apple sells an iPod.
Vs.
eBay sells an iPod.

how can this really work? selling for less than the maufacturers, I mean, with the =buy it now option being forty pounds less. the eBay one says it is sealed and has apple's one year warranty etc. I'd have to pay for it to be delivered Vs. apple's free delivery on stuff over three hundred pounds. but?

I'd have to buy a pcmcia firewire card, too.

No ya don't - I can sell you one of those.

I got my iPod for Windows and had to get the card and cable. Now my next work computer will be a Mac which has firewire.

You'd probably be able to find it for less than Apple's price if you were to look for it at retail; whenever a manufacturer offers something online, directly, they typically sell it at full suggested retail price to avoid causing unfair competition with anyone who would carry it at retail, because otherwise no one has an incentive to sell something for that manufacturer. When Apple sells it to a reseller, they'd be selling it at far less than 399 pounds (or whatever the SRP is) so that the reseller could make a bit of money on the thing. Thus, a markdown of 40 or 50 pounds may not be unreasonable. You can bet that the seller won't be losing any money...they'll probably still be making a nice little profit.

You might want to wait a bit -- rumor has it that a 30 (and possibly 40) gig iPod will be announced soon, which could drop the prices of the lower capacity models...

I just bought a 10 GB fella.

Jack, I say just go with buying it from Apple, that way you know what you're getting and that it WILL arrive.

(I used the "buy it now" option a few months ago to purchase something which has yet to arrive... of course, the seller processed my paypal order w/o sending the item... I got SCROOOOED.)
