i mentioned somewhere that finding shrigley funny (as opposed to "uh, weird") was a unarguable prerequisite for any prospective suitoress for me...

can someone post my favourite one from 'do not bend' please? it begins thus: "mother!"

you know the rest i'm sure

N. (nickdastoor), Friday, 5 December 2003 15:25 (twenty-two years ago)

I have met him and he is a very nice man.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Friday, 5 December 2003 15:27 (twenty-two years ago)

oh excellent - i hope its better than the Vincent Galo one!

jed (jed_e_3), Friday, 5 December 2003 15:31 (twenty-two years ago)

hightlight of the documentary - Will Self: " The god of David Shirgley's work is an evil omnipetent character whose life is grossly circumscribed by a bad bus timetable"!!!

jed (jed_e_3), Friday, 5 December 2003 20:31 (twenty-two years ago)

RJG - I have it on video.

N. (nickdastoor), Monday, 8 December 2003 14:54 (twenty-two years ago)

I can't make up my mind.

The duddest part of the programme was where Will Self said "I know people who won't have relationships with other people who don't like Shrigley."

To which I wanted to shout at the telly "I categorically wouldn't have a relationship with people who would judge their potential mates by shallow and superficial tests!"

It was a bit silly of him pretending not to be seen in the docu. I mean, I know what he looks like, I saw his photo in an edgy style magazine or something lately. (I think. It could have been a music mag.) He's very tall. I wonder what size shoe he wears.

THAT Kate (kate), Monday, 8 December 2003 14:58 (twenty-two years ago)

hey, that's good news, N. maybe you could loan me it, sometime.

RJG (RJG), Monday, 8 December 2003 14:59 (twenty-two years ago)

No, I don't think so. I was just crowing.

N. (nickdastoor), Monday, 8 December 2003 15:01 (twenty-two years ago)

I just read the rest of the thread, and apparently, Zemko is dating Will Self, or something like that. Hmmm.

THAT Kate (kate), Monday, 8 December 2003 15:01 (twenty-two years ago)

that's OK, too. it is still good news.

RJG (RJG), Monday, 8 December 2003 15:02 (twenty-two years ago)

I think he has gone downhill, perhaps, lately.

I also think - how does one DO this?. I feel like I could be doing this as well as he does it. This should not be a job. This should be my job. I think I think about a lot of things this way.

For example, I find 'Lucy' as funny or funnier than this. But no one knows what I am talking about because no one has seen it. There are so many more funny people than funny things that people see.

I have no idea what I am talking about. I'm going to watch football.

I got the Book of Shrigley yesterday. It is good. It has one of those ribbon bookmark things and if you pull it out it reads "smile! david shrigley loves you!".

Straight Outta the Chinese Quarter (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 19 October 2005 17:48 (twenty years ago)

Did anyone go to his exhibit at the Anton kern gallery in NY in...March? I was delighted. Less so by the series of photographs, though.

I think I will make a simple line drawing about the unadulterated goodness that would be:
David Shrigley at The Mountain Goats.

now now, Wednesday, 19 October 2005 23:22 (twenty years ago)

David Shrigley is grebt. I feel like Chr1s F0rgu3s and a lot of the paperrodeo scene are ripping significantly on his concepts.

Laura H. (laurah), Wednesday, 19 October 2005 23:33 (twenty years ago)

that was ian, btw.

thanks for reminding me that was on alba!

shrigley - So, I started working on a project for the BBC where I have to make public artworks about the news. I put this image on the side of a mobile billboard and sent it to Twickenham where England are playing Australia (at Rugby). Apparently the police were not happy about it.

stirmonster (stirmonster), Saturday, 19 November 2005 00:01 (twenty years ago)

The image “http://www.optimo.co.uk/rugby.jpg” cannot be displayed, because it contains errors.

Alba (Alba), Saturday, 19 November 2005 00:28 (twenty years ago)

The police are very picky about images containing errors, you know.

Forest Pines (ForestPines), Saturday, 19 November 2005 08:00 (twenty years ago)
