You could go the Latin Quarter and look at where Carlos the Jackal stayed. You could have coffee at the cafe where Jack Kerouac hung out. You could hang out in front of Serge Gainsborough's house. I love Paris. Never could be bored in Paris.

Is Chez George still around? Good times.

The Batofar ! batofar.org

The Divan du Monde ? Les Instants Chavires (in the suburb of Montreuil).

Buy a Pariscope from a kiosk, the back page has a TimeOut section w/info on stuff to do.

There's a gaysexclub off rue st.denis in the 1er that has a huge model X-Wing & Tie Fighter hanging outside the entrance. [note: i've never been inside...]

But if thats not your cup of tea, there's a bar called Pop-In on 105 rue amelot in the 11th, sort of near the Bastille - a bit tricky to find. Anyways, a few rooms, a dancefloor, and usually pretty good music. indie'ish and whatever. Though its usually only busy on weekends. Baxendale once dj'ed there!

The Batofar is good times. Alternately you could just walk around with a bottle of wine, which is what most nights I was there and couldn't afford to hit the nice bars/clubs/restos.

slutsky (slutsky), Monday, 17 March 2003 03:50 (twenty-three years ago)

there's some good bars round Pigalle. I'm trying to remeber the name of the one we hung out in and chatted to some obnoxious cast members of stomp in when we were there last time but a good bar none the less.

You could go for vietnamese food down in clichy, some of the best I've had and cheap too.

How could you be bored?!?!? You must live somewhere very exotic. I really enjoyed people-watching in Paris.

Sarah McLUsky (coco), Monday, 17 March 2003 13:58 (twenty-three years ago)

perhaps kyle should try waterskiing down the seine whilst juggling chainsaws or something.

Ed (dali), Monday, 17 March 2003 14:02 (twenty-three years ago)

Oho, what serendipity. For lo! I and Robster will be (hopefully not bored) in Paris at the end of next month, and would very much appreciate tips on cool stuff to see and do. I know Paris slightly and will also be pumping my sister (who has lived there for brief periods) for information. Are there any cast-iron indie/soul regular club nights? A bit much to ask, but hey.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Monday, 17 March 2003 14:07 (twenty-three years ago)

p.s. travel insurance premium supplement for chainsaw-juggling activities may be excessive.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Monday, 17 March 2003 14:10 (twenty-three years ago)

I don't see it explicitly prohibited in the small print.

Ed (dali), Monday, 17 March 2003 14:11 (twenty-three years ago)

hmmm...
Does this work??

Sarah McLUsky (coco), Monday, 17 March 2003 14:15 (twenty-three years ago)

The answer is yes, but it takes forever. Anyway, here are some ILX links:

Sarah McLUsky (coco), Monday, 17 March 2003 14:20 (twenty-three years ago)

Blimey, that one I sterted feels like a hella lot longer than a year ago. It was fantastic in Paris then.

chris (chris), Monday, 17 March 2003 14:34 (twenty-three years ago)

Crikey, a mentalist world of information at one's fingertips. Will have a browse through that lot at some point. Ta v much, Sarah.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Monday, 17 March 2003 14:40 (twenty-three years ago)

Should I not pack my chainsaws then?

robster (robster), Monday, 17 March 2003 14:43 (twenty-three years ago)

No, darling, of _course_ you can bring your chainsaws, but I will be disassociating myself from you as we pass through Customs, and will be taking custody of the hotel details.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Monday, 17 March 2003 15:08 (twenty-three years ago)

Hey I'm bored and in Worcester Massachusetts the Mecca of all things interesting and exciting. I could think of worse places to be bored in than Paris.

Chris V. (Chris V), Monday, 17 March 2003 15:14 (twenty-three years ago)

That's the title of a song by Ultrababyfat. Good one too ... perhaps listening to it would help cure the boredom.

zaxxon25 (zaxxon25), Monday, 17 March 2003 15:48 (twenty-three years ago)

TS: "paris" vs "penis"

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 17 March 2003 15:52 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm less bored now. batofar sounds like it; we're on our honeymoon. do not ask how this translates into boredom, it is a long and uninteresting story.

kyle, Monday, 17 March 2003 20:57 (twenty-three years ago)

I want to hear it anyway!

Sarah McLusky (coco), Monday, 17 March 2003 20:57 (twenty-three years ago)

"Well that goes in there, and that goes in there, and that goes in there, and that goes in there... and then it's over."

Jarvis Cocker (Dan Perry), Monday, 17 March 2003 20:58 (twenty-three years ago)

basically lack of preparation and getting kind of burned out going on holiday immediately the day after the wedding, so we've been jetlagged and tired and for some reason wind up with energy on a monday night, when nothing in paris is open. we're in our second week here though and it's only been the nightlife thats left us a bit bewildered (that and these horrible short pants everyone is wearing). goddamed french keyboards have all the letters in the zrong places too. but yes on the whole, it's been lovely! in london for tzo days end of the week ad then back to san francisco and our cats.

kyle, Monday, 17 March 2003 21:04 (twenty-three years ago)

I read it 3 times as bored in the pants... in some ways that distills my condition.

Sean (Sean), Monday, 17 March 2003 23:09 (twenty-three years ago)

french keyboards have letters in "zerong" place = chuckle.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Monday, 17 March 2003 23:11 (twenty-three years ago)

you slay me, spencer!! haha

oh, i remember going to DISCO INFERNO at "Le Queen" on the Champs Elysees a few times. It's supposed to be a gay club, obviously, but they are tons of girls and tourists... It's really fun in a sort of cheesy way, you know, but hey, its Monday night and its open. But then again, this was 2000, so I dunno if its still going on...
