I break my ILE fast to bring you HOW TO PLAIT YOUR HAIR LIKE LEGOLAS

Madchen (Madchen), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 14:08 (twenty-three years ago)

i like "a different angle - a different person"

mark s (mark s), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 14:10 (twenty-three years ago)

Yay!!! Madchen feast!!!

Lara (Lara), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 14:10 (twenty-three years ago)

Ewww. I've just had a look and now remember why I stopped plaiting my hair when I was, like, fourteen.

Lara (Lara), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 14:12 (twenty-three years ago)

Alopecia?

SittingPretty (sittingpretty), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 14:19 (twenty-three years ago)

ooh...the legolas ones are ugly (and not new inventions either), but the ones with buns and strands winding around and all make me wish my hair wasn't really short...and there's some with ribbons!

Maria (Maria), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 14:23 (twenty-three years ago)

damn. missed the spot to say "bless you" to sittingpretty

Alan (Alan), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 14:24 (twenty-three years ago)

Alopecia?

I beg your pardon??? Tsk. I have very long hair with no bald patches.

Lara (Lara), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 14:25 (twenty-three years ago)

Sorry. Was just hazarding guesses why you stopped plaiting your hair. I decided of course to omit the obvious "because I fucking hated it" answer.

SittingPretty (sittingpretty), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 14:30 (twenty-three years ago)

I sometimes plait my hair (one single braid at the back) to keep it out of my face if I can't find a bobbin. This is plaiting through necessity rather than design though.

Lara (Lara), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 14:35 (twenty-three years ago)

GREBT STUFF!

Hahaha big poncey elf.

Sarah (starry), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 14:37 (twenty-three years ago)

A bobbin? You mean one of those whacking great things they used to wind cotton round in the industrial revolution? Does this not hamper efforts to walk upright?

SittingPretty (sittingpretty), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 14:39 (twenty-three years ago)

Hair bobbin (i.e. one of those elastic things used for pony tails etc.). Is it an Irishism? Or a Byrneism?

Lara (Lara), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 14:41 (twenty-three years ago)

elves, bah.

gnomes are where it's at, yo.

g-kit (g-kit), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 14:41 (twenty-three years ago)

They were bunchy bands in my house.

Madchen (Madchen), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 14:51 (twenty-three years ago)

Pony-tail holders. Scrunchies.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 14:52 (twenty-three years ago)

mark s (mark s), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 14:52 (twenty-three years ago)

Ah - Sarah's version I understand. If that's a bobbin, what the hell is a gubbin?

SittingPretty (sittingpretty), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 14:53 (twenty-three years ago)

gnomes! not trolls! bah.

g-kit (g-kit), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 14:54 (twenty-three years ago)

Madchen's family is weirder than mine. It's official.

Scrunches are big, em, 'scrunchy' things. Not at all what I was talking about. Used to wear them though. I had a green velvet one. For shame!

Lara (Lara), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 14:55 (twenty-three years ago)

Are you talking about very small bands of coloured elastic? I think my sister used to wear those.

SittingPretty (sittingpretty), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 14:56 (twenty-three years ago)

Yes! But I have long hair so I still need them.

A gubbin is a doohickey.

Lara (Lara), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 14:57 (twenty-three years ago)

Ah! and Ah! respectively.

SittingPretty (sittingpretty), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 14:59 (twenty-three years ago)

http://www.duncancumming.co.uk/photos.cfm?photo=1263

Nice chewing gum. These are all over Glasgow's pavements. Nobody knows where they come from (cue spooky music).

Madchen (Madchen), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 15:06 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh god, you can tell I haven't done this for a while. Wrong thread...

Madchen (Madchen), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 15:06 (twenty-three years ago)

The small ones are called 'hairbands'. The big ones are 'scrunchies'. But, as with most things that I regularly lose, I find a hand gesture suffices. As in: 'Have you seen my thingy, you know the [insert gesture]?' This is not just because Matt doesn't know the difference between a kirby grip and an alice band.

Archel (Archel), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 15:08 (twenty-three years ago)

"Hi, I'm Kirby Grip, you may remember me from such films as..."

mark s (mark s), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 15:11 (twenty-three years ago)

"....'Hair? Classic or dud?' or 'Hairdressing acoutrements - Search and Destroy'"

Not as good as "Lead Paint: Delicious but deadly", but the best I could do at short notice.

SittingPretty (sittingpretty), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 15:14 (twenty-three years ago)

You see, to me, a hairband is a stiff, arced piece of material worn to keep hair off the face.

Lara (Lara), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 15:15 (twenty-three years ago)

I would have been a hairband, but I couldn't be arced.

Ba-da-bam. And indeed, Tsssshhhhh.

SittingPretty (sittingpretty), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 15:17 (twenty-three years ago)

Banana and bulldog clips, remember them?

Lara (Lara), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 15:19 (twenty-three years ago)

Only on my sister.

SittingPretty (sittingpretty), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 15:21 (twenty-three years ago)

You make her sound like a lab rat!!

Lara (Lara), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 15:25 (twenty-three years ago)

You should have seen her face pressed up against that wire. I felt so sorry for her.

Um, rather that I have never had long hair.

SittingPretty (sittingpretty), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 15:28 (twenty-three years ago)

Hairbands to me are plastic alice bands. Alice bands are hairbands made from cloth. Puffy alice bands are only worn by the sort of people who wear pearls and own chocolate labs.

Madchen (Madchen), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 15:33 (twenty-three years ago)

Yes! That was the sort of lab my sister was in. Made entirely of chocolate. Apart from the wire, that is.

