Yes, but that's mostly because I'm bored.

j.lu (j.lu), Monday, 17 February 2003 03:06 (twenty-three years ago)

I've just eaten some sugar. And roast duck.

Coffe

I need a Twinkie fix! I ate about a ton of roasted chicken strips I bought at Costco plus some Pastrami. Nothing else. Day 2 of the LOW CARB regimen. I can't see it lasting more than a couple of more days before I ransack the 7-11 for Snoballs, Twixts and Caramelos! So, how are you doing?

Wheat and refined sugar are making us a nation of SLOBS. Protein and fat... the mantra for a new generation!!!

Drink some water - and then some more - and then go for a walk.

The no-carb food pyramid:

1. nicotine
2. caffeine
3. vegetables
4. blue cheese burgers
5. fish

I am not craving sugar. Just that fresh healthy feeling I used to have in my lungs.

felicity (felicity), Monday, 17 February 2003 04:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I must be a freak, I never ever crave sugar, and it never gives me a "buzz". I love salty, savoury things. I could eat cheeses, crackers, rice and soy sauce all day long...

As for these bloody Atkins diets - refined sugar and flour are bad, sure - but so is greasy fatty bacon and processed meats and too much cholesterol. Plus, those zone diets are severly bad for your heart, and can damage the fibres in your muscles. Sure, you lose a lot of weight - but that just damages your body.

Whatever happened to "everything in moderation"?

.... I'll get me coat.

>>Whatever happened to "everything in moderation"?<<

For some, if it isn't an extreme it isn't worth trying, doing or over-doing.

You do know that there was a Quincey episode about how dangerous the No Carbs diet is? A model was KILLED!!! by following the No Carbs diet. NO CARBS DIETING KILLED THIS GIRL!!!

kate, Monday, 17 February 2003 09:06 (twenty-three years ago)

Giving up sweets is not an option. Kate is right.

Lara (Lara), Monday, 17 February 2003 09:38 (twenty-three years ago)

Why would you go on a diet that makes you not eat carbs, when you could go on a diet that makes you LOVE?

Jody Beth Rosen (Jody Beth Rosen), Monday, 17 February 2003 10:03 (twenty-three years ago)

zero carb diets just aren't healthy.

Ed (dali), Monday, 17 February 2003 10:11 (twenty-three years ago)

Giving up refined sugars is a good idea but yeah, totally cutting out carbs is mental.

(sez least good-eating person on boards)

Tom (Groke), Monday, 17 February 2003 10:35 (twenty-three years ago)

It's not sensible but *whispers* cutting out carbs does help shift a shed-load of excess weight really quickly.

Lara (Lara), Monday, 17 February 2003 12:09 (twenty-three years ago)

Well my fiancee's lost about 5 stone in 2 years following a diet which cuts out most carbs and all sugar, but doesn't cut out all of them (prescribed by a nutritionist, not found in a book!). I suppose it depends whether long-term or short-term loss is the goal.

Tom (Groke), Monday, 17 February 2003 12:11 (twenty-three years ago)

Short-term results, long-term loss would be best.

To slim down I just cut down on chips and try to drink more alcohol. Works every time.

Lara (Lara), Monday, 17 February 2003 12:20 (twenty-three years ago)

The whole obsession with carbohydrate/fat/protein proportions is all bullshit. For weight loss, all that matters is total calories from any source. You can eat whatever you eat normally and lose weight, just eat less of it. And excercise too.

fletrejet, Monday, 17 February 2003 12:38 (twenty-three years ago)

Exerecise and good balanced diet. I lost about 5kg over a couple of months living in Italy, eat much better than I do here and skiing twice a week through the winter. I would have lost a lot more weight but I put on some hefty leg muscles belied the ammount of midrift I lost.

Ed (dali), Monday, 17 February 2003 12:46 (twenty-three years ago)

'midrift?'

suzy (suzy), Monday, 17 February 2003 13:23 (twenty-three years ago)

This isn't true in some cases, though it is true in most.

Melissa W (Melissa W), Monday, 17 February 2003 13:25 (twenty-three years ago)

5kg is NOTHING.
