I thought that was the whole fucking point.

Hmmm... I heard Bush on the radio yesterday saying that he will not allow the recent war protests to affect policy in any way. He said something to the effect of... "If we ever allow protests to affect policy... well, that's like basing our policies on a focus group."

Sarah McLUsky (coco), Wednesday, 19 February 2003 14:30 (twenty-three years ago)

I would like to reiterate that everyone should ignore Bush because he is a fucking moron.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 19 February 2003 14:31 (twenty-three years ago)

He may or may not be a moron but are you saying it's smarter to pretend he (or his policies) don't exist? I'm confused.

dan fitz (danfitz), Wednesday, 19 February 2003 15:14 (twenty-three years ago)

Bush is a mouthpiece, not a leader. He should be ignored and we should be paying attention to what his Cabinet and VP are doing.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 19 February 2003 15:19 (twenty-three years ago)

It'll be hard for Iraqis to ignore Bush once the bombs start falling.

Headline from this morning's paper: "Bush says he won't let protests change his mind"
if there's anyone who has a track record for ignoring the will of the people, it's unelected George

Horace Mann (Horace Mann), Wednesday, 19 February 2003 15:21 (twenty-three years ago)

It helps to have a MIND to CHANGE obv.

Dan, Harvard question: how stupid can a rich WASP be and still get in there because of legacies etc? My mom thinks he must be smart if he went there, sigh.

Dubya's a Yalie.

hstencil, Wednesday, 19 February 2003 15:25 (twenty-three years ago)

Well, mouthpiece or not, the head of state is still the guy who addresses the country and affects to a large degree the mood of the country as well. I also think it's foolish to assume that Bush is just a mere puppet or robot--his familial ties and background certainly suggest otherwise.

DO YOU SEE!! (mark s), Wednesday, 19 February 2003 15:29 (twenty-three years ago)

I wish people would shut up about the "unelected George" thing. The popular vote is meaningless; the elctoral vote is all that matters and quite frankly, if Gore couldn't carry Tennessee and Arkansas (his "home states") he wasn't going to win the election anyway. Those griping that Nader leached Gore's support have more legitimate gripes than those still complaining about how messed up and crooked the Florida vote was, IMO. It's done, it's over with, deal with the problem NOW (namely, our President is a screaming moron whom I doubt could handle the vagaries of long division, let alone foreign and national policy; how can we the American people contain him so that his idiocy doesn't harm us?).

Bush went to Harvard for grad school. At the time he went to Yale, my understanding is it had a REALLY bad reputation as the Ivy League school you went to if your parents were rich and you were really, really stupid. (My understanding is that it wasn't until the late 70s that Yale became known as center of good academics.) By the time he was applying to grad school, he was a white man who already had one Ivy League degree with a shitload of money and a fairly powerful father unafraid to use connections to help out himself or his family; how hard do YOU think it was for him to get in?

Who controls the British crown?
Who keeps the metric system down?
We do! We do!
Who keeps Atlantis off the maps?
Who keeps the Martians under wraps?
We do! We do!
Who holds back the electric car?
Who makes Steve Guttenberg, a star?
We do! We do!
Who robs cave fish of their sight?
Who rigs every Oscar night?
We do! We do!

(Dan: I understand exactly where you're coming from. My "Bush is an idiot, ignore him" stance is largely a coping mechanism that allows me to sleep through the night without screaming night terrors.)

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 19 February 2003 15:37 (twenty-three years ago)

i just found a site which argues that the stonecutters episode is a. serious and disturbing propaganda and b. evidence that matt groening is a mason (and a satanist)

the fact that ppl are announcing "we won't let these marches affect our actions" is not in fact in any way proof that that the marches are NOT affecting their actions

mark s (mark s), Wednesday, 19 February 2003 15:39 (twenty-three years ago)

CIA Man, fucking CIA Man.

hstencil, Wednesday, 19 February 2003 15:42 (twenty-three years ago)

Some of the stupidest people I have ever met were people I met at Harvard Law School. The Business School had an even worse reputation.

Colin Meeder (Mert), Wednesday, 19 February 2003 15:43 (twenty-three years ago)

But the K-school has the WORST reputation!

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 19 February 2003 15:44 (twenty-three years ago)
