classic on Super Mario, Rik from the Young Ones and cute kids under 5, pretty much dud anywhere else tho surely. there was a point during the rave era in the UK where they were something of a fashion statement tho, oh the folly!

you mean Overalls?

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 00:21 (twenty-three years ago)

i thought dungarees was just an old-fashioned way to say 'jeans'

That Girl (thatgirl), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 00:21 (twenty-three years ago)

i think there's a difference between dungarees and overalls but i'm not sure what - maybe you only call them dungarees if they're worn by little people?

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 00:22 (twenty-three years ago)

Dexy's!!!

Also pre-schoolers, painters, plumbers, electricians, council workers etc

dungarees/overalls on girls = generally HOTT (depends on girl)

i've been a dungarees addict since childhood, and the right shape on a grown woman is comfy, flattering and sexy - the perfect garment! (tho ignore that if you only wear heels and have no tomboy tendencies.) if you live in london, the places to go are rokit (camden, brick lane) and beyond retro warehouse (off brick lane, nr shoreditch tube), or try bootsales.

jeanne picot (jeanne picot), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 11:46 (twenty-three years ago)

Right! Name me a good boot sale in London and I'm there! :)

(Please, I'm desperate!)

Sarah (starry), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 11:54 (twenty-three years ago)

best bootsale i know of = nr kilburn park tube, in st. augustines school, saturdays, 11 to 3ish. there's good one on sundays in kensal rise, saturdays and sundays in the nags head area on holloway road, and a tiny but good one near the independence pub on upper street on sundays. i've heard the sunday one near blackhorse road tube (around the huge walthamstow town hall thingy) is really good but i haven't gotten round to going yet.

bootsales = my fave thing in whole world!

jeanne picot (jeanne picot), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 12:01 (twenty-three years ago)

That one in Kilburn is a corker, some good cds always crop up in amongst the tat.

I went past the town hall (Walthamstow) on Sunday and there was no sign of a bootdsale whatsoever? Whereabouts is it supposed to be?

chris (chris), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 12:25 (twenty-three years ago)

I might give that Kilburn one a go... there seems to be a lack of resources to find out about car boot sales. Perhaps I'll start a seperate thread?

Sarah (starry), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 12:27 (twenty-three years ago)

yay, sarah!

there is a carbootsale magazine. sadly you can only seem to get it at...carbootsales!

Circa 1991 I could be seen sporting a pair of dungaree shorts that I wore low on the hip with the bib part hanging down, teamed with green suede Champion trainers and a Joe Bloggs T-Shirt.

Salopettes are even worse than dungarees because the rustle.

Madchen (Madchen), Wednesday, 26 February 2003 13:21 (twenty-three years ago)

The Walthamstow giant boot sale was great (good weather - it started after Easter, stopped somewhere like September) except I'm not sure if they're reviving it this year or not.

Someone find and post a picture of Hillbilly Jim!
