An irony torte

They really need a lesson in how P.R. works -- there seems to be this weird assumption that they can say "panic" and then "don't panic" and the public will just take their word for it. You'd think those billions of dollars could have hired someone with some sense of how to smoothly finesse the national mood in the direction they want it, but instead we get clunky "hey panic" and then "well fuck we didn't mean it like that" and then "okay panic" again.

"Bush has proposed spending about $41 billion on homeland security in fiscal year 2004, but Democrats say that's not enough."

What, is there an election coming up or something?
