As mentioned a few threads below -- high school was my golden time of such things: Nedward, Nedrico, Neduardo, Nesbitt Ragu, the Grateful Ned, the Ned Kennedys and Ned Sex, after John Sex (long story). Then there was 'Brain on a Stick,' which gained currency thanks to one of the football players (who was actually a nice guy) and my 130 lb. weight and 6 foot tall height.

I forgot to mention another nickname I was cursed with--Jorma! Thanks to my other older brother Mike, the Deadhead. He used to always wear a Jorma Kaukonen t-shirt so the asshole kids down the street decided to call all four of us Brennan boys Jorma. It was "Hey, Sid!" at school and "Hey, Jorma!" around the neighborhood. I was deeply offended at the time. And of course they pronounced it wrong, a hard "j" not a "y" sound. At least they didn't pronounce it "Whore-Ma".

And then there was Darvon/Darvaughn.

katie, katie g, Ktee, kat, kit kat, kitbells, and my boyfriend calls me whatever i am eating at the time followed by "face" eg, at the moment i am sossage roll face. also my mum has a wide and embarrassing repertoire of nicknames for me including katie bubbles bang bang, katharina bubblescu, and Fanny By Gas Light. the first 2 are apparently because i was v fond of blowing bubbles as a child, and the last one is what all the women in the family have called each other since i can remember.

At school: Adolf (I don't know why), Kevin (a teacher who always confused me w/my then best friend, and it stuck)

Since then: the occasional Meeder Man, a former girlfriend Coleen and I used to call each other Col, my lovely wife used to call me Honey Bunny ironically -- the irony has since fallen away but the habit has stuck. She will also call me Jerkface sometimes.

I have two main nicknames. I get called 'Foreskin' because I am the only person a certain group of friends who isn't Jewish. My personal favorite is Dunjun Mastaa, which I earned when we were talking about playing Dungeons and Dragons as kids, and when I said that I had never played, someone said "you look like you would have been the Dungeon Master!" I got back at him by tricking him into shooting large quantities of Malt Vinegar, but the deed was done.

My Grandmother insists my name is pronounced SA-ruh with a hard A. I guess that's a nickname of sorts. She also calls me Princess.

My Dad used to call me Lil' Partner and then Princess and sometimes Wiggles or Wigglebottoms.

My Mom calls me Agent Sarah sometimes (which she finds freakin' hilarious). She called me Lili for a while several years ago when I was trying to change my name. It didn't catch on with anyone else though.

NA gives me endearing names that I won't mention as they are supertwee.

y'know, reading through this thread, I realize that I might finally like nicknames - calling people by them, having people call me by them. I used to be, kind of irrationally, not into it at all (saw it as usurping people's power, betraying the original name, god, I don't know), and the warm up has been slow and I still have some parametres on it, but it can be really cute and nice! yaay!

Anyway, as that was the case, only close friends and family have called me by nicknames, nothing too weird - Rob, Robby, Robina, Robinder, RaRa, Robbo, Princess (my mom, obv), My Sistah! (my bros, obv). ah, and rrrobyn.

i cant recall offhand ever having a genuine nickname, & can off the top of my head only think of 2 guys that were that were consistently called by nicknames (best = 'dn', pronounced 'dean' later, dnr, ('deaner') who yelled 'birdseed' before every basketball shot. no one ever figured out why)

My school friends called me "Taff"

My family nickname was "Kina" (pronounced "keener") because it's what I used to call myself when I was a baby and couldn't pronounce my own name properly.

When I was a teenager I had a boyfriend who used to call me "Lassie". I was initially charmed by this, asking if it was a Scottish term of affection for me being his girl or something, but he said no, he had named me after Lassie Meaty Chunks, the dog food.

Someone used to call me Nickodemus, but I can't for the life of me remember who. Nikolai and Nickerdoodle, by the same token. Perhaps my paternal grandfather. The obligatory "Nick Nick Nick N-Nick Nick Nick Nickelodeon" in grade school, of course. A classmate of mine, who is a semi-self-aware hair metal stereotype, calls me Nikki Sixx at all times, often in spite of the fact that he has absolutely nothing to say to me.

Dork nicknames: In Lutheran school I got called "Dictionary" a lot, as well as "the kid who believes humans are going to turn into dolphins in the year 2000" after I was outed as the only defender of evolution in science class. I was "32" to anyone who didn't know me personally in junior year of high school after getting the highest score on the ACT.

And finally, after an ill-conceived night involving 3.5 Sparks and two shots of bathtub moonshine in the course of an hour, as well as my threatening a man with physical harm for turning off ABBA (which I think I've mentioned before), I picked up the name "Noise God."

I have real issues calling people by abbreviations of their name without being given explicit permission to do so

I love that Mark C said this, because he is the only person I know who calls me ails. There's no way I would have given permission for this, but it's just one of those things now.

WmC I have had every possible permutation of the "abs" nickname possible throughout my life. It would definitely be preferable than the nickname given by my manager when I worked at Taco Bell at age 16. She started out calling me "Abs of Steel" and then thought it would be funnier to call me "Abs of Flab." If I was trying to drink a six-pack faster than someone, I would definitely accept that nickname, to intimidate my opponent!

people who know me from quite a young age or from school or growing up mostly call me "fitz" or "fitzy", except then one of these people told my work colleagues this and for a while they all called me "fitzy" too, loudly and in formal situations, it was really fun actually and i liked it as it made them feel like my old friends. also for a while had "ro-dog" which i'm not mad on.

In over 55 years I have never had a nickname that stuck. My big bro tried several out for size when I was in my teens, but no one else used them, so they died a brief and painless death.

Apparently my given name doesn't lend itself to chopping, changing, or clever rhyming and I have no physical attributes worthy of nickname inspiration. In the world of nicknames, I am a cipher.

My nicknames were all weird because they were just names. All through high school I was called "Lucas" after the character played by Corey Haim, because in a misguided attempt to fit in at my new high school I joined the football team as an undersized nerd. Then in college my nickname was "Corey Feldman" because of an unfortunate passing resemblance to the actor.
