OPO: household chores

i was never any good at mowing the lawn, i could never mow in a straight line and despite the lovely smell of fresh cut grass my allergies always got in the way...so naturally i love vacuuming, you don't have to worry about straight lines, an even cut and no more allergies...and don't get me started with crevices

locking the doors

don't know if this counts, but I love love love to wash cars. Actually any car. If some stranger just came up to me on the street and asked, I'd probably do it right then. it's like redemption.

Does cooking count?

Nicole (Nicole), Thursday, 13 February 2003 01:37 (twenty-three years ago)

I don't mind washing dishes.

RJG (RJG), Thursday, 13 February 2003 01:59 (twenty-three years ago)

when i stay at my parents' house, my dad and i always argue over who gets to do the laundry. it's not quite as much fun here at my place because the washer and dryer are in the dark and frightening basement and are always piled high with sweaty boys' clothes.

i've never considered cooking a chore...especially when you have the agreement where if i cook then you have to wash the dishes...obviously cooking has the upper hand in the deal..cooking is all about trying new things and experimenting leaving the dishwasher to clean up after your fun

Cooking, closely followed by vacuuming (I LOVE my vacuum! Sick, isn't it?)

I'm Passing Open Windows (Ms Laura), Thursday, 13 February 2003 02:22 (twenty-three years ago)

I love cooking, especially when others come over. Every other housework related item can go suck a fuck, especially cleaning up.

(can you tell I'm a slob?)

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 13 February 2003 02:46 (twenty-three years ago)

I HATE vacuuming, mostly because I have to do it so often or else be overwhelmed by dog hair. Err, and ironing, but that's just ineptness. I've never in my life figured out how to iron a pair of pants, or the sleeves of shirts.

lyra (lyra), Thursday, 13 February 2003 04:05 (twenty-three years ago)

Vacuuming is the devil. I love mopping and to a degree mowing the lawn, because in those cases you can actually witness your progress, and you can look at it hours later and say 'that's a damn fine floor/lawn' whereas vacuuming is a futile struggle which only serves to make you feel beholden to this bizarre and expensive machine, which is never good enough to do the job in one pass frequently blows as much dust up into the air as it sucks into itself.

Murphy's oil soap, a bucket and a sponge on a stick -this is housework.

Millar (Millar), Thursday, 13 February 2003 04:13 (twenty-three years ago)

I wash myself with a rag on a stick, hyuk hyuk hyuk

Mowing the lawn: I used to try to judge it exactly so that my square spiral would be a perfect square and hit in the center so that there wouldn't be any leftover splinter-shaped lines of grass. Or I would do it diagonally. I once made a face too, but my father made me finish it corretly.

Lawn mowing RULES. I think it's the only reason we bought property last year -- so I can mow it.

1. Entering new CDs, records etc. into the database
2. Filing new music correctly
3. Entering new books into the database
4. Filing new books correctly

This probably tells you something about my sense of priorities. Next 95 places blank, then I don't mind...

100. Loading the dishwasher

I am FANTASTICALLY anal about washing the dishes and wiping down counters used for food preparation. And it FUCKS ME OFF when other people will not be as anal as I am about it. The rest of the cleanliness thing I'm not so bothered about.

kate, Thursday, 13 February 2003 13:07 (twenty-three years ago)

I like to put away all the magazines and books laying around. They're easy to put away and the floor is always covered with them.

I usually don't mind putting away clothes, but I still haven't accomplished my January goal of taking out enough clothes for good will to have room for the ones currently thrown over the end of the bed in a big pile.

Basically, the apartment is a COMPLETE wreck right now. If I died today (and God cared about cleanliness), I would def go to hell.

Watering the plants is nice, plants are good folk. Very non-judgemental. Unless they up and die on you, which is kind of the ultimate comment a plant can make regarding your worthiness.

Hunter (Hunter), Friday, 14 February 2003 04:45 (twenty-three years ago)

My plants all hate me. I had one commit suicide once. Came down in the morning, the plant was lying there on the floor. The pot was still upright. No, no pets or anything like that.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Friday, 14 February 2003 21:06 (twenty-three years ago)

Martin - I had a nightmare one night that one of the plants on my window sill had come to life and was trying to strangle me. I threw it through a window and screen, in my sleep. Hard to explain at 3:00 AM in the middle of winter. Plant survived, but moved into my sister's room for protection.

I used to hate washing up, but now it gives a semblance of order and a sense of achievement to my emptiest days.

My favourite household task is putting CDs back in their boxes. Least favourite is dusting/cleaning the tiles in the bathroom.

one month passes...
Ironing, especially if starch is involved. Mmm . . . starch.

felicity (felicity), Sunday, 30 March 2003 13:19 (twenty-three years ago)

eight months pass...
I hate all of it pretty equally.

Someone, please come clean my apartment.