SittingPretty (sittingpretty), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 15:34 (twenty-three years ago)

Hey Madchen to me it was the other way round, the plastic ones are alice bands, the material ones were just hairbands.

Hair BOBBLES are the things that you do ponytails and such with (not pony trails).

Sarah (starry), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 15:38 (twenty-three years ago)

Right, the thing I have not got is why they make those stupid hair bobbles with two loops of elastic and two plastic balls which you're supposed to wrap around your hair and loop over each other. Is it me, or are they the hardest thing to put in? And do you just give up and put it in like a normal bobble?

Madchen (Madchen), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 15:42 (twenty-three years ago)

Does R*y Ch*bby Br*wn wear who-the-fuck-is-alice bands?

SittingPretty (sittingpretty), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 15:44 (twenty-three years ago)

Completely impossible to work with or, more aptly, against. I bought a lovely one of these with red flowers set in the plastic balls in Oasis a while back but I cannot get it to hold my hair in place properly. It either falls out or scalps me!

Lara (Lara), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 15:47 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh I thought those things with the plastic bits were just for swinging at unwanted admirers in nightclubs, blinding them for life. Or possibly sex toys. My hair lives a simple but happy life in a pretty much undisturbed primitive state anyway, so I guess I don't need all these different words/items. It's a band, it goes in hair, it's a hairband.

Archel (Archel), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 16:01 (twenty-three years ago)

They're boys, they're in a zone, theyre Boyzone. Yeah, that works.

SittingPretty (sittingpretty), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 16:13 (twenty-three years ago)

It's a bobbin. Cos that's what my Mum calls it. I put it in my hair - it's a hair bobbin!

I am running off to have a haircut now. This thread has inspired me. If it all goes to plan I will have no need for bobbins, bands, grips, clips or bunchy bands any more!

Lara (Lara), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 16:16 (twenty-three years ago)

We really need to get everyone to try this and then have an Elvish Impersonator competition.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 16:17 (twenty-three years ago)

My friend at work Lisa suggested that, since my mom was so taken with Mr. Bloom as Legolas, my dad should dress up like him as a surprise one night. I had to point out this notion was misguided.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 16:18 (twenty-three years ago)

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 16:19 (twenty-three years ago)

Did Lisa assume that the whole family has Nedlocks?

Colin Meeder (Mert), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 16:20 (twenty-three years ago)

Good luck with the haircut, Lara.... oh, you've gone.

SittingPretty (sittingpretty), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 16:21 (twenty-three years ago)

Did Lisa assume that the whole family has Nedlocks?

No, she just wanted him to wear a wig.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 16:25 (twenty-three years ago)

I am shorn!

Lara (Lara), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 20:54 (twenty-three years ago)

You're bald?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 20:55 (twenty-three years ago)

I've certainly got a lot less hair than I did a few hours ago. My ears are cold.

Lara (Lara), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 20:56 (twenty-three years ago)

Back before the ruthless #1 cut several years ago, I had my hair in a plait most of the time (except when my wife couldn't be bothered, when I just pulled it back in a ponytail). Tied up with an elastic band.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 21:16 (twenty-three years ago)

I can't stop singing "Nedlock Holiday" now, damn you!

C J (C J), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 21:32 (twenty-three years ago)

The Nediverse again infiltrates YOUR MIND.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 22:25 (twenty-three years ago)

I should do something with my hair, but braiding is not the answer. I have a feeling the Keebler elf would try to court me and I'd have to let him down, and I just don't have the time nor the energy for romantic intrigue.

Nicole (Nicole), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 22:26 (twenty-three years ago)

Just the one elf? I thought there were scads of them in that damn tree.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 22:28 (twenty-three years ago)

Nediverse = part of a Nedisong, obv

C J (C J), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 22:30 (twenty-three years ago)

And it's a mystic song, it is.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 25 February 2003 23:25 (twenty-three years ago)

So what does your hair look like now, Lara? Are you happy with it?

SittingPretty (sittingpretty), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 10:24 (twenty-three years ago)

I want to see a photie!

Madchen (Madchen), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 12:23 (twenty-three years ago)

Hats are back in vogue, right?

My hair is mank - I am devastated. It could almost be described as short and my face now looks like a pudding.

Lara (Lara), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 13:39 (twenty-three years ago)

i'm not wearing a hat today, so i guess they're out.
me = fashion guru, after all.

g-kit (g-kit), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 13:57 (twenty-three years ago)

Shite.

Lara (Lara), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 14:30 (twenty-three years ago)

bobble is definately the word, even when it's just a bit of elastic with a metal bit holding it together, without an actual "bobble" per se (ie the rub plastic balls thingummies mentioned above)...

lara, i bet your hair isn't as short as mrs carsmile's, it is grade 5 all over. she says she looks like stevo from jackass. this made me laugh...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 14:36 (twenty-three years ago)

also matt dc beat me to the elvish joke, mine was going to be "elvish has left the building"...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 14:37 (twenty-three years ago)

nine months pass...
Revive, since Return of the King comes out next week.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Wednesday, 10 December 2003 14:14 (twenty-two years ago)

Not that I'm counting the hours or anything. *watches clock obsessively*

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 10 December 2003 14:16 (twenty-two years ago)

It's all you talk about -- you're worse than Gollum!

Sadly my resemblance to a Keebler elve grows stronger every day.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Wednesday, 10 December 2003 14:19 (twenty-two years ago)

It's all you talk about -- you're worse than Gollum!

Mmm, precious.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 10 December 2003 14:22 (twenty-two years ago)
