...with my new guitar. What inanimate possesions do you have that you just simply love and couldn't possibly live without?

ali (ali), Sunday, 16 March 2003 12:14 (twenty-three years ago)

My 40,000,000 gold Krügerrands, of course. No? Well, okay. I really like my (not very expensive) automatic, self-winding diver's wrist watch. Wish it were a Rolex--it's not--but I love that you don't have to wind it--as long as you wear it. I know this is ancient technology but it makes me smile.

Skottie, Sunday, 16 March 2003 12:33 (twenty-three years ago)

I used to feel this way about guitars, but ever since I murdered the one I loved by throwing it down a stairwell (OK dropping it while drunk) and had to buy another one, I really like getting new ones now, the more different they are from the other ones the better. Thrill of renewal and rediscovery and all that. To answer the question tho, the one thing I have grown 'unhealthily' attached to is my Tascam. Which I'm also running into the ground these days, so...

Oh, I'm in love again. I'm listening to the greatest hits of The Teardrop Explodes and I've decided that Saint Julian Cope is MY DREAM MAN!!! And now I must time-travel back to Liverpool circa 1981 because he's all scary now but the way he was then is my new crush. We could listen to krautrock and watch Time Team together. I want a sheepskin jacket. Sigh. Swoon. Etc.

kate (suzy), Sunday, 16 March 2003 14:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Julian Cope would be crap to watch Time Team with, though - he'd keep wittering on about how the archaeologists aren't respecting the sacred energies and all that bobbins.

caitlin (caitlin), Sunday, 16 March 2003 14:57 (twenty-three years ago)

But that's why he'd be so GRATE!!!

Well, so we aren't going on tour, and we couldn't even get a "no" answer off a freaking tour manager, we've just been kept hanging on all weekend, and now even if we GET a yes, it's too late to schedule a rehearsal anyway, and I'm fucked off and pissed off, and this has basically RUINED my entire weekend but hey, the one good thing about it is that at least I get to watch Time Team.

kate (suzy), Sunday, 16 March 2003 14:58 (twenty-three years ago)

Sometimes when I am very hungry and food comes, I get a little crush on my food.

felicity (felicity), Sunday, 16 March 2003 17:35 (twenty-three years ago)

I have a new hardbound edition of the Tale of Genji that I quite love. It is in two volumes and includes many small illustrations taken from japanese prints, and comes in a box. I have been keeping it away from home so I don't get distracted from my studies and just read it all the time.

webcrack (music=crack), Sunday, 16 March 2003 20:01 (twenty-three years ago)

I love all my stuff. My Ikea desk, my Yamaha RS7000, my Carhart jeans, my Tevas, my Sony TV, etcetera. But it's a tough love. I expect shit to work properly and hold up to some abuse. For instance just the other day I accidentally put the TV remote in the washing machine with my bedsheets and laundered it. I took it apart and tried to dry it and it didn't work, which made my whole life seem like a hopeless farce for a little while. Then I woke up the next day and dug it out of the trash on a desperate whim, put some new batteries in it and it worked again. TV remote, I may have taken you for granted before, but my compassion is now sincere. I promise to stay in touch, even when I move to the big city and become a star, you'll always be invited to the parties, and even when I'm having mad sex with hot actresses, I'll be thinking of you.

Millar (Millar), Sunday, 16 March 2003 20:13 (twenty-three years ago)

Wait, talk more about that mad sex with hot actresses bit...

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Sunday, 16 March 2003 20:17 (twenty-three years ago)

hah hah!!! !

Kim (Kim), Sunday, 16 March 2003 20:25 (twenty-three years ago)

I have fallen in love with the weather. Its 13 degrees out, this is great, we skipped spring and are going straight into summer.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Sunday, 16 March 2003 20:31 (twenty-three years ago)

To tell the truth I think mad sex with hot actresses is so talked-up already that it's bound to be disappointing, like The Phantom Menace, or a sophomore album. I mean porking Julia Stiles in the bunghole sounds TOTALLY AWESOME but I can just see myself being rather bored after the first thirty seconds or so, the same sort of feeling you get after arriving at some fantastic landmark - wow, mount rushmore/julia stiles' ass with my dick in it, hmm, that's nice but I'm ready for a smoke - and thus, by virtue of being so hyped, is BY DEFAULT not nearly as cool as it should be.

Millar (Millar), Sunday, 16 March 2003 20:36 (twenty-three years ago)

i used to be in love with my car, but i decided she is too untrustworthy. now i just love my guitar (her name is "wendy carlos") and my t rex records.

di smith (lucylurex), Sunday, 16 March 2003 21:06 (twenty-three years ago)

i used to be in love with my car

This should be the sequel to that one Queen song.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 16 March 2003 21:10 (twenty-three years ago)

Getting robbed put loving objects into perspective. I would be sad if my guitars or my music collection was taken, though, or various sentimental things from my folks. But generally they're just things and thoughts in your head are very nice even without the things.

(I sound so zen and immaterialistic and it's not the case; I just bought a pair of Gucci boots so I must assure you I'm horrible.)

teeny (teeny), Sunday, 16 March 2003 21:45 (twenty-three years ago)

the sunshine! it came out today!

also my outfit for prom with the pointy shoes and lacy shawl and red and black satin, i'm so in love with it now. also black satin. also my piano sheet music (i'd miss my guitar and the piano itself, but not as much as the sheet music!). also my books.

Maria (Maria), Sunday, 16 March 2003 21:55 (twenty-three years ago)

I have officially fallin in love with my steak rub. It tastes good. So good I may rub it on my nips.

Chris V. (Chris V), Sunday, 16 March 2003 22:15 (twenty-three years ago)

At the moment, my trusty early-70s era Telecaster guitar. Haven't played it in awhile since I'd been favoring the Jazzmaster lately, but for whatever reason it's been wonderful playing it the past couple of months.

It's also the guitar I've had the longest. Almost 20 years now.

Chris Barrus (xibalba), Sunday, 16 March 2003 23:30 (twenty-three years ago)

When I've got a new pair of high-heeled shoes I become almost fetishistic over them.

j.lu (j.lu), Monday, 17 March 2003 00:54 (twenty-three years ago)

geeta (geeta), Monday, 17 March 2003 06:34 (twenty-three years ago)

oh, are they everywhere in the world?

di smith (lucylurex), Monday, 17 March 2003 06:45 (twenty-three years ago)

if i had a self-winding watch i would catch myself shaking my wrist compulsively JUST IN CASE its not getting enough self-winding in. This would slowly drive me insane.

that's how they work though, right?

gabriel (gabe), Monday, 17 March 2003 08:02 (twenty-three years ago)

How did you get a Now comp, Geeta? Were you at Guinea Pig last night? I can't wait to listen to my NOW that's what I can experimental music!

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Monday, 17 March 2003 10:35 (twenty-three years ago)

I love my SG-X guitar, Louise, but I still hold a place in my heart for my old Lotus guitar, Soma.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Monday, 17 March 2003 14:33 (twenty-three years ago)

fed up with falling in love. when's someone gonna fall in love with me back? :-(

*sad and sympathetic* Should this become the official ILE motto?

j.lu (j.lu), Monday, 17 March 2003 14:37 (twenty-three years ago)

I think I love my music collection and computer. Oh, and my drum set.

A Nairn (moretap), Monday, 17 March 2003 14:56 (twenty-three years ago)

I think if I have to sit and stare at my music collection and computer for much longer I will torch the lot of it. I want another human being to share them with... :-(

Marcello Carlin, Monday, 17 March 2003 15:06 (twenty-three years ago)
