Since good friends Chris, Chels and Karen are plotting such an event tonight -- we're not going anywhere for it, but we are raiding the very good gourmet wine store and will spend the evening judging. Ever been to a formal one? Ever do the taste-then-spit thing? Ever made some discoveries of vintages that changed your life and you are willing to share right this second so we can all judge? Do tell all.

Only a beer world cup. I can't remember what won. I think I did the Jamaican flair of Red Stripe against the gritty hard work of Carling Premier.

What I took away from my time at the city centre Odd Bins in Glasgow was twofold. 1) If you just walk away from your job two days before you're supposed to quit you might get the CID doon your flat. 2) "Domaine de Bachellery" is extremely nice and about 6 pound a bottle. That definitely changed my life for a while.

Zinfindel is German for "shoe polish."

it's all in the nose and the swish, and naming a flavor, I'd say it's individual taste/food parings, but be warned too much wine/food makes one plump, see the wine interferes with the enzymes your body produces when food hits your tounge, it artifically digests your food quickly so you can eat more but you swallow incompletely digested food which doesn't process corectly, rmember the average US male dies with sixty pounds of semi-digested food in his colon. MOral: drink your foods and chew your drinks. Yes I've tasted, I like barrel samples from hand- picked varietals, machine picked grapes often include insects, dirt and rattlesnakes (no lie)

six years pass...

This deserves a revive because I just drank an amazing South Austrialian 15.5% red that rocked my world, called Strong Arms. What are you drinking?

Um, I had an '04 pinot noir this afternoon from Roederer Estate in Mendocino Co. They make a few hundred cases of this in addition to their fantastic sparklers. Pretty good.

one year passes...

I will be making yet another trip to the Central Coast of California this coming weekend. Anyone know of any particular wineries I should attempt to visit? We will be staying in Solvang, that charming Danish village in the Santa Maria valley.
