At three a.m. this morning, Regina was the coldest place in the world. -38 C, before windchill, which made -50-some C
did we close schools? no. did we call in the army? no.
life goes on, because we are hardy folk.

But Horace, it's a dry cold.

Actually, it's not. Regina is built on an underground lake ('s why the land is so arable), so the humidity's around 90%. Foggy as hell.

good lord, your testicles must be like peanuts

stevem (blueski), Monday, 24 February 2003 18:22 (twenty-three years ago)

Salted and dipped in honey?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 24 February 2003 18:23 (twenty-three years ago)

dang, beat me to it by a millisecond

yes, salted.
that's what you mean, right?

Horace Mann (Horace Mann), Monday, 24 February 2003 18:24 (twenty-three years ago)

I never could get that bag open

That's strange. When I lived in Regina in the winter it wasn't too bad. The humidity here in Winnipeg is only 47%, so -35 doesn't feel too bad. You get mad respect Horace for living in a place so derided (that secretly is a bit of a gem).

Bryan (Bryan), Monday, 24 February 2003 18:33 (twenty-three years ago)

oh yeah, VERY secretly, even to ourselves.

Horace Mann (Horace Mann), Monday, 24 February 2003 18:39 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh come on! Regina's great!

I stayed one night in a little town called White River en route from Sault Ste. Marie to Thunder Bay. There was a large mock-up of a thremometer in the middle of the town with a sign saying that White River was the coldest place in Canada...apparently it sometimes got as cold as -72°! I wondered whether perhaps there were a number of towns making this claim.

A couple of hundred yards from somewhere I used to live was a place which - locals claimed - was the coldest place in the universe. They had some machine which reduced its internal temperatures to within a whisker of absolute zero.

Tim (Tim), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 10:45 (twenty-three years ago)

Where is Regina?

Mary (Mary), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 10:48 (twenty-three years ago)

B-b-but the coldest place on earth is sure The Pole Of Cold!!!!!

Pete (Pete), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 13:03 (twenty-three years ago)

Everyone knows that the coldest place on earth is any British train station, during any delay longer than an hour.

Archel (Archel), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 13:09 (twenty-three years ago)

(The windiest place on earth is Swindon Shopping Centre, built as a perfect wind tunnel it can whip a zephyr of 5mph up into a force 9 gale).

Pete (Pete), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 13:13 (twenty-three years ago)

If you're in Swindon shopping centre you deserve everything you get.
