Super vs. Super: An Ethical Quandry.

Right, so in our last chapter (MOVING HOUSE: How Can I Feel Better about it?), you'll remember that I had a few minor misgivings about my wife & I's new apartment. As it happens, it turns out that two of the three electrical sockets in the master bedroom are controlled by the light switch which powers the overhead lamp....rendering them "cold" when the switch is turned off (if you have a digital clock plugged into it, and someone throws the switch in the 'off' position, the clock loses power, in other words). Not ideal.

The Super in my old building -- we'll call him "Ron" -- is also a reasonably savvy electrician, and volunteered to fix the problem, which was dang swell of him. So, I happily took him up on the offer (I'm also giving him a filing cabinet and an easy chair from the old place, so it's kind of a good exchange of goods and services.) So, he comes in today into the lobby, and meets my new building's super -- we'll call him "Jon" -- and I awkwardly introduce the two: "Super meet Super, Ron meet Jon," not really knowing what else to say. Ron engages Jon in quick bit of Super-related banter, and then off we go to work on the light problem.

My question is this: Should I be concerned that my new Super, Jon, is going to feel slighted, snubbed or passed over because I didn't ask HIM to deal with the problem? I know it sounds ridiculous, but I worry about this stuff. In addition to the filing cabinet and easy chair, I'm going to give a few bucks to Ron for helping me, but should I be concerned? Did I break some unspoken code by bringing in an outsider to help deal with the problem?

Do tell....
