James Blount (James Blount), Wednesday, 19 February 2003 06:06 (twenty-three years ago)

He's back!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 19 February 2003 06:06 (twenty-three years ago)

ha! I just put that cymande song on a mix-cdr myself!

James Blount (James Blount), Wednesday, 19 February 2003 06:07 (twenty-three years ago)

kool and the gang :)

minna (minna), Wednesday, 19 February 2003 06:08 (twenty-three years ago)

yeah i saw bone thugz but i was real sick, im writing about it for flagpole once i can get the girl whose camera i borrowed to develop my blurry pics of krazy bone

s trife (simon_tr), Wednesday, 19 February 2003 06:13 (twenty-three years ago)

oh blount did you hear theyre changing music editors, theres gonna be somebody fulltime doing cd and show reviews combined with abc?? its weird

s trife (simon_tr), Wednesday, 19 February 2003 06:14 (twenty-three years ago)

I knew they were looking for someone; when ballard was the music editor he did all that so it makes sense. Is it Gordon (his drooling over Madeline this week was a little creepy)? Beware whoever it is though.

James Blount (James Blount), Wednesday, 19 February 2003 06:21 (twenty-three years ago)

haha blount you pull no punches!! i dont think they know who it is yet but probably not gordon, at least i hope, dudes a good guy but his constant yo look what rapper did something stupid arent rappers dumb/but hey check it i still like early 90s pm dawn though/but yo 8mile is proof that people as a whole are idiots! music column bullshit is too much already, as an editor i think me and him would clash on the realll

s trife (simon_tr), Wednesday, 19 February 2003 06:27 (twenty-three years ago)

I'll give him credit though - he was telling me to stock that petey pablo album waaaaaaaaay before it came out.

James Blount (James Blount), Wednesday, 19 February 2003 06:30 (twenty-three years ago)

yeah sometimes he brings the straight random rap shit like 'ok yall in closing be sure to peep the jadakiss track on the new dj clue its off the heazy fo sheazy hyuck hyuck' like what the fuck man!!

s trife (simon_tr), Wednesday, 19 February 2003 06:32 (twenty-three years ago)

anyway wasnt diary of a sinner reviewed in the wire a couple months before raise up got big

s trife (simon_tr), Wednesday, 19 February 2003 06:35 (twenty-three years ago)

maybe, although I tell you he was pushing it in like april of 2001 (and it wasn't from reading the wire). I can just about guarantee you though gordon would be better for the job than whoever they do get. I can't imagine y'all would actually clash either, it's not like he knows enough about rap to say 'no, we're not gonna cover them'. flagpole ain't the source. if it somehow ends up being matt thompson (very doubtful) you can give up right now - I actually heard him make the 'rap music - more like crap music haha' joke once (ballard wasn't much better). did they fuck with your tatu review any?

James Blount (James Blount), Wednesday, 19 February 2003 06:46 (twenty-three years ago)

nah just a little not enough to bother me, i got a few more unpublished that are weirder so lets see, i dunno how does this fare for my flagpole takeover!! all i wanted was to talk about linkin park and 50 cent : ( blount what should i do!!!

s trife (simon_tr), Wednesday, 19 February 2003 06:51 (twenty-three years ago)

they have a very hard time with weird stuff, trust me. they also don't seem to be running as many record reviews and they have too many reviewers. they're also clearly pretty clueless about what to run when - shouldn't that peaches review have ran like two years ago? if you do a feature that's tied to a show it's getting in for sure, but then you're stuck writing about stuff that comes to athens. my advice would be to write about whatever 'big name' indierock act comes to town and then cut them apart. be funny doing it also - because these people (and especially their fans) have no sense of humor. otherwise wait for the uga day of soul, the one time a year you'll get to right about a hip-hop act (besides local ones - although you should write about them also, flagpole needs to run a local hip-hop story for once that doesn't treat it like some alien culture - 'where's the guitars? haw haw!' or pretend they're 'just as good' as anyone else).

James Blount (James Blount), Wednesday, 19 February 2003 07:04 (twenty-three years ago)

yeah for real at least this year i can go to the big uga rap shows, last year i was cruelly kept from luda/112, flagpole is seriously out of it, i cant believe theyll cover all this worthless local bullshit but not big releases everybody cares about, all their athens rap coverage is clueless too, if i read one more wack ass thing about how mr medicore mc 'isnt like his mainstream bling bling counterparts' like yeah dude your shitty wannabe pac rhymes are 'soulful' yuck!! haha man this ilx stuff is still addictive, thanks for the advice though dude, for real blount email me we should totally go do something again sometime!!

s trife (simon_tr), Wednesday, 19 February 2003 07:16 (twenty-three years ago)

I was wondering if you were ever going to make (at least sorta) straight tapes again. I mean, I don't have anything at all against Korn, Moby and Len, but... you know.

Dan I., Wednesday, 19 February 2003 07:25 (twenty-three years ago)

I forgot the compliment I intended to stick in there. This is a good tape! thanks.

Dan I., Wednesday, 19 February 2003 07:38 (twenty-three years ago)

I would love it if you made me this tape or a tape in this style! I would trade for whatever you wanted, you can even have more Manix Street Preachers and Lightning Seeds if you wanted.

felicity (felicity), Thursday, 20 February 2003 01:18 (twenty-three years ago)

Ethan, give me this tape when I send you my mix CD / comix care package, and I will be your baby 4evah. (Note: my mix CD pour vous is still in the planning stage, as I'm trying to make it Dave-like in the least offensive manner possible.)

David R. (popshots75`), Thursday, 20 February 2003 03:38 (twenty-three years ago)

dave i will make you your own damn tape!! ohh the uniqueness!!!

s trife (simon_tr), Thursday, 20 February 2003 04:20 (twenty-three years ago)

s trife (simon_tr), Thursday, 20 February 2003 05:03 (twenty-three years ago)

westside connection. it reminds me of bay area pool parties where i would try to sneak in stuff like ODB and everybody would get mad. my 36 Chambers jewel case is cracked because of incidents like this.

Honda (Honda), Thursday, 20 February 2003 06:00 (twenty-three years ago)
