Oddball Compliments...

So this evening I'm wandering around the house in my new (Victoria's S*cret, even!) sleepwear, and my SO (male) looks-up from his computer and says:
"I'll bet Lesbians would think you're sexy in that."

My response:
"They already do."

So, was that a compliment? He's famous for not being "hinting" - and if he didn't like it, I think he'd say so - so can anyone translate for me? And what kind of oddball compliments have you received and been unsure of the meaning? And why in the world did I end-up with a male, anyway?

(Oh, the clothing - green tanktop and green boxer shorts - what's so "lesbian" about that? Sheesh.)

I think it's kind of oddball. Not in some kind of totally bizarro "Oh my god why would he say that" type of way but a more of a "What did you just say?" type of way. It's just hard to tell if he meant it as a compliment or as a take-that-thing-off type of way or what.

I get oddball insults from my SO. My favorite was still when he said to me "Get the fuck out of here, Anne of Green Gables!" I mean, what?

I don't see the lesbian comment as being weird or offensive or anything. I had a bf who was OBSESSED with lesbians, and utterly FASCINATED by the rather uninteresting fact of my bisexuality. He made reference to it at least once a day. After a while, I was sorry I'd ever mentioned it. But, whatever. Not offensive. It was annoying, but sort of cute. (He was annoying, but sort of cute.)

Oddball compliment. Guy I knew in college -- not quite "a friend of a friend," but a mutual friend of someone I was closer with. We were all partying in my dorm room one night, and I said something amusing.

To which he replied:

"You're much funnier when I'm drunk."

I don't think I've ever had a straightforward compliment. The only compliments I ever seem to get are the "you're fucking WEIRD... butI like you" variety.

me and my girlfriend were in a pub once, and this weird drunk guy (aged about 30) was on his own and going up to random strangers to talk to them. He comes up to me and my girlfriend, and says:

"are you two lovers?"

my quick-witted other half replies

"No we're brother and sister."

so he then says: "Would you like to be lovers?"

Feaaring the conversation may take an unpleasant turn, we admitted we were "lovers". Then he pays us an oddball compliment, saying:

"you two are one of those quirky little couples that are quite beautiful in your own way. I'd quite like to film you, and see how it goes."

We politely declined. Not sure about that "in your own way" bit, but I choose to be flattered by this request.

Hey now, not all straight guys have such lame compliments. If I had a SO *sigh* and she was wearing what IPOW describes, I'd tell it looks HOT!!!

Totally unrelated question (although I guess sorta related to JBR's post): why is every woman I date bisexual, to some degree? Not that I have a problem with it (I don't), it's just a common trait. Also, they all seem to have January birthdays. WTF?

My, uh, "taste" in women is pretty catholic (i.e. universal, I don't mean I have a nun fetish), and if I was bothering to be with someone right now, I hope I'd find her to be attractive!

Yes. And what am I supposed to say to that? I mean, it's nice and all, but why not something more along the lines of, "Do I ever tell you how beautiful you are?" (or pretty/sexy, depending on what I want to hear at the time)
