

And I adore your name, too. It's moanable. And that's a good thing.

! *blush* Dang. Now that's a compliment and a half. :-) Thanks!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 1 February 2003 03:25 (twenty-three years ago)

*grinning* Thank you for that charming and well-nigh blinding smile, RJG. You've charmed me.

I'm Passing Open Windows (Ms Laura), Saturday, 1 February 2003 04:07 (twenty-three years ago)

You're most welcome, Ned.

But surely I can't be the only person who does that? I mean, when you meet someone, don't you immediately think "okay, can I moan their name in a fit of passion?" And you don't, at least mentally or under your breath, attempt such a moan, summoning the extatic emotion from your last excellent sexual encounter? And if the name is NOT moanable, you don't immediately cross them off your list of people you'd be willing to do things with that might make you moan? And don't you sometimes just decide not to have anything to do with them because of that fact? Sheesh.

I'm Passing Open Windows (Ms Laura), Saturday, 1 February 2003 04:11 (twenty-three years ago)

jess (dubplatestyle), Saturday, 1 February 2003 04:37 (twenty-three years ago)

jess (dubplatestyle), Saturday, 1 February 2003 04:37 (twenty-three years ago)

The real question is, do you think Ned's name is typeable? Could you type it in a fit of passion?

Chris P (Chris P), Saturday, 1 February 2003 04:44 (twenty-three years ago)

Er um uh.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 1 February 2003 05:19 (twenty-three years ago)

Ned will never let me crash at his place again.

Chris P (Chris P), Saturday, 1 February 2003 05:21 (twenty-three years ago)

No, that's fine, I'll just wonder what you're doing at the computer sometimes.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 1 February 2003 05:24 (twenty-three years ago)

Wiping it down, no doubt.

Chris P (Chris P), Saturday, 1 February 2003 05:25 (twenty-three years ago)

How ya doin', Chris.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 1 February 2003 05:28 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm passing open windows, at the very least.

Chris P (Chris P), Saturday, 1 February 2003 06:33 (twenty-three years ago)

thanks a bunch mslaura! I am totally surprised! I don't know what to type! Really!

Aaron Grossman (aajjgg), Saturday, 1 February 2003 06:44 (twenty-three years ago)

WHEE my existence is confirmed twice in one day!

Millar (Millar), Saturday, 1 February 2003 07:05 (twenty-three years ago)

Wow! Nice thread Laura - it's a rare thing that can make everyone on ILE smile and go "aw" but you seem to have done it. Newcomers - take notes, Laura seems to be otm.

Mark C (Mark C), Saturday, 1 February 2003 13:51 (twenty-three years ago)

And Nicole, you're wonderful about paying sincere compliments and you never make typos.

You haven't been round here long enough yet, my posts are typically typo city. But thanks. :-)
